Verse:001Abdul Daryabadi : Hath there come Unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event
Dr. Mohsin : Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Has there come to you the description of the Overwhelming Event?
Pickthal : Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming?
Yusuf Ali : Has the story reached thee, of the Overwhelming (Event)?
Verse:002Abdul Daryabadi : Faces on that Day shall be downcast,
Dr. Mohsin : Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Many faces that day will be humbled,
Pickthal : On that day (many) faces will be downcast,
Yusuf Ali : Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated,
Verse:003Abdul Daryabadi : Travailing, worn.
Dr. Mohsin : Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allâh), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Laboring, exhausted.
Pickthal : Toiling, weary,
Yusuf Ali : Labouring (hard) weary―
Verse:004Abdul Daryabadi : They shall roast into the scalding Fire,
Dr. Mohsin : They will enter in the hot blazing Fire,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They will enter into the scorching fire.
Pickthal : Scorched by burning fire,
Yusuf Ali : The while they enter the Blazing Fire―
Verse:005Abdul Daryabadi : Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling.
Dr. Mohsin : They will be given to drink from a boiling spring,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They will be made to drink water from a boiling spring.
Pickthal : Drinking from a boiling spring,
Yusuf Ali : The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring,
Verse:006Abdul Daryabadi : No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn,
Dr. Mohsin : No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : There will be no food for them except from a thorny plant
Pickthal : No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit
Yusuf Ali : No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari
Verse:007Abdul Daryabadi : Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger.
Dr. Mohsin : Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger
Mufti Taqi Usmani : That will neither nourish, nor satisfy hunger.
Pickthal : Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger.
Yusuf Ali : Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger.
Verse:008Abdul Daryabadi : Faces on that Day shall be de lighted,
Dr. Mohsin : (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Many faces that day will be full of glamour,
Pickthal : In that day other faces will be calm,
Yusuf Ali : Other) faces that Day will be joyful.
Verse:009Abdul Daryabadi : With their endeavour well pleased.
Dr. Mohsin : Glad with their endeavour (for their good deeds which they did in this world, along with the true Faith of Islâmic Monotheism).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Well pleased with their endeavor,
Pickthal : Glad for their effort past,
Yusuf Ali : Pleased with their Striving―
Verse:010Abdul Daryabadi : They shall be in a Garden lofty:
Dr. Mohsin : In a lofty Paradise
Mufti Taqi Usmani : In a lofty garden,
Pickthal : In a high garden
Yusuf Ali : In a Garden on high,
Verse:011Abdul Daryabadi : They shall hear therein no vain discourse;
Dr. Mohsin : Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : In which they will not hear any absurd talk.
Pickthal : Where they hear no idle speech,
Yusuf Ali : Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity:
Verse:012Abdul Daryabadi : Therein shall be a spring running!
Dr. Mohsin : Therein will be a running spring,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : In it there is a flowing spring.
Pickthal : Wherein is a gushing spring,
Yusuf Ali : Therein will be a bubbling spring:
Verse:013Abdul Daryabadi : Therein shall be couches elevated!
Dr. Mohsin : Therein will be thrones raised high,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : In it there are elevated couches
Pickthal : Wherein are couches raised
Yusuf Ali : Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high,
Verse:014Abdul Daryabadi : And goblets ready placed!
Dr. Mohsin : And cups set at hand
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And goblets, well placed,
Pickthal : And goblets set at hand
Yusuf Ali : Goblets placed (ready).
Verse:015Abdul Daryabadi : And cushions ranged!
Dr. Mohsin : And cushions set in rows,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And cushions, arrayed
Pickthal : And cushions ranged
Yusuf Ali : And Cushions set in rows,
Verse:016Abdul Daryabadi : And carpets ready spread,
Dr. Mohsin : And rich carpets (all) spread out
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And carpets, spread around.
Pickthal : And silken carpets spread.
Yusuf Ali : And rich carpets (All) spread out.
Verse:017Abdul Daryabadi : Look they not at the camels, how they are created?
Dr. Mohsin : Do they not look at the camels, how they are created?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, do they not look at the camels how they are created, [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : Will they not regard the camels, how they are created?
Yusuf Ali : Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?―
Verse:018Abdul Daryabadi : And at the heaven, how it is raised?
Dr. Mohsin : And at the heaven, how it is raised?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And at the sky, how it is raised high,
Pickthal : And the heaven, how it is raised?
Yusuf Ali : And at the Sky, how it is raised high?
Verse:019Abdul Daryabadi : And at the mountains, how they are rooted?
Dr. Mohsin : And at the mountains, how they are rooted (and fixed firm)?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And at the mountains, how they are installed,
Pickthal : And the hills, how they are set up?
Yusuf Ali : And at the Mountains How they are fixed firm?―
Verse:020Abdul Daryabadi : And at the earth, how it is outspread?
Dr. Mohsin : And at the earth, how it is outspread?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And at the earth, how it is spread out?
Pickthal : And the earth, how it is spread?
Yusuf Ali : And at the Earth, how it is spread out?
Verse:021Abdul Daryabadi : Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher.
Dr. Mohsin : So remind them (O Muhammad (SAW)) — you are only a one who reminds.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, (O Prophet,) keep on preaching; you are only a preacher.
Pickthal : Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer,
Yusuf Ali : Therefore do thou give admonition for thou art one to admonish.
Verse:022Abdul Daryabadi : Thou art not over them a warden.
Dr. Mohsin : You are not a dictator over them —
Mufti Taqi Usmani : You are not a taskmaster set up over them,
Pickthal : Thou art not at all a warder over them.
Yusuf Ali : Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs.
Verse:023Abdul Daryabadi : But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve -
Dr. Mohsin : Save the one who turns away and disbelieves.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : But whoever turns away and disbelieves,
Pickthal : But whoso is averse and disbelieveth,
Yusuf Ali : But if any turn away and rejects Allah―
Verse:024Abdul Daryabadi : Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment.
Dr. Mohsin : Then Allâh will punish him with the greatest punishment.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Allah will punish him with the greatest torment.
Pickthal : Allah will punish him with direst punishment.
Yusuf Ali : Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment.
Verse:025Abdul Daryabadi : Verily Unto us is their reckoning.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, to Us will be their return;
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Surely towards Us they have to return,
Pickthal : Lo! unto Us is their return
Yusuf Ali : For to Us will be their Return;
Verse:026Abdul Daryabadi : Then verily on us is their reckoning.
Dr. Mohsin : Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then it is Our job to call them to account.
Pickthal : And Ours their reckoning.
Yusuf Ali : Then it will be for Us to call them to account.
