Verse:001Abdul Daryabadi : When there happeneth Event.
Dr. Mohsin : When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : When the Imminent Event (of Doom) will occur,
Pickthal : When the event befalleth -
Yusuf Ali : When the Event inevitable cometh to pass.
Verse:002Abdul Daryabadi : There is about its happening no lie.
Dr. Mohsin : And there can be no denyial of its befalling.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : There will be no one to deny its occurrence.
Pickthal : There is no denying that it will befall -
Yusuf Ali : Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming.
Verse:003Abdul Daryabadi : Abasing exalting.
Dr. Mohsin : Bringing low (some — those who will enter Hell) Exalting (others- those who will enter Paradise). (Tafsir Ibn-Kathir)
Mufti Taqi Usmani : It will be abasing (some), exalting (others)
Pickthal : Abasing (some), exalting (others);
Yusuf Ali : (Many) will it bring low, (many) will it exalt;
Verse:004Abdul Daryabadi : This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken
Dr. Mohsin : When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : When the earth will be jolted with a terrible jolt,
Pickthal : When the earth is shaken with a shock
Yusuf Ali : When the earth shall be shaken to its depths,
Verse:005Abdul Daryabadi : And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled.
Dr. Mohsin : And the mountains will be powdered to dust.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And the mountains will be crumbled a thorough crumbling,
Pickthal : And the hills are ground to powder
Yusuf Ali : And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms,
Verse:006Abdul Daryabadi : So that they become dust seattered.
Dr. Mohsin : So that they will become floating dust particles.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Until they will become dust, scattered in the air,
Pickthal : So that they become a scattered dust,
Yusuf Ali : Becoming dust scattered abroad,
Verse:007Abdul Daryabadi : And ye are classes three.
Dr. Mohsin : And you (all) will be in three groups.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And you will be (divided into) three categories. [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : And ye will be three kinds:
Yusuf Ali : And ye shall be sorted out into three classes.
Verse:008Abdul Daryabadi : Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be!
Dr. Mohsin : So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands) — how (fortunate) will be those on the Right Hand! (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : As for the People of the Right, how (lucky) are the People of the Right!
Pickthal : (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand?
Yusuf Ali : Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand― what will be the Companions of the Right Hand?
Verse:009Abdul Daryabadi : And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be!
Dr. Mohsin : And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands) — how (unfortunate) will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And the People of the Left ? How (wretched) are the People of the Left!
Pickthal : And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand?
Yusuf Ali : And the Companions of the Left hand― what will be the Companions of the Left Hand?
Verse:010Abdul Daryabadi : And the preceders are the pre-ceders.
Dr. Mohsin : And those foremost [(in Islâmic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islâm,] will be foremost (in Paradise).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And the Foremost are the foremost.
Pickthal : And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race:
Yusuf Ali : And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter).
Verse:011Abdul Daryabadi : Those! they shall be the brought nigh,
Dr. Mohsin : These will be those nearest (to Allâh).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Those are the ones blessed with nearness (to Allah)
Pickthal : Those are they who will be brought nigh
Yusuf Ali : These will be those Nearest to Allah:
Verse:012Abdul Daryabadi : In Gardens of Delight.
Dr. Mohsin : In the Gardens of Delight (Paradise).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : In gardens of bliss,
Pickthal : In gardens of delight;
Yusuf Ali : In Gardens of Bliss:
Verse:013Abdul Daryabadi : A multitude from the ancients.
Dr. Mohsin : A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islâm).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Many from the first generations,
Pickthal : A multitude of those of old
Yusuf Ali : A number of people from those of old
Verse:014Abdul Daryabadi : And a few from the later generations.
Dr. Mohsin : And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later generations.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And a few from the later ones. [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : And a few of those of later time.
Yusuf Ali : And a few from those of later times.
Verse:015Abdul Daryabadi : On couches in wrought with gold.
Dr. Mohsin : (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They will be sitting) on thrones woven with gold,
Pickthal : On lined couches,
Yusuf Ali : (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones).
Verse:016Abdul Daryabadi : Reclining thereon facing each other.
Dr. Mohsin : Reclining thereon, face to face.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Reclining on them, facing each other.
Pickthal : Reclining therein face to face.
Yusuf Ali : Reclining on them facing each other.
Verse:017Abdul Daryabadi : There shall go round Unto them youths ever-young.
Dr. Mohsin : Immortal boys will go around them (serving).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Immortal boys will rotate around them
Pickthal : There wait on them immortal youths
Yusuf Ali : Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness).
Verse:018Abdul Daryabadi : With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink.
Dr. Mohsin : With cups, and jugs, and a glass of the flowing wine,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : With bowls and jugs and a goblet of pure wine,
Pickthal : With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring
Yusuf Ali : With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains:
Verse:019Abdul Daryabadi : Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated.
Dr. Mohsin : Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : From which they will neither suffer headache, nor will they be intoxicated,
Pickthal : Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness,
Yusuf Ali : No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication:
Verse:020Abdul Daryabadi : And with fruit from that which they choose.
Dr. Mohsin : And with fruit, that they may choose.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And with fruits that they choose,
Pickthal : And fruit that they prefer
Yusuf Ali : And with fruits, any that they may select;
Verse:021Abdul Daryabadi : And with flesh of fowls from that Which they desire.
Dr. Mohsin : And with the flesh of fowls that they desire.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And the flesh of birds that they desire.
Pickthal : And flesh of fowls that they desire.
Yusuf Ali : And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire.
Verse:022Abdul Daryabadi : And there will be fair ones large eyed.
Dr. Mohsin : And (there will be) Hur (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious),
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And (for them there will be) houris, having lovely big eyes,
Pickthal : And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes,
Yusuf Ali : And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes--
Verse:023Abdul Daryabadi : The likes Unto pearls hidden.
Dr. Mohsin : Like unto preserved pearls.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : All (neat and clean) like a hidden pearl,
Pickthal : Like unto hidden pearls,
Yusuf Ali : Like unto Pearls well-guarded.
Verse:024Abdul Daryabadi : A recompense for that which they have been working.
Dr. Mohsin : A reward for what they used to do.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : As a reward for what they used to do.
Pickthal : Reward for what they used to do.
Yusuf Ali : A Reward for the Deeds of their past (Life).
Verse:025Abdul Daryabadi : Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse.
Dr. Mohsin : No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They will hear neither an absurd talk in it, nor something leading to sin,
Pickthal : There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination
Yusuf Ali : No frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill―
Verse:026Abdul Daryabadi : Nought but the saying: peace! peace!
Dr. Mohsin : But only the saying of: Salâm!, Salâm! (greetings with peace)[] !
Mufti Taqi Usmani : But (they will hear) the words of Salam , Salam (as greetings).
Pickthal : (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace.
Yusuf Ali : Only the saying "Peace! Peace."
Verse:027Abdul Daryabadi : And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be!
Dr. Mohsin : And those on the Right Hand- how (fortunate) will be those on the Right Hand?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And the People of the right? How (lucky) are the People of the Right!
Pickthal : And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand?
Yusuf Ali : The Companions of the Right Hand, what will be the Companions of the Right Hand?
Verse:028Abdul Daryabadi : Midst lote-trees thornless.
Dr. Mohsin : (They will be) among thornless lote-trees,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They will be) amid lote-trees with no thorns,
Pickthal : Among thornless lote-trees
Yusuf Ali : (They will be) among lote trees without thorns,
Verse:029Abdul Daryabadi : And plantains laden with fruit.
Dr. Mohsin : And Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And the trees of talh , (banana, or a fragrant tree) having layers one upon the other,
Pickthal : And clustered plantains,
Yusuf Ali : Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another―
Verse:030Abdul Daryabadi : And a shade ever-spread.
Dr. Mohsin : In shade long-extended,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And a shade, spread all over,
Pickthal : And spreading shade,
Yusuf Ali : In shade long-extended,
Verse:031Abdul Daryabadi : And water everflowing.
Dr. Mohsin : And by water flowing constantly,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And water, poured forth,
Pickthal : And water gushing,
Yusuf Ali : By water flowing constantly
Verse:032Abdul Daryabadi : And fruit abundant.
Dr. Mohsin : And fruit in plenty,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And a lot of fruits,
Pickthal : And fruit in plenty
Yusuf Ali : And fruit in abundance
Verse:033Abdul Daryabadi : Neither ending nor forbidden.
Dr. Mohsin : Whose supply is not cut off (by change of season) nor are they out of reach.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Neither interrupted (in any season), nor prohibited,
Pickthal : Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden,
Yusuf Ali : Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden,
Verse:034Abdul Daryabadi : And carpets raised.
Dr. Mohsin : And on couches or thrones, raised high.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And mattresses of high quality.
Pickthal : And raised couches;
Yusuf Ali : And on Thrones (of Dignity) raised high.
Verse:035Abdul Daryabadi : Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Surely We have made up those females in a special creation,
Pickthal : Lo! We have created them a (new) creation
Yusuf Ali : We have created (their Companions) of special creation.
Verse:036Abdul Daryabadi : And have made them virgins.
Dr. Mohsin : And made them virgins.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And have made them virgins,
Pickthal : And made them virgins,
Yusuf Ali : And made them virgin-pure (and undefiled)―
Verse:037Abdul Daryabadi : Loving, of equal age.
Dr. Mohsin : Loving (their husbands only), (and) of equal age.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Amorous to their husbands, matching them in age,
Pickthal : Lovers, friends,
Yusuf Ali : Beloved (by nature), equal in age―
Verse:038Abdul Daryabadi : For the fellows on the right hand.
Dr. Mohsin : For those on the Right Hand.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : For the People of the Right,
Pickthal : For those on the right hand;
Yusuf Ali : For the companions of the Right Hand.
Verse:039Abdul Daryabadi : A multitude from the ancients.
Dr. Mohsin : A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islâm).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Comprising) many from the first generations,
Pickthal : A multitude of those of old
Yusuf Ali : A (goodly) number from those of old―
Verse:040Abdul Daryabadi : And a multitude from the later generations.
Dr. Mohsin : And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later generations.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And many from the later ones.
Pickthal : And a multitude of those of later time.
Yusuf Ali : And a (goodly) number from those of later times.
Verse:041Abdul Daryabadi : And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable Shall the fellows on the left hand be!
Dr. Mohsin : And those on the Left Hand how (unfortunate) will be those on the Left Hand?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And the People of the Left? How (wretched) are the People of the Left!
Pickthal : And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand?
Yusuf Ali : The Companions of the Left Hand-what will be the Companions of the Left Hand?
Verse:042Abdul Daryabadi : Amidst scorching wind and scalding water.
Dr. Mohsin : In fierce hot wind and boiling water.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They will be) in scorching wind and boiling water,
Pickthal : In scorching wind and scalding water
Yusuf Ali : (They will be) in the midst of a fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water
Verse:043Abdul Daryabadi : And the shade of black smoke.
Dr. Mohsin : And shadow of black smoke.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And in a shade of black smoke,
Pickthal : And shadow of black smoke,
Yusuf Ali : And in the shades of Black Smoke:
Verse:044Abdul Daryabadi : Neither cool nor pleasant.
Dr. Mohsin : (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) pleasant,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Neither cool nor graceful.
Pickthal : Neither cool nor refreshing.
Yusuf Ali : Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please:
Verse:045Abdul Daryabadi : Verily they have been heretofore affluent.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They were earlier in luxuries,
Pickthal : Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury
Yusuf Ali : For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury).
Verse:046Abdul Daryabadi : And they have been persisting in the heinous offence.
Dr. Mohsin : And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allâh, committing murder and other crimes).[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And used to persist in major sins,
Pickthal : And used to persist in the awful sin.
Yusuf Ali : And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme!
Verse:047Abdul Daryabadi : And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised?
Dr. Mohsin : And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And used to say, “Is it that when we die and become dust__is it that we will be raised again,
Pickthal : And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again,
Yusuf Ali : And they used to say "what! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?―
Verse:048Abdul Daryabadi : We and our fathers of old?
Dr. Mohsin : "And also our forefathers?"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And our ancient fathers as well?”
Pickthal : And also our forefathers?
Yusuf Ali : "(We) and our fathers of old?"
Verse:049Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations:
Dr. Mohsin : Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Say, “All the earlier and the later ones
Pickthal : Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time
Yusuf Ali : Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times,
Verse:050Abdul Daryabadi : Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known.
Dr. Mohsin : "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Will be gathered together for a fixed time of a specified Day.
Pickthal : Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day.
Yusuf Ali : "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day Well-known.
Verse:051Abdul Daryabadi : Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people.
Dr. Mohsin : "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then O you, the erring, the denying people,
Pickthal : Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers,
Yusuf Ali : "Then will ye truly, O ye that go wrong and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!―
Verse:052Abdul Daryabadi : Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum.
Dr. Mohsin : "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqûm.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : You will have to eat from the tree of zaqqum, [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum
Yusuf Ali : "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum.
Verse:053Abdul Daryabadi : And shall fill therewith your bellies.
Dr. Mohsin : "Then you will fill your bellies therewith,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And to fill with it the bellies,
Pickthal : And will fill your bellies therewith;
Yusuf Ali : "Then will ye fill your insides therewith,
Verse:054Abdul Daryabadi : And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water.
Dr. Mohsin : "And drink boiling water on top of it.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then on top of it you will have to drink boiling water,
Pickthal : And thereon ye will drink of boiling water,
Yusuf Ali : "And drink Boiling Water on top of it:
Verse:055Abdul Daryabadi : Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels.
Dr. Mohsin : "And you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And to drink like camels suffering from the disease of over-thirst.
Pickthal : Drinking even as the camel drinketh.
Yusuf Ali : "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!
Verse:056Abdul Daryabadi : This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital.
Dr. Mohsin : That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : This will be their welcome entertainment on the Day of Requital.
Pickthal : This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment.
Yusuf Ali : Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital!
Verse:057Abdul Daryabadi : We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not?
Dr. Mohsin : We created you, then why do you believe not?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : We have created you; then why do you not believe in it?
Pickthal : We created you. Will ye then admit the truth?
Yusuf Ali : It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth?
Verse:058Abdul Daryabadi : Behold! - that which ye emit.
Dr. Mohsin : Then tell Me (about) the (human) semen that you emit.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, tell Me about the semen you drop (in the wombs):
Pickthal : Have ye seen that which ye emit?
Yusuf Ali : Do ye then see?― The (human seed) that ye throw out,―
Verse:059Abdul Daryabadi : Create him ye, or are We the Creator?
Dr. Mohsin : Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Is it you who create it, or are We the Creator?
Pickthal : Do ye create it or are We the Creator?
Yusuf Ali : Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creator?
Verse:060Abdul Daryabadi : We! it is We Who have decreed death Unto you all. And We are not to be outrun.
Dr. Mohsin : We have decreed death to you all, and We are not outstripped,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : We have appointed (the times of) death among you, and We cannot be frustrated
Pickthal : We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun,
Yusuf Ali : We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated
Verse:061Abdul Daryabadi : That We may substitute others like Unto you and produce you into that which ye know not.
Dr. Mohsin : To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : From replacing you with others like you, and creating you (afresh) in that (form) which you do not know.
Pickthal : That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not.
Yusuf Ali : From changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (Forms) that ye know not.
Verse:062Abdul Daryabadi : And assuredly ye have fully known the first Production Wherefore heed ye not?
Dr. Mohsin : And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember (or take heed)?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And you certainly know the first creation; [QETafseerComment] then why do you not take lesson?
Pickthal : And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect?
Yusuf Ali : And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises?
Verse:063Abdul Daryabadi : Behold! - that which ye sow.
Dr. Mohsin : Then tell Me! about seed that you sow in the ground.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Well, tell Me about that (seed) which you sow:
Pickthal : Have ye seen that which ye cultivate?
Yusuf Ali : See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground?
Verse:064Abdul Daryabadi : Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower?
Dr. Mohsin : Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Is it you who grow it, or are We the One who grows?
Pickthal : Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer?
Yusuf Ali : Is it ye that cause it to grow or are We the Cause?
Verse:065Abdul Daryabadi : If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering.
Dr. Mohsin : Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). (Tafsir Ibn-Kathir)
Mufti Taqi Usmani : If We so will, We can certainly make it crumbled, and you will remain wondering,
Pickthal : If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim:
Yusuf Ali : Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment
Verse:066Abdul Daryabadi : Verily we are undone.
Dr. Mohsin : (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramûn (i.e. ruined or have lost the money without any profit, or are punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation)! (Tafsir Al-Qurtubî)
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And saying,) “We are laden with debt,
Pickthal : Lo! we are laden with debt!
Yusuf Ali : (Saying) "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing):
Verse:067Abdul Daryabadi : Aye! we are deprived!
Dr. Mohsin : "Nay, but we are deprived!"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Rather we are totally deprived.”
Pickthal : Nay, but we are deprived!
Yusuf Ali : "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)."
Verse:068Abdul Daryabadi : Behold! - the water which ye drink:
Dr. Mohsin : Then tell Me about the water that you drink.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Again, tell Me about the water you drink:
Pickthal : Have ye observed the water which ye drink?
Yusuf Ali : See ye the water which ye drink?
Verse:069Abdul Daryabadi : Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down?
Dr. Mohsin : Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Is it you who have brought it down from the clouds, or are We the One who sends (it) down?
Pickthal : Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder?
Yusuf Ali : Do ye bring it Down (in rain) from the Cloud or do We?
Verse:070Abdul Daryabadi : If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks?
Dr. Mohsin : If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allâh)?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : If We so will, We can make it bitter in taste. So why do you not offer gratitude?
Pickthal : If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks?
Yusuf Ali : Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks?
Verse:071Abdul Daryabadi : Behold! - the fire which ye strike out:
Dr. Mohsin : Then tell Me about the fire which you kindle.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Now tell Me about the fire you kindle:
Pickthal : Have ye observed the fire which ye strike out;
Yusuf Ali : See ye the Fire which ye kindle?
Verse:072Abdul Daryabadi : Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer?
Dr. Mohsin : Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Is it you who have originated its tree, [QETafseerComment] or are We the Originator?
Pickthal : Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower?
Yusuf Ali : Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it?
Verse:073Abdul Daryabadi : We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision Unto the campers.
Dr. Mohsin : We have made it a Reminder (of the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : We have made it a reminder (of Our infinite power, and of the fire of Hell) and a benefit for travelers in deserts.
Pickthal : We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness.
Yusuf Ali : We have made it a reminder (of our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts.
Verse:074Abdul Daryabadi : Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty.
Dr. Mohsin : Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, proclaim purity of the name of your Lord, the Magnificent.
Pickthal : Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous.
Yusuf Ali : Then celebrate with praises the name of the Lord, the Supreme:
Verse:075Abdul Daryabadi : I swear by the setting of the stars -
Dr. Mohsin : So I swear by the setting of the stars.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, I swear by the setting places of the stars,
Pickthal : Nay, I swear by the places of the stars -
Yusuf Ali : Furthermore I call to witness the setting of the Stars―
Verse:076Abdul Daryabadi : And verily that is a mighty oath, if ye but knew!
Dr. Mohsin : And verily, that is indeed a great oath, if you but know.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And indeed it is a great oath, if you are to appreciate__
Pickthal : And lo! that verily is a tremendous oath, if ye but knew -
Yusuf Ali : And that is indeed a mighty adjuration if ye but knew―
Verse:077Abdul Daryabadi : That it is a Recitation honourable.
Dr. Mohsin : That (this) is indeed an honourable recitation (the Noble Qur'ân).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : It is surely the Noble Qur’an,
Pickthal : That (this) is indeed a noble Qur'an
Yusuf Ali : That this is indeed a Qur'an most honourable,
Verse:078Abdul Daryabadi : In a Book Hidden.
Dr. Mohsin : In a Book well-guarded (with Allâh in the heaven i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Recorded already) in a protected book (i.e. the Preserved Tablet)
Pickthal : In a Book kept hidden
Yusuf Ali : In a Book well-guarded,
Verse:079Abdul Daryabadi : Which none can touch except the purified.
Dr. Mohsin : Which (that Book with Allâh) none can touch but the purified (i.e. the angels).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : That is not touched except by the purified ones (the angels).
Pickthal : Which none toucheth save the purified,
Yusuf Ali : Which none shall touch but those who are clean:
Verse:080Abdul Daryabadi : It is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
Dr. Mohsin : A Revelation (this Qur'ân) from the Lord of the 'Alamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : A revelation from the Lord of the worlds.
Pickthal : A revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.
Yusuf Ali : A Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.
Verse:081Abdul Daryabadi : Is it this discourse that ye hold lightly?
Dr. Mohsin : Is it such a talk (this Qur'an) that you (disbelievers) deny?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Is it this discourse that you take lightly,
Pickthal : Is it this Statement that ye scorn,
Yusuf Ali : Is it such a Message that ye would hold in light esteem?
Verse:082Abdul Daryabadi : And make it your provision that ye should belie it?
Dr. Mohsin : And instead (of thanking Allâh) for the provision He gives you, you deny (Him by disbelief)!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And take your denial as your livelihood? [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : And make denial thereof your livelihood?
Yusuf Ali : And have ye made it your livelihood that ye should declare it false?
Verse:083Abdul Daryabadi : Wherefore then - when the soul cometh up to the wind-pipe -
Dr. Mohsin : Then why do you not (intervene) when (the soul of a dying person) reaches the throat?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So why (do you) not (intervene) when the soul (of a dying person) reaches the throat,
Pickthal : Why, then, when (the soul) cometh up to the throat (of the dying)
Yusuf Ali : Then why do ye not (intervene) when (the soul of the dying man) reaches the throat
Verse:084Abdul Daryabadi : And ye are then looking on.
Dr. Mohsin : And you at the moment are looking on,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And you are watching?
Pickthal : And ye are at that moment looking
Yusuf Ali : And ye the while (sit) looking on―
Verse:085Abdul Daryabadi : And We are nigher Unto him than ye are, but ye behold not-
Dr. Mohsin : But We (i.e. Our angels who take the soul) are nearer to him than you, but you see not, (Tafsir At-Tabarî)
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And We are closer to him than you, but you do not perceive.
Pickthal : - And We are nearer unto him than ye are, but ye see not -
Yusuf Ali : But We are nearer to him than ye, and yet see not
Verse:086Abdul Daryabadi : Wherefore then, if ye are not to be requited
Dr. Mohsin : Then why do you not, if you are exempt from the reckoning and recompense (punishment) —
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, if you are not going to be recompensed (in the Hereafter for your deeds), then why do you not
Pickthal : Why then, if ye are not in bondage (unto Us),
Yusuf Ali : Then why do you not if you are exempt from (future) account―
Verse:087Abdul Daryabadi : Cause ye it not to return, if ye say sooth?
Dr. Mohsin : Bring back the soul (to its body), if you are truthful?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Bring the soul back, if you are truthful? [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : Do ye not force it back, if ye are truthful?
Yusuf Ali : Call back the soul, if ye are true (in your claim of Independence)?
Verse:088Abdul Daryabadi : Then if he be of the broughtnigh.
Dr. Mohsin : Then, if he (the dying person) be of the Muqarrabûn (those brought near to Allâh),
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, in case he (the dying person) is from among those blessed with nearness,
Pickthal : Thus if he is of those brought nigh,
Yusuf Ali : Thus then, if he be of those Nearest to Allah,
Verse:089Abdul Daryabadi : For him shall be comfort, and fragrance and a Garden of Delight.
Dr. Mohsin : (There is for him) rest and provision, and a Garden of Delights (Paradise).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then (for him) there is comfort and fragrance and garden of bliss.
Pickthal : Then breath of life, and plenty, and a Garden of delight.
Yusuf Ali : (There is for him) Rest and Satisfaction, and a Garden of Delights.
Verse:090Abdul Daryabadi : And if he be of the fellows on the right hand,
Dr. Mohsin : And if he (the dying person) be of those on the Right Hand,
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And in case he is from among the People of the Right,
Pickthal : And if he is of those on the right hand,
Yusuf Ali : And if he be of the Companions of the Right Hand
Verse:091Abdul Daryabadi : Then: peace Unto thee, for thou art of those on the right hand.
Dr. Mohsin : Then there is safety and peace (from the Punishment of Allâh) for those on the Right Hand.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then, (it will be said to him,) “Peace is for you, as you are one of the People of the Right.”
Pickthal : Then (the greeting) "Peace be unto thee" from those on the right hand.
Yusuf Ali : (For him is the salutation) "Peace be unto thee", from the Companions of the Right Hand.
Verse:092Abdul Daryabadi : And if he be of the beliers, the erring,
Dr. Mohsin : But if he (the dying person) be of the denying (of the Resurrection), the erring (away from the Right Path of Islâmic Monotheism),
Mufti Taqi Usmani : But if he is one of the deniers, the astray,
Pickthal : But if he is of the rejecters, the erring,
Yusuf Ali : And if he be of those who treat (truth) as Falsehood, who go wrong
Verse:093Abdul Daryabadi : Then an entertainment of boiling water.
Dr. Mohsin : Then for him is entertainment with boiling water.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then (for him) there is entertainment from boiling water,
Pickthal : Then the welcome will be boiling water
Yusuf Ali : For him is Entertainment with Boiling Water,
Verse:094Abdul Daryabadi : And roasting in a Blaze.
Dr. Mohsin : And burning in Hell-fire.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And burning in the Hell.
Pickthal : And roasting at hell-fire.
Yusuf Ali : And burning in Hell-Fire.
Verse:095Abdul Daryabadi : Verily this! this is the very truth.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, this! This is an absolute Truth with certainty.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Indeed this is certainty in its true sense.
Pickthal : Lo! this is certain truth.
Yusuf Ali : Verily, this is the Very Truth and Certainty.
Verse:096Abdul Daryabadi : Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty!
