Verse:001
Abdul Daryabadi : I swear by the Day of Resurrection.
Dr. Mohsin : I swear by the Day of Resurrection;
Mufti Taqi Usmani : I swear by the Day of Resurrection,
Pickthal : Nay, I swear by the Day of Resurrection;
Yusuf Ali : I do call to witness the Resurrection Day;


Verse:002
Abdul Daryabadi : And I swear by the self-reproaching soul.
Dr. Mohsin : And I swear by the self-reproaching person (a believer).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And I swear by the self-reproaching conscience, (that Resurrection is a reality.)
Pickthal : Nay, I swear by the accusing soul (that this Scripture is true).
Yusuf Ali : And I do call to witness the self-reproaching spirit; (Eschew Evil).


Verse:003
Abdul Daryabadi : Deemest man that We shall not assemble his bones?
Dr. Mohsin : Does man (a disbeliever) think that We shall not assemble his bones?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Does man think that We will never reassemble his bones?
Pickthal : Thinketh man that We shall not assemble his bones?
Yusuf Ali : Does man think that We cannot assemble his bones?


Verse:004
Abdul Daryabadi : Yea! WE are Able to put together evenly his finger-tips.
Dr. Mohsin : Yes, We are Able to put together in perfect order the tips of his fingers.[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Why (can We) not (do so), while We are able to reset (even) his fingertips perfectly? [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : Yea, verily Yea. We are Able to restore his very fingers!
Yusuf Ali : Nay, We are able to put together in perfect order the very tips of his fingers.


Verse:005
Abdul Daryabadi : Aye! man desireth that he may sin before him.
Dr. Mohsin : Nay! (Man denies Resurrection and Reckoning. So he) desires to continue committing sins.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : But man wishes to go on violating Allah’s injunctions (even in future) ahead of him.
Pickthal : But man would fain deny what is before him.
Yusuf Ali : But man wishes to do wrong (even) in the time in front of him.


Verse:006
Abdul Daryabadi : He asketh: when will the Day of Resurrection be?
Dr. Mohsin : He asks: "When will be this Day of Resurrection?"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : He asks, “When will be this Day of Resurrection?”
Pickthal : He asketh: When will be this Day of Resurrection?
Yusuf Ali : He questions: "When is the Day of Resurrection?"


Verse:007
Abdul Daryabadi : When, then, the sight shall be confounded.
Dr. Mohsin : So, when the sight shall be dazed,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, when the eyes will be dazzled,
Pickthal : But when sight is confounded
Yusuf Ali : At length, when the Sight is dazed,


Verse:008
Abdul Daryabadi : And the moon shall be ecliped.
Dr. Mohsin : And the moon will be eclipsed,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And the moon will lose its light,
Pickthal : And the moon is eclipsed
Yusuf Ali : And the moon is buried in darkness.


Verse:009
Abdul Daryabadi : And the sun and the moon shall be joined.
Dr. Mohsin : And the sun and moon will be joined together (by going one into the other or folded up or deprived of their light).[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And the sun and the moon will be joined together, [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : And sun and moon are united,
Yusuf Ali : And the sun and moon are joined together―


Verse:010
Abdul Daryabadi : On that Day shall man say: whither is the fleeing.
Dr. Mohsin : On that Day man will say: "Where (is the refuge) to flee?"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : On that day man will say, “Where to escape?”
Pickthal : On that day man will cry: Whither to flee!
Yusuf Ali : That Day will Man say "Where is the refuge?"


Verse:011
Abdul Daryabadi : By no means! NO refuge!
Dr. Mohsin : No! There is no refuge!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Never! There will be no refuge at all.
Pickthal : Alas! No refuge!
Yusuf Ali : By no means! no place of safety!


Verse:012
Abdul Daryabadi : Unto thy Lord that Day is the recourse.
Dr. Mohsin : Unto your Lord (Alone) will be the place of rest that Day.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : On that day, towards your Lord will be the destination (of everyone.)
Pickthal : Unto thy Lord is the recourse that day.
Yusuf Ali : Before thy Lord (alone), that Day will be the place of rest.


Verse:013
Abdul Daryabadi : To man will be declared on that Day that which he hath sent on and left behind.
Dr. Mohsin : On that Day man will be informed of what he sent forward (of his evil or good deeds), and what he left behind (of his good or evil traditions).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Man will be informed of what he sent ahead and what he left behind.
Pickthal : On that day man is told the tale of that which he hath sent before and left behind.
Yusuf Ali : That Day will man be told (all) that he put forward, and all that he put back.


Verse:014
Abdul Daryabadi : Aye! man against himself shall be an enlightenment.
Dr. Mohsin : Nay! Man will be a witness against himself [as his body parts (skin, hands, legs, etc.) will speak about his deeds].
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Rather, man will be a witness against himself,
Pickthal : Oh, but man is a telling witness against himself,
Yusuf Ali : Nay, man will be evidence against himself.


Verse:015
Abdul Daryabadi : Although he may put forth his pleas.
Dr. Mohsin : Though he may put forth his excuses (to cover his evil deeds).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Even though he may offer his excuses.
Pickthal : Although he tender his excuses.
Yusuf Ali : Even though he were to put up his excuses.


Verse:016
Abdul Daryabadi : Move not thy tongue therewith that thou mayest hasten therewith.
Dr. Mohsin : Move not your tongue concerning (the Qur'ân, O Muhammad SAW) to make haste therewith.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : O Prophet,) do not move your tongue (during revelation) for (reciting) it (the Qur’an) to receive it in hurry. [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : Stir not thy tongue herewith to hasten it.
Yusuf Ali : Move not thy tongue concerning the (Qur'an) to make haste therewith.


Verse:017
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily upon us is the collecting thereof and the reciting thereof.
Dr. Mohsin : It is for Us to collect it and to give you (O Muhammad SAW) the ability to recite it (the Qur'ân),
Mufti Taqi Usmani : It is surely undertaken by Us to store it (in your heart), and to let it be recited (by you after revelation is completed).
Pickthal : Lo! upon Us (resteth) the putting together thereof and the reading thereof.
Yusuf Ali : It is for Us to collect it and to promulgate it:


Verse:018
Abdul Daryabadi : Wherefore when We reciteit, follow thou the reciting thereof.
Dr. Mohsin : And when We have recited it to you [O Muhammad SAW through Jibril (Gabriel)], then follow you its (the Qur'ân's) recital.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Therefore, when it is recited by Us (through the angel), follow its recitation (by concentration of your heart).
Pickthal : And when We read it, follow thou the reading;
Yusuf Ali : But when We have promulgated it, follow thou its recital (as promulgated):


Verse:019
Abdul Daryabadi : And thereafter verily upon us is is the expounding thereof.
Dr. Mohsin : Then it is for Us (Allâh) to make it clear (to you).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then, it is undertaken by Us to explain it.
Pickthal : Then lo! upon Us (resteth) the explanation thereof.
Yusuf Ali : Nay more, it is for Us to explain it (and make it clear):


Verse:020
Abdul Daryabadi : By no means! Verily ye love the Herein.
Dr. Mohsin : Not [as you think, that you (mankind) will not be resurrected and recompensed for your deeds], but you (men) love the present life of this world,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Never, (your denial of Resurrection is never based on any sound reason!) Instead, you love that which is immediate,
Pickthal : Nay, but ye do love the fleeting Now
Yusuf Ali : Nay, (ye men!) but ye love the fleeting life,


Verse:021
Abdul Daryabadi : And leave the Hereafter.
Dr. Mohsin : And neglect the Hereafter.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And neglect the Hereafter.
Pickthal : And neglect the Hereafter.
Yusuf Ali : And leave alone the Hereafter.


Verse:022
Abdul Daryabadi : Countenances on that Day shall be resplendent,
Dr. Mohsin : Some faces that Day shall be Nâdirah (shining and radiant).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Many faces, that day, will be glowing,
Pickthal : That day will faces be resplendent,
Yusuf Ali : Some faces, that Day, will beam (in brightness and beauty)―


Verse:023
Abdul Daryabadi : Looking toward their Lord.
Dr. Mohsin : Looking at their Lord (Allâh);
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Looking towards their Lord,
Pickthal : Looking toward their Lord;
Yusuf Ali : Looking towards their Lord;


Verse:024
Abdul Daryabadi : And countenances on that Day shall be scowling.
Dr. Mohsin : And some faces, that Day, will be Bâsirah (dark, gloomy, frowning, and sad),
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And many faces, that day, will be gloomy,
Pickthal : And that day will other faces be despondent,
Yusuf Ali : And some faces, that Day, will be sad and dismal,


Verse:025
Abdul Daryabadi : Imagining that there will befall them a waiste-breaking calomity.
Dr. Mohsin : Thinking that some calamity is about to fall on them;
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Realizing that a back-breaking calamity is going to be afflicted on them.
Pickthal : Thou wilt know that some great disaster is about to fall on them.
Yusuf Ali : In the thought that some back-breaking calamity was about to be inflicted on them;


Verse:026
Abdul Daryabadi : By no means! When it cometh up to he collar-bone.
Dr. Mohsin : Nay, when (the soul) reaches to the collar bone (i.e. up to the throat in its exit),
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Never, (you will never remain in this world forever!) When the soul (of a patient) reaches the clavicles,
Pickthal : Nay, but when the life cometh up to the throat
Yusuf Ali : Yea, when (the soul) reaches to the collar-bone (in its exit)


Verse:027
Abdul Daryabadi : And it is cried. who can charm?
Dr. Mohsin : And it will be said: "Who can cure him (and save him from death)?"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And it is said, “Who is an enchanter (that can save him?)” [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : And it is said: Where is the wizard (who can save him now)?
Yusuf Ali : And there will be a cry: "Who is a magician (to restore him)?"


Verse:028
Abdul Daryabadi : And he bethinketh that it is the time of parting.
Dr. Mohsin : And he (the dying person) will conclude that it was (the time) of parting (death);
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And he realizes that it is (the time of) departure (from the world,)
Pickthal : And he knoweth that it is the parting;
Yusuf Ali : And he will conclude that it was (the Time) of Parting;


Verse:029
Abdul Daryabadi : And one shank is entangled with the other shank.
Dr. Mohsin : And one leg will be joined with another leg (shrouded)[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And one shank is intertwined with the other shank, [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : And agony is heaped on agony;
Yusuf Ali : And one leg will be joined with another:


Verse:030
Abdul Daryabadi : Unto thy Lord that Day is the drive.
Dr. Mohsin : The drive will be, on that Day, to your Lord (Allâh)!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then on that day, it is to your Lord that one has to be driven.
Pickthal : Unto thy Lord that day will be the driving.
Yusuf Ali : That Day the Drive will be (all) to thy Lord!


Verse:031
Abdul Daryabadi : He neither believed nor prayed,
Dr. Mohsin : So he (the disbeliever) neither believed (in this Qur'ân, and in the Message of Muhammad SAW) nor prayed!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So (the denier of the Hereafter) neither believed, nor prayed,
Pickthal : For he neither trusted, nor prayed.
Yusuf Ali : So he gave nothing in charity nor did he pray!


Verse:032
Abdul Daryabadi : But he belied and turned away.
Dr. Mohsin : But on the contrary, he belied (this Qur'ân and the Message of Muhammad SAW) and turned away!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : But rejected the truth and turned away (from it),
Pickthal : But he denied and flouted.
Yusuf Ali : But on the contrary, he rejected Truth and turned away!


Verse:033
Abdul Daryabadi : Then he departed Unto his house hold conceitedly.
Dr. Mohsin : Then he walked in conceit (full pride) to his family admiring himself!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then he went to his home, puffed up with pride.
Pickthal : Then went he to his folk with glee.
Yusuf Ali : Then did he stalk to his family in full conceit!


Verse:034
Abdul Daryabadi : Woe Unto thee; woe!
Dr. Mohsin : Woe to you [O man (disbeliever)]! And then (again) woe to you!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : It will be said to such a man,) Woe to you, then woe to you!
Pickthal : Nearer unto thee and nearer,
Yusuf Ali : Woe to thee, (O man!) yea, woe!


Verse:035
Abdul Daryabadi : Again, woe Unto thee, woe!
Dr. Mohsin : Again, woe to you [O man (disbeliever)]! And then (again) woe to you!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Again, woe to you, then woe to you!
Pickthal : Again nearer unto thee and nearer (is the doom).
Yusuf Ali : Again woe to thee, (O man!) yea, woe!


Verse:036
Abdul Daryabadi : Deemest man that he is to be left uncontrolled?
Dr. Mohsin : Does man think that he will be left neglected [without being punished or rewarded for the obligatory duties enjoined by his Lord (Allâh) on him]?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Does man presume that he will be left unchecked?
Pickthal : Thinketh man that he is to be left aimless?
Yusuf Ali : Does Man think that he will be left uncontrolled, (without purpose)?


Verse:037
Abdul Daryabadi : Was he not a sperm of emission emitted?
Dr. Mohsin : Was he not a Nutfah (mixed male and female sexual discharge) of semen emitted (poured forth)?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Was he not an ejaculated drop of semen?
Pickthal : Was he not a drop of fluid which gushed forth?
Yusuf Ali : Was he not a drop of sperm emitted (in lowly form)?


Verse:038
Abdul Daryabadi : Then he became a clot; then He created him and formed him.
Dr. Mohsin : Then he became an 'Alaqa (a clot); then (Allâh) shaped and fashioned (him) in due proportion.[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then he became a clot of blood, then He created (him) and made (him) perfect,
Pickthal : Then he became a clot; then (Allah) shaped and fashioned
Yusuf Ali : Then did he become a clinging clot; then did (Allah) make and fashion (him) in due proportion.


Verse:039
Abdul Daryabadi : And made of him the two sexes, male and female.
Dr. Mohsin : And made him in two sexes, male and female.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And made from him two kinds, male and female.
Pickthal : And made of him a pair, the male and female.
Yusuf Ali : And of him He made two sexes, male and female.


Verse:040
Abdul Daryabadi : Is not That One then Able to quicken the dead?
Dr. Mohsin : Is not He (Allâh Who does that), Able to give life to the dead? (Yes! He is Able to do all things).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Has He no power to give life to the dead?
Pickthal : Is not He (Who doeth so) able to bring the dead to life?
Yusuf Ali : Has not He, (the same) the power to give life to the dead?
