Verse:001
Abdul Daryabadi : By the heaven and the night-comer
Dr. Mohsin : By the heaven, and At-Târiq (the night-comer, i.e. the bright star);
Mufti Taqi Usmani : I swear by the sky and by the Night-Comer,__
Pickthal : By the heaven and the Morning Star
Yusuf Ali : By the Sky and the Night-Visitant (therein)―


Verse:002
Abdul Daryabadi : And what shall make thee know that which the night-comer is?
Dr. Mohsin : And what will make you to know what At-Târiq (night-comer) is?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And what may let you know what the Night-Comer is?
Pickthal : - Ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is!
Yusuf Ali : And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?―


Verse:003
Abdul Daryabadi : It is the star shing brightly.
Dr. Mohsin : (It is) the star of piercing brightness;
Mufti Taqi Usmani : The star of piercing brightness!_ [QETafseerComment] _
Pickthal : - The piercing Star!
Yusuf Ali : (It is) the Star of piercing brightness―


Verse:004
Abdul Daryabadi : No soul is there but hath over it a watcher.
Dr. Mohsin : There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels in charge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : There is no human being, but there is a watcher over him.
Pickthal : No human soul but hath a guardian over it.
Yusuf Ali : There is no soul but has a protector over it.


Verse:005
Abdul Daryabadi : So let man look - from what is he created.
Dr. Mohsin : So let man see from what he is created!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, let man consider of which stuff he is created.
Pickthal : So let man consider from what he is created.
Yusuf Ali : Now let man but think from what he is created!


Verse:006
Abdul Daryabadi : He is created from a water drip-ping,
Dr. Mohsin : He is created from a water gushing forth,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : He is created of spouting water
Pickthal : He is created from a gushing fluid
Yusuf Ali : He is created from a drop emitted―


Verse:007
Abdul Daryabadi : That issueth from between the loins and the breast-bones.
Dr. Mohsin : Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : That comes out from between the loins and the chest-bones. [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : That issued from between the loins and ribs.
Yusuf Ali : Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs:


Verse:008
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily He is Able to restore him,
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, (Allâh) is Able to bring him back (to life)!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Surely He is Powerful to bring him back
Pickthal : Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life)
Yusuf Ali : Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)!


Verse:009
Abdul Daryabadi : On a Day whereon secrets shall be out.
Dr. Mohsin : The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth)
Mufti Taqi Usmani : On a day when all the secrets will be searched out, [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out.
Yusuf Ali : The Day that (all) things secret will be tested.


Verse:010
Abdul Daryabadi : Then he shall have no power nor any helper.
Dr. Mohsin : Then he will have no power, nor any helper.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And he will have neither strength (to defend), nor a supporter.
Pickthal : Then will he have no might nor any helper.
Yusuf Ali : (Man) will have no power, and no helper.


Verse:011
Abdul Daryabadi : By the heaven which returneth,
Dr. Mohsin : By the sky (having rain clouds) which gives rain, again and again.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : I swear by the sky that rains,
Pickthal : By the heaven which giveth the returning rain,
Yusuf Ali : By the Firmament which returns (in its round),


Verse:012
Abdul Daryabadi : And by the earth which splitteth,
Dr. Mohsin : And the earth which splits (with the growth of trees and plants),
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And the earth that cracks open (for plants),
Pickthal : And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants)
Yusuf Ali : And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation)―


Verse:013
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily, it is a discourse distinguishing.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, this (the Qur'ân) is the Word that separates (the truth from falsehood, and commands strict laws for mankind to cut the roots of evil).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : This is a decisive word,
Pickthal : Lo! this (Qur'an) is a conclusive word,
Yusuf Ali : Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil):


Verse:014
Abdul Daryabadi : And it is not a frivolity.
Dr. Mohsin : And it is not a thing for amusement.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And it is not a joke.
Pickthal : It is no pleasantry.
Yusuf Ali : It is not a thing for amusement.


Verse:015
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily they are plotting a plot.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, they are but plotting a plot (against you O Muhammad (SAW)).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They are devising plans,
Pickthal : Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad)
Yusuf Ali : As for them, they are but plotting a scheme,


Verse:016
Abdul Daryabadi : And I am plotting a plot.
Dr. Mohsin : And I (too) am planning a plan.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And I Am devising plans.
Pickthal : And I plot a plot (against them).
Yusuf Ali : And I am planning a scheme.


Verse:017
Abdul Daryabadi : So respite thou the infidels - respite them gently,
Dr. Mohsin : So give a respite to the disbelievers; deal gently with them for a while.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So leave the disbelievers alone at the moment; give them respite for a while. [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while.
Yusuf Ali : Therefore grant a delay to the unbelievers: give respite to them gently (for a while).
