Verse:001Abdul Daryabadi : The Compassionate.
Dr. Mohsin : The Most Gracious (Allâh)!
Pickthal : The Beneficent
Yusuf Ali : (Allah) Most Gracious!
Verse:002Abdul Daryabadi : Hath taught the Quran.
Dr. Mohsin : He has taught (you mankind) the Qur'ân (by His Mercy).
Pickthal : Hath made known the Qur'an.
Yusuf Ali : It is He Who has taught the Qur'an.
Verse:003Abdul Daryabadi : He created man.
Dr. Mohsin : He created man.
Pickthal : He hath created man.
Yusuf Ali : He has created man:
Verse:004Abdul Daryabadi : He taught distinctness.
Dr. Mohsin : He taught him eloquent speech.
Pickthal : He hath taught him utterance.
Yusuf Ali : He has taught him speech (and Intelligence)
Verse:005Abdul Daryabadi : The sun and the moon are in a reckoning.
Dr. Mohsin : The sun and the moon run on their fixed courses (exactly) calculated with measured out stages for each (for reckoning).
Pickthal : The sun and the moon are made punctual.
Yusuf Ali : The sun and the moon follow courses (exactly) computed;
Verse:006Abdul Daryabadi : And the herbs and the trees do obe isance."
Dr. Mohsin : And the herbs (or stars) and the trees both prostrate themselves. (to Allah. See V.22:18). (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
Pickthal : The stars and the trees adore.
Yusuf Ali : And the herbs and the trees-both (alike) bow in adoration.
Verse:007Abdul Daryabadi : And the heaven! He hath elevated it, and He hath set the balance.
Dr. Mohsin : And the heaven He has raised it high, and He has set up the Balance.
Pickthal : And the sky He hath uplifted; and He hath set the measure,
Yusuf Ali : And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the balance (of Justice),
Verse:008Abdul Daryabadi : That ye should not trespass in respect of the balance.
Dr. Mohsin : In order that you may not transgress (due) balance.
Pickthal : That ye exceed not the measure,
Yusuf Ali : In order that ye may not transgress (due) balance.
Verse:009Abdul Daryabadi : And observe the weight with equity, and make not deficient the balance.
Dr. Mohsin : And observe the weight with equity and do not make the balance deficient.
Pickthal : But observe the measure strictly, nor fall short thereof.
Yusuf Ali : So establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance.
Verse:010Abdul Daryabadi : And the earth! He hath lain it out for the creatures.
Dr. Mohsin : And the earth He has put down (laid) for the creatures.
Pickthal : And the earth hath He appointed for (His) creatures,
Yusuf Ali : It is He Who has spread out the earth for (His) creatures:
Verse:011Abdul Daryabadi : Therein are fruit and palm-trees sheathed.
Dr. Mohsin : Therein are fruits, date-palms producing sheathed fruit-stalks (enclosing dates).
Pickthal : Wherein are fruit and sheathed palm-trees,
Yusuf Ali : Therein is fruit and date-palms, producing spathes (enclosing dates):
Verse:012Abdul Daryabadi : And grain chaffed and other food.
Dr. Mohsin : And also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-scented plants.
Pickthal : Husked grain and scented herb.
Yusuf Ali : Also corn with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder and sweet-smelling plants.
Verse:013Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord, will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:014Abdul Daryabadi : He created man of clay like, Unto pottery.
Dr. Mohsin : He created man (Adam) from sounding clay like the clay of pottery.
Pickthal : He created man of clay like the potter's,
Yusuf Ali : He created man from sounding clay like unto pottery,
Verse:015Abdul Daryabadi : And He created the Jinn of a flame of fire.
Dr. Mohsin : And the jinn He created from a smokeless flame of fire.
Pickthal : And the jinn did He create of smokeless fire.
Yusuf Ali : And He created Jinns from fire free of smoke:
Verse:016Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:017Abdul Daryabadi : He is Lord of the two easts and Lord of the two wests.
Dr. Mohsin : (He is) the Lord of the two easts (places of sunrise during early summer and early winter) and the Lord of the two wests (places of sunset during early summer and early winter).
Pickthal : Lord of the two Easts, and Lord of the two Wests!
Yusuf Ali : (He is) Lord of the two Easts and Lord of the two Wests:
Verse:018Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:019Abdul Daryabadi : He hath let loose the two seas.
Dr. Mohsin : He has let loose the two seas (the salt and the fresh water) meeting together.
Pickthal : He hath loosed the two seas. They meet.
Yusuf Ali : He has let free the two bodies of flowing water, meeting together:
Verse:020Abdul Daryabadi : In-between the twain is a barrier which they pass not.
Dr. Mohsin : Between them is a barrier which none of them can transgress.
Pickthal : There is a barrier between them. They encroach not (one upon the other).
Yusuf Ali : Between them is a Barrier which they do not transgress:
Verse:021Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:022Abdul Daryabadi : There come forth from the twain the pearl and the coral.
Dr. Mohsin : Out of them both come out pearl and coral.
Pickthal : There cometh forth from both of them the pearl and coral-stone.
Yusuf Ali : Out of them come Pearls and Coral:
Verse:023Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:024Abdul Daryabadi : His are the ships with elevated sails upon the sea like mountains.
Dr. Mohsin : And His are the ships going and coming in the seas, like mountains.
Pickthal : His are the ships displayed upon the sea, like banners.
Yusuf Ali : And His are the Ships sailing smoothly through the seas lofty as mountains:
Verse:025Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:026Abdul Daryabadi : Everyone that is thereon will Pass away.
Dr. Mohsin : Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish.
Pickthal : Everyone that is thereon will pass away;
Yusuf Ali : All that is on earth will perish;
Verse:027Abdul Daryabadi : And there will remain the countenance of thine Lord, Owner of Majesty and Beneficence
Dr. Mohsin : And the Face of your Lord full of Majesty and Honour will remain forever.
Pickthal : There remaineth but the Countenance of thy Lord of Might and Glory.
Yusuf Ali : But will abide (forever) the Face of thy Lord― full of Majesty, Bounty and Honour.
Verse:028Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord, will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:029Abdul Daryabadi : Of Him beggeth whosoever is in the heavens and the earth; every day He is in a new affair.
Dr. Mohsin : Whosoever is in the heavens and on earth begs of Him (its needs from Him). Every day He is (engaged) in some affair (such as giving honour or disgrace to some, life or death to some, etc.)!
Pickthal : All that are in the heavens and the earth entreat Him. Every day He exerciseth (universal) power.
Yusuf Ali : Of Him seeks (its needs) every creature in the heavens and on earth: every day in (new) Splendour doth He (shine)!
Verse:030Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:031Abdul Daryabadi : Anon We shall direct Our selves to you, O ye two classes.
Dr. Mohsin : We shall attend to you, O you two classes (jinn and men)!
Pickthal : We shall dispose of you, O ye two dependents (man and jinn).
Yusuf Ali : Soon shall We settle your affairs, O both ye worlds!
Verse:032Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:033Abdul Daryabadi : O assembly of Jinn and man! if ye be able to pass out of the regions of the heavens and the earth, then pass out; ye can not pass out except with authority.
Dr. Mohsin : O assembly of jinn and men! If you have power to pass beyond the zones of the heavens and the earth, then pass beyond (them)! But you will never be able to pass them, except with authority (from Allâh)!
Pickthal : O company of jinn and men, if ye have power to penetrate (all) regions of the heavens and the earth, then penetrate (them)! Ye will never penetrate them save with (Our) sanction.
Yusuf Ali : O ye assembly of Jinns and men! if it be ye can pass beyond the zones of the heavens and the earth, pass ye! Not without authority shall ye be able to pass!
Verse:034Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:035Abdul Daryabadi : There shall be sent against you both flame of fire and smoke, and ye shall not be able to defend yourselves.
Dr. Mohsin : There will be sent against you both, smokeless flames of fire and (molten) brass, and you will not be able to defend yourselves.
Pickthal : There will be sent, against you both, heat of fire and flash of brass, and ye will not escape.
Yusuf Ali : On you will be sent (O ye evil ones twain!) a flame of fire (to burn) and a smoke (to choke): no defence will ye have:
Verse:036Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:037Abdul Daryabadi : And when the heaven will be rent in sunder and will become rosy like Unto red hide.
Dr. Mohsin : Then when the heaven is rent asunder, and it becomes rosy or red like red-oil, or red hide — (See V.70:8|)
Pickthal : And when the heaven splitteth asunder and becometh rosy like red hide -
Yusuf Ali : When the sky is rent asunder, and it becomes red like ointment:
Verse:038Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie!
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? -
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:039Abdul Daryabadi : Of his sin will be questioned that Day neither man nor jinn.
Dr. Mohsin : So on that Day no question will be asked of man or jinni as to his sin, [because they have already been known from their faces either white (dwellers of Paradise - true believers of Islamic Monotheism) or black (dwellers of Hell - polytheists; disbelievers, criminals)].
Pickthal : On that day neither man nor jinni will be questioned of his sin.
Yusuf Ali : On that Day no question will be asked of man or Jinn as to his sin.
Verse:040Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:041Abdul Daryabadi : The culprits will be recognised by their marks, and will be lain hold of by the forelocks and the feet.
Dr. Mohsin : The Mujrimûn (polytheists, criminals, sinners) will be known by their marks (black faces), and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet.
Pickthal : The guilty will be known by their marks, and will be taken by the forelocks and the feet.
Yusuf Ali : (For) the sinners will be known by their Marks: and they will be seized by their forelocks and their feet.
Verse:042Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:043Abdul Daryabadi : Yonder is the Hell which the culprits belied.
Dr. Mohsin : This is Hell which the Mujrimûn (polytheists, criminals, sinners) denied.
Pickthal : This is Hell which the guilty deny.
Yusuf Ali : This is the Hell which the Sinners deny.
Verse:044Abdul Daryabadi : Going round between it and balling water fierce.
Dr. Mohsin : They will go between it (Hell) and the fierce boiling water!
Pickthal : They go circling round between it and fierce, boiling water.
Yusuf Ali : In its midst and in the midst of boiling hot water will they wander round!
Verse:045Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:046Abdul Daryabadi : And for him who dreadeth the standing before his Lord will be two Gardens.
Dr. Mohsin : But for him who fears the standing before his Lord, there will be two Gardens (i.e. in Paradise).
Pickthal : But for him who feareth the standing before his Lord there are two gardens.
Yusuf Ali : But for such as fear the time when they will stand before (the Judgment Seat of) their Lord, there will be two Gardens―
Verse:047Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:048Abdul Daryabadi : With spreading branches.
Dr. Mohsin : With spreading branches.
Pickthal : Of spreading branches.
Yusuf Ali : Containing all kinds (of trees and delights)―
Verse:049Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:050Abdul Daryabadi : In which, will be two fountains running.
Dr. Mohsin : In them (both) will be two springs flowing (free).
Pickthal : Wherein are two fountains flowing.
Yusuf Ali : In them (each) will be two Springs flowing (free);
Verse:051Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:052Abdul Daryabadi : In which will be of every fruit two kinds.
Dr. Mohsin : In them (both) will be every kind of fruit in pairs.
Pickthal : Wherein is every kind of fruit in pairs.
Yusuf Ali : In them will be Fruits of every kind, two and two.
Verse:053Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:054Abdul Daryabadi : Reclining on carpets whereof the linings will be of brocade; and the fruit of the two Gardens shall be near at hand.
Dr. Mohsin : Reclining upon the couches lined with silk brocade, and the fruits of the two Gardens will be near at hand.
Pickthal : Reclining upon couches lined with silk brocade, the fruit of both the gardens near to hand.
Yusuf Ali : They will recline on Carpets, whose inner linings will be of rich brocade: the Fruit of the Gardens will be near (and easy of reach).
Verse:055Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:056Abdul Daryabadi : Therein shall be those of refraining looks whom before them hath deflowered neither man nor jinn.
Dr. Mohsin : Wherein both will be Qasirat-ut-Tarf [chaste fmales (wives) restraining their glances, desiring none expect their husbands], with whom no man or jinni has had Tamth[] before them.
Pickthal : Therein are those of modest gaze, whom neither man nor jinni will have touched before them.
Yusuf Ali : In them will be (Maidens), chaste, restraining their glances, whom no man or Jinn before them has touched―
Verse:057Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of Your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:058Abdul Daryabadi : As though they are jacinth and coral.
Dr. Mohsin : (In beauty) they are like rubies and coral.
Pickthal : (In beauty) like the jacynth and the coral-stone.
Yusuf Ali : Like unto rubies and coral.
Verse:059Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:060Abdul Daryabadi : Shall the recompense of kindness be aught save kindness?
Dr. Mohsin : Is there any reward for good other than good?
Pickthal : Is the reward of goodness aught save goodness?
Yusuf Ali : Is there any Reward for Good other than Good?
Verse:061Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:062Abdul Daryabadi : And beside the two there will be two other Gardens.
Dr. Mohsin : And besides these two, there are two other Gardens (i.e. in Paradise).
Pickthal : And beside them are two other gardens,
Yusuf Ali : And besides these two, there are two other Gardens―
Verse:063Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain beli?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:064Abdul Daryabadi : Dark-green.
Dr. Mohsin : Dark green (in colour).
Pickthal : Dark green with foliage.
Yusuf Ali : Dark green in colour (from plentiful watering).
Verse:065Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:066Abdul Daryabadi : In which will be two fountains gushing forth.
Dr. Mohsin : In them (both) will be two springs gushing forth.
Pickthal : Wherein are two abundant springs.
Yusuf Ali : In them (each) will be two springs pouring forth water in continuous abundance:
Verse:067Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:068Abdul Daryabadi : In which will be fruit, the date-palm and pomegranate.
Dr. Mohsin : In them (both) will be fruits, and date- palms and pomegranates.
Pickthal : Wherein is fruit, the date-palm and pomegranate.
Yusuf Ali : In them will be Fruits, and dates and pomegranates:
Verse:069Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of Your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:070Abdul Daryabadi : Therein will be damsels agreeable and beauteous.
Dr. Mohsin : Therein (Gardens) will be Khairâtun-Hisân [fair (wives) good and beautiful].
Pickthal : Wherein (are found) the good and beautiful -
Yusuf Ali : In them will be fair (companions), good, beautiful―
Verse:071Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? -
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:072Abdul Daryabadi : Fair ones, confined in tents.
Dr. Mohsin : Hûr[] (beautiful, fair females) guarded in pavilions;
Pickthal : Fair ones, close-guarded in pavilions -
Yusuf Ali : Companions restrained (as to their glances), in (goodly) pavilions
Verse:073Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of Your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny? -
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favour of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:074Abdul Daryabadi : There hath deflowered them neither man nor jinn.
Dr. Mohsin : With Whom no man or jinni has had Tamth[] before them.
Pickthal : Whom neither man nor jinni will have touched before them -
Yusuf Ali : Whom no man or Jinn before them has touched―
Verse:075Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of Your Lord will ye twain belie?
Dr. Mohsin : Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinn and men) deny?
Pickthal : Which is it, of the favours of your Lord, that ye deny?
Yusuf Ali : Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?
Verse:076Abdul Daryabadi : Reclining upon cushions green and carpets beauteous.
Dr. Mohsin : Reclining on green cushions and rich beautiful mattresses.
Pickthal : Reclining on green cushions and fair carpets.
Yusuf Ali : Reclining on green Cushions and rich Carpets of beauty.
Verse:077Abdul Daryabadi : Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie?
