Verse:001
Abdul Daryabadi : By the night when it envelops,
Dr. Mohsin : By the night as it envelops;
Mufti Taqi Usmani : I swear by the night when it covers (the sun),
Pickthal : By the night enshrouding
Yusuf Ali : By the Night as it conceals (the light);


Verse:002
Abdul Daryabadi : by the day when it appears in glory,
Dr. Mohsin : By the day as it appears in brightness;
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And by the day when it unveils itself,
Pickthal : And the day resplendent
Yusuf Ali : By the Day as it appears in glory;


Verse:003
Abdul Daryabadi : by Him who has created the male and the female,
Dr. Mohsin : By Him Who created male and female;
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And by the One who created the male and the female,
Pickthal : And Him Who hath created male and female,
Yusuf Ali : By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female―


Verse:004
Abdul Daryabadi : verily your endeavours are diverse.
Dr. Mohsin : Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes);
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Your efforts are diverse:
Pickthal : Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends).
Yusuf Ali : Verily (the ends) ye strive for are diverse.


Verse:005
Abdul Daryabadi : Then as for him who gives and fears Him,
Dr. Mohsin : As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allâh and fears Him,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : As for the one who gives (in charity) and fears Allah,
Pickthal : As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah)
Yusuf Ali : So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah),


Verse:006
Abdul Daryabadi : and testifies to the Good,
Dr. Mohsin : And believes in Al-Husna.[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And believes in the best (religion),
Pickthal : And believeth in goodness;
Yusuf Ali : And (in all sincerity) testifies to the Best―


Verse:007
Abdul Daryabadi : to him We shall indeed make easy the path to ease.
Dr. Mohsin : We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : We will facilitate for him the way to extreme ease (i.e. the comforts of Paradise). [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease.
Yusuf Ali : We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss.


Verse:008
Abdul Daryabadi : And as for him who stints and is unheeding,
Dr. Mohsin : But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient.[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : But the one who is miser and deems himself self-sufficient,
Pickthal : But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent,
Yusuf Ali : But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient.


Verse:009
Abdul Daryabadi : and who belies the Good,
Dr. Mohsin : And gives belies Al-Husna (See the footnote of the Verse No: 6);
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And rejects the best (religion),
Pickthal : And disbelieveth in goodness;
Yusuf Ali : And gives the lie to the Best―


Verse:010
Abdul Daryabadi : to him we shall indeed make easy the path to hardship,
Dr. Mohsin : We will make smooth for him the path for evil;
Mufti Taqi Usmani : We will facilitate for him the way to extreme distress.
Pickthal : Surely We will ease his way unto adversity.
Yusuf Ali : We will indeed make smooth for him the Path to Misery;


Verse:011
Abdul Daryabadi : and when he perished his substance will not avail him.
Dr. Mohsin : And what will his wealth avail him when he goes down (in destruction).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And his wealth will not help him when he will fall down (into Hell).
Pickthal : His riches will not save him when he perisheth.
Yusuf Ali : Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit).


Verse:012
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily on Us is the guidance.
Dr. Mohsin : Truly! on Us is (to give) guidance,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Of course, it is undertaken by Us to guide,
Pickthal : Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance
Yusuf Ali : Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide.


Verse:013
Abdul Daryabadi : And verily Ours is both the Hereafter and the present life.
Dr. Mohsin : And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And in Our control is the Hereafter and the worldly life.
Pickthal : And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former.
Yusuf Ali : And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning.


Verse:014
Abdul Daryabadi : Wherefore I have warned you of a flaming Fire.
Dr. Mohsin : Therefore I have warned you of a blazing (Hell);
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So I have warned you of a blazing fire.
Pickthal : Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire
Yusuf Ali : Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely;


Verse:015
Abdul Daryabadi : None shall roast therein except the most wretched,
Dr. Mohsin : None shall enter it save the most wretched,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : None will enter it but the wretched one,
Pickthal : Which only the most wretched must endure,
Yusuf Ali : None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones


Verse:016
Abdul Daryabadi : who denies and turns away.
Dr. Mohsin : Who denies and turns away.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Who rejected (the truth) and turned away (from it).
Pickthal : He who denieth and turneth away.
Yusuf Ali : Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs.


Verse:017
Abdul Daryabadi : And the pious shall avoid it altogether,
Dr. Mohsin : And Al-Muttaqûn (the pious and righteous - see V.2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And saved from it will be the most God-fearing one,
Pickthal : Far removed from it will be the righteous
Yusuf Ali : But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it―


Verse:018
Abdul Daryabadi : he who spends his substance that he may be cleansed,
Dr. Mohsin : He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Who gives his wealth (in charity) to become purified, [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness).
Yusuf Ali : Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification,


Verse:019
Abdul Daryabadi : and who has no favour from any one to pay back,
Dr. Mohsin : And who has (in mind) no favour from anyone,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : While no one has conferred any favour on him for which he would give a return,
Pickthal : And none hath with him any favour for reward,
Yusuf Ali : And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return,


Verse:020
Abdul Daryabadi : but only seeks the goodwill of his Lord the Most High.
Dr. Mohsin : Except to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High;
Mufti Taqi Usmani : But (he gave his wealth in charity) only to seek the Countenance of his Lord, [QETafseerComment] the Most High.
Pickthal : Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High.
Yusuf Ali : But only the desire to seek for the countenance of their Lord Most High.


Verse:021
Abdul Daryabadi : And soon he shall be well-pleased.
Dr. Mohsin : He surely, will be pleased (when he will enters Paradise).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And surely he will soon be happy.
Pickthal : He verily will be content.
Yusuf Ali : And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction.
