Verse:001
Abdul Daryabadi : Sad. By the Quran full of admonition.
Dr. Mohsin : Sâd [These letters (Sâd etc.) are one of the miracles of the Qur'ân and none but Allâh (Alone) knows their meanings]. By the Qur'ân full of reminding (explaination and honour for the one who believes in it).
Pickthal : Sad. By the renowned Qur'an,
Yusuf Ali : Sad. by the Qur'an, full of Admonition: (this is the Truth).


Verse:002
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily those who disbelieve are in vainglory and shism.
Dr. Mohsin : Nay, those who desbelieve are in false pride and opposition.
Pickthal : Nay, but those who disbelieve are in false pride and schism.
Yusuf Ali : But the Unbelievers (are steeped) in Self-glory and Separatism.


Verse:003
Abdul Daryabadi : How many a generation have We destroyed afore them, and they cried when there was not time of fleeing.
Dr. Mohsin : How many a generation We have destroyed before them, And they cried out when there was no longer time for escape!
Pickthal : How many a generation We destroyed before them, and they cried out when it was no longer the time for escape!
Yusuf Ali : How many generations before them did We destroy? In the end they cried (for mercy) when there was no longer time for being saved!


Verse:004
Abdul Daryabadi : And they marvel that there should come Unto them a warner from among themselves. And the infidels say: this is a magician and a liar!
Dr. Mohsin : And they (Arab pagans) wonder that a warner (Prophet Muhammad SAW) has come to them from among themselves! And the disbelievers say: "This (Prophet Muhammad SAW) is a sorcerer, a liar.
Pickthal : And they marvel that a warner from among themselves hath come unto them, and the disbelievers say: This is a wizard, a charlatan.
Yusuf Ali : So they wonder that a Warner has come to them from among themselves! And the Unbelievers say "This is a sorcerer telling lies!


Verse:005
Abdul Daryabadi : Maketh he the gods One God? Verily that is a thing astounding!
Dr. Mohsin : "Has he made the âlihah (gods) (all) into One Ilâh (God - Allâh). Verily, this is a curious thing!"
Pickthal : Maketh he the gods One God? Lo! that is an astounding thing.
Yusuf Ali : "Has he made the gods (all) into one God? Truly this is a wonderful thing!"


Verse:006
Abdul Daryabadi : The chiefs among them departed saying: go, and persevere in your gods; verily this is a thing designed.
Dr. Mohsin : And the leaders among them went about (saying): "Go on, and remain constant to your âliha (gods)! Verily, this is a thing designed (against you)!
Pickthal : The chiefs among them go about, exhorting: Go and be staunch to your gods! Lo! this is a thing designed.
Yusuf Ali : And the leaders among them go away (impatiently), (saying) "Walk ye away, and remain constant to your gods! For this is truly a thing designed (against you)!


Verse:007
Abdul Daryabadi : We heard not thereof in the later faith; this is naught but an invention.
Dr. Mohsin : "We have not heard (the like) of this in the religion of these later days (i.e. christianity). This is nothing but an invention! (Tafsir Al-Qurtabi)
Pickthal : We have not heard of this in later religion. This is naught but an invention.
Yusuf Ali : "We never heard (the like) of this among the people of these latter days: this is nothing but a made-up tale!


Verse:008
Abdul Daryabadi : Hath Unto him the admonition been sent down from amongst us! Yea! they are in doubt concerning My admonition. Yea! they have not yet tasted My torment.
Dr. Mohsin : "Has the Reminder been sent down to him (alone) from among us?" Nay! but they are in doubt about My Reminder (this Qur'ân)! Nay, but they have not tasted (My) Torment!
Pickthal : Hath the reminder been revealed unto him (alone) among us? Nay, but they are in doubt concerning My reminder; nay but they have not yet tasted My doom.
Yusuf Ali : "What! Has the Message been sent to him― (of all persons) among us?" But they are in doubt concerning My (own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment!


Verse:009
Abdul Daryabadi : Or, are with them the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord, the Bestower?
Dr. Mohsin : Or have they the treasures of the Mercy of your Lord, the All-Mighty, the Real Bestower?
Pickthal : Or are theirs the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord, the Mighty, the Bestower?
Yusuf Ali : Or have they the Treasures of the Mercy of thy Lord― the Exalted in Power, the Grantor of Bounties without measure?


Verse:010
Abdul Daryabadi : Or, is theirs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and that which is in-between the twain? If so, let them ascend by steps.
Dr. Mohsin : Or is it that the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them is theirs? If so, let them ascend up with means (to the heavens)!
Pickthal : Or is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them theirs? Then let them ascend by ropes!
Yusuf Ali : Or have they the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all between? If so, let them mount up with the ropes and means (to reach that end)!


Verse:011
Abdul Daryabadi : Here there is a host of the confederates only to be defeated.
Dr. Mohsin : (As they denied Allâh's Message) they will be a defeated host like the confederates of the old times (who were defeated).
Pickthal : A defeated host are (all) the factions that are there.
Yusuf Ali : But there― will be put to flight even a host of confederates.


Verse:012
Abdul Daryabadi : Before them there have belied the people of Nuh and the Aad, and Firawn the owner of the stakes.
Dr. Mohsin : Before them (were many who) belied (Messengers),— the people of Nûh (Noah); and 'Ad; and Fir'aun (Pharaoh) the man of stakes (with which he used to punish the people),
Pickthal : The folk of Noah before them denied (their messenger) and (so did the tribe of) A'ad, and Pharaoh firmly planted,
Yusuf Ali : Before them (were many who) rejected messengers, the People of Noah, and `Ad, and Pharaoh, the Lord of Stakes.


Verse:013
Abdul Daryabadi : And the Thamud, and the people of Lut, and the dwellers of the wood; these were the confederates.
Dr. Mohsin : And Thamûd, and the people of Lut (Lot), and the Dwellers of the wood; such were the confederates.
Pickthal : And (the tribe of) Thamud, and the folk of Lot, and the dwellers in the wood: these were the factions.
Yusuf Ali : And Thamud, and the People of Lut, and the Companions of the Wood;― such were the Confederates.


Verse:014
Abdul Daryabadi : There was not one but belied the apostles, wherefore justified was My wrath.
Dr. Mohsin : Not one of them but belied the Messengers, therefore My Torment was justified,
Pickthal : Not one of them but did deny the messengers, therefor My doom was justified,
Yusuf Ali : Not one (of them) but rejected the messengers, but My Punishment came justly and inevitably (on them).


Verse:015
Abdul Daryabadi : And these wait but for one shout, wherefrom there will be no deferment.
Dr. Mohsin : And these only wait for a single Saihah [shout (i.e. the blowing of the Trumpet by the angel Isrâfil)] there will be no pause or ending thereto [till everything will perish except Allâh (the only God full of Majesty, Bounty and Honour)].
Pickthal : These wait for but one Shout, there will be no second thereto.
Yusuf Ali : These (to-day) only wait for a single mighty Blast, which (when it comes) will brook no delay.


Verse:016
Abdul Daryabadi : And they say: our Lord! hasten our portion unto us before the Day of Reckoning
Dr. Mohsin : They say: "Our Lord! Hasten to us Qittana (i.e. our Record of good and bad deeds so that we may see it) before the Day of Reckoning!"
Pickthal : They say: Our Lord! Hasten on for us our fate before the Day of Reckoning.
Yusuf Ali : They say: "Our Lord! Hasten to us our sentence (even) before the Day of Account!"


Verse:017
Abdul Daryabadi : Bear thou with that which they say, and remember Our bondman, Da-ud, endured with strength; verily he was oft-returning onto Us.
Dr. Mohsin : Be patient (O Muhammad SAW) of what they say, and remember Our slave Dâwûd (David), endued with power. Verily, he was ever oft-returning in all matters and in repentance (toward Allâh).
Pickthal : Bear with what they say, and remember Our bondman David, lord of might, Lo! he was ever turning in repentance (toward Allah).
Yusuf Ali : Have patience at what they say, and remember Our Servant David, the man of strength: for he ever turned (to Allah).


Verse:018
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily We so subjected the mountains that they should hallow Us with him at nightfall and sunrise.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, We made the mountains to glorify Our Praises with him [Dâwûd (David)] in the 'Ashi (i.e. after the mid-day till sunset) and Ishrâq (i.e. after the sunrise till mid-day).
Pickthal : Lo! We subdued the hills to hymn the praises (of their Lord) with him at nightfall and sunrise,
Yusuf Ali : It was We that made the hills declare, in unison with him, Our Praises, at eventide and at break of day.


Verse:019
Abdul Daryabadi : And the birds also, gathering all oft-returning onto Him on his account.
Dr. Mohsin : And (so did) the birds assembled: all obedient to him [Dâwûd (David)] [i.e. they came and glorified Allah's Praises along with him]. (Tafsir Al-Qurtubi)
Pickthal : And the birds assembled; all were turning unto Him.
Yusuf Ali : And the birds gathered (in assemblies): all with him did turn (to Allah).


Verse:020
Abdul Daryabadi : And We made his dominion strong and vouchsafed him wisdom and decisive speech.
Dr. Mohsin : We made his kingdom strong and gave him Al-Hikmah (Prophethood) and sound judgement in speech and decision.
Pickthal : We made his kingdom strong and gave him wisdom and decisive speech.
Yusuf Ali : We strengthened his kingdom, and gave him wisdom and sound judgment in speech and decision.


Verse:021
Abdul Daryabadi : And hath the tidings of the contending parties reached thee, when they walled the apartment?
Dr. Mohsin : And has the news of the litigants reached you? When they climbed over the wall into (his) Mihrâb (a praying place or a private room,)
Pickthal : And hath the story of the litigants come unto thee? How they climbed the wall into the royal chamber;
Yusuf Ali : Has the Story of the Disputants reached thee? Behold, they climbed over the wall of the private chamber;


Verse:022
Abdul Daryabadi : When they went in unto Da-ud, he was frightened at them. They said: fear not we are two contending parties; one of us hath oppressed the other, so judge between us with truth, and be not iniquitious, and guide us unto the even path.
Dr. Mohsin : When they entered in upon Dâwûd (David), he was terrified of them, They said: "Fear not! (We are) two litigants, one of whom has wronged the other, therefore judge between us with truth, and treat us not with injustice, and guide us to the Right Way.
Pickthal : How they burst in upon David, and he was afraid of them. They said: Be not afraid! (We are) two litigants, one of whom hath wronged the other, therefor judge aright between us; be not unjust; and show us the fair way.
Yusuf Ali : When they entered to David, and he was terrified of them, they said: "Fear not: We are two disputants, one of whom has wronged the other: decide now between us with truth and treat us not with injustice, but guide us to the even Path.


Verse:023
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily this my brother hath nine and ninety ewes while I have one ewe; and he saith: entrust it to me, and he hath prevailed upon me in speech.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, this my brother (in religion) has ninety nine ewes, while I have (only) one ewe, and he says: "Hand it over to me, and he overpowered me in speech."
Pickthal : Lo! this my brother hath ninety and nine ewes while I had one ewe; and he said: Entrust it to me, and he conquered me in speech.
Yusuf Ali : "This man is my brother; He has nine and ninety ewes, and I have (but) one: Yet he says `Commit her to my care' and is (moreover) harsh to me in speech."


Verse:024
Abdul Daryabadi : Da-ud said: assuredly he hath wronged thee in demanding thine ewe in addition to his ewes, and verily many of the partners oppress each other save such as believe and work righteous works, and few are they. And Da-ud imagined that We had tried him; so he asked forgiveness of his Lord, and he fell down bowing and turned in penitence.
Dr. Mohsin : [Dâwûd (David)] said (immediately without listening to the opponent): "He has wronged you in demanding your ewe in addition to his ewes. And, verily, many partners oppress one another, except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and they are few." And Dâwûd (David) guessed that We have tried him and he sought Forgiveness of his Lord, and he fell down prostrate and turned (to Allâh) in repentance.
Pickthal : (David) said: He hath wronged thee in demanding thine ewe in addition to his ewes, and lo! many partners oppress one another, save such as believe and do good works, and they are few. And David guessed that We had tried him, and he sought forgiveness of his Lord, and he bowed himself and fell down prostrate and repented.
Yusuf Ali : (David) said: "He has undoubtedly wronged thee in demanding thy (single) ewe to be added to his (flock of) ewes: truly many are the Partners (in business) who wrong each other: not so do those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and how few are they?"... And David gathered that We had tried him: he asked forgiveness of his Lord, fell down, bowing (in prostration), and turned (to Allah in repentance).


Verse:025
Abdul Daryabadi : So We forgave him that; and verily for him is an approach with us, and a happy retreat.
Dr. Mohsin : So We forgave him that, and verily, for him is a near access to Us, and a good place of (final) return (Paradise).
Pickthal : So We forgave him that; and lo! he had access to Our presence and a happy journey's end.
Yusuf Ali : So We forgave him this (lapse): he enjoyed, indeed, a Near Approach to Us, and a beautiful place of (final) Return.


Verse:026
Abdul Daryabadi : O Da-ud! verily We have appointed thee a vicegerent in the earth, so judge between mankind with truth, and follow not desire, lest it cause thee to err from the path of Allah. Verily those who err from the path of Allah - Unto them shall be a severe torment, for they forgat the Day of Reckoning.
Dr. Mohsin : O Dâwûd (David)! Verily! We have placed you as a successor on earth, so judge you between men in truth (and justice) and follow not your desire for it will mislead you from the Path of Allâh. Verily! those who wander astray from the Path of Allâh (shall) have a severe torment, because they forgot the Day of Reckoning.
Pickthal : (And it was said unto him): O David! Lo! We have set thee as a viceroy in the earth; therefor judge aright between mankind, and follow not desire that it beguile thee from the way of Allah. Lo! those who wander from the way of Allah have an awful doom, forasmuch as they forgot the Day of Reckoning.
Yusuf Ali : O David! We did indeed make thee a vicegerent on earth: so judge thou between men in truth (and justice): nor follow thou the lusts, (of thy heart), for they will mislead thee from the Path of Allah: for those who wander astray from the Path of Allah, is a Penalty Grievous, for that they forget the Day of Account.


Verse:027
Abdul Daryabadi : And We have not created the heaven and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain in vain." That is the opinion of those who disbelieve. And woe Unto those who disbelieve the Fire."
Dr. Mohsin : And We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them without purpose! That is the consideration of those who disbelieve! Then woe to those who disbelieve (in Islâmic Monotheism) from the Fire!
Pickthal : And We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them in vain. That is the opinion of those who disbelieve. And woe unto those who disbelieve, from the Fire!
Yusuf Ali : Not without purpose did We create heaven and earth and all between! That were the thought of Unbelievers! But woe to the Unbelievers because of the Fire (of Hell)!


Verse:028
Abdul Daryabadi : Shall We make those who believe and work righteous works I i ke Unto the corrupters in the earth; Or Shall We make the God-fearing like Unto the wicked!
Dr. Mohsin : Shall We treat those who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh — Islâmic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, as Mufsidûn (those who associate partners in worship with Allâh and commit crimes) on earth? Or shall We treat the Muttaqûn (pious - see V.2:2), as the Fujjâr (criminals, disbelievers, the wicked)?
Pickthal : Shall We treat those who believe and do good works as those who spread corruption in the earth; or shall We treat the pious as the wicked?
Yusuf Ali : Shall We treat those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, the same as those who do mischief on earth? Shall We treat those who guard against evil, the same as those who turn aside from the right?


Verse:029
Abdul Daryabadi : This is a Book We have sent down Unto thee, blest, that they may ponder the revelations thereof, and that there may be admonished men of understanding.
Dr. Mohsin : (This is) a Book (the Qur'ân) which We have sent down to you, full of blessings that they may ponder over its Verses, and that men of understanding may remember.
Pickthal : (This is) a Scripture that We have revealed unto thee, full of blessing, that they may ponder its revelations, and that men of understanding may reflect.
Yusuf Ali : (Here is) a Book which We have sent down unto thee, full of blessings, that they may meditate on its Signs, and that men of understanding may receive admonition.


Verse:030
Abdul Daryabadi : And We vouchsafed Unto Da-ud Sulaiman. How excellent a bondman! I Verily he was oft-returning.
Dr. Mohsin : And to Dâwûd (David) We gave Sulaimân (Solomon). How excellent a slave! Verily, he was ever oft-returning in repentance (to Us)!
Pickthal : And We bestowed on David, Solomon. How excellent a slave! Lo! he was ever turning in repentance (toward Allah).
Yusuf Ali : To David We Gave Solomon (for a son)― how excellent in servant! Ever did he turn (to Us)!


Verse:031
Abdul Daryabadi : Recall what time there were presented Unto him, at eventide, s coursers swift-footed.
Dr. Mohsin : When there were displayed before him, in the afternoon, well trained horses of the highest breed [for Jihâd (holy fighting in Allâh's Cause)]
Pickthal : When there were shown to him at eventide lightfooted coursers
Yusuf Ali : Behold there were brought before him, at eventide, coursers of the highest breeding; and swift of foot;


Verse:032
Abdul Daryabadi : He said: verily I have loved the love of earthly good above the remembrance of my Lord until the sun hath disappeared behind the veil.
Dr. Mohsin : And He said: "I did love the good (these horses) instead of remembering my Lord (in my 'Asr prayer)" till the time was over, and (the sun) had hidden in the veil (of night).
Pickthal : And he said: Lo! I have preferred the good things (of the world) to the remembrance of my Lord; till they were taken out of sight behind the curtain.
Yusuf Ali : And he said "Truly do I love the love of good, with a view to the glory of my Lord"― Until (the sun) was hidden in the veil (of Night):


Verse:033
Abdul Daryabadi : Bring them back Unto me; and he set about slashing their legs and necks.
Dr. Mohsin : Then he said "Bring them (horses) back to me." Then he began to pass his hand over their legs and their necks (till the end of the display).
Pickthal : (Then he said): Bring them back to me, and fell to slashing (with his sword their) legs and necks.
Yusuf Ali : "Bring them back to me." Then began he to pass his hand over (their) legs and their necks.


Verse:034
Abdul Daryabadi : And assuredly We tried Sulaiman, and set upon his throne a mere body. Thereafter he was penitent.
Dr. Mohsin : And, indeed We did try Sulaimân (Solomon) and We placed on his throne Jasad (a devil, so he lost his kingdom for a while) and he did return (to Allâh with obedience and in repentance and to his throne and kingdom by the Grace of Allâh).
Pickthal : And verily We tried Solomon, and set upon his throne a (mere) body. Then did he repent.
Yusuf Ali : And We did try Solomon: We placed on his throne a body (without life): but he did turn (to Us in true devotion):


Verse:035
Abdul Daryabadi : He said: my Lord! forgive me, and bestow on me a dominion which no one may obtain beside me: verily Thou! Thou art the Bestower.
Dr. Mohsin : He said: "My Lord! Forgive me, and bestow upon me a kingdom such as shall not belong to any other after me: Verily, You are the Bestower."
Pickthal : He said: My Lord! Forgive me and bestow on me sovereignty such as shall not belong to any after me. Lo! Thou art the Bestower.
Yusuf Ali : He said "O my Lord! Forgive me, and grant me a Kingdom which (it may be), suits not another after me: for Thou art the Grantor of Bounties (without measure)."


Verse:036
Abdul Daryabadi : Then We subjected to him the wind: it ran gently by his command withersoever he directed.
Dr. Mohsin : So, We subjected to him the wind, it blew gently his order whithersoever he willed,
Pickthal : So We made the wind subservient unto him, setting fair by his command whithersoever he intended.
Yusuf Ali : Then We subjected the Wind to his power, to flow gently to his order, whithersoever he willed―


Verse:037
Abdul Daryabadi : And We subjected to him the evil ones: every builder and diver.
Dr. Mohsin : And also the Shayâtin (devils) from the jinn (including) every kind of builder and diver,
Pickthal : And the unruly, every builder and diver (made We subservient),
Yusuf Ali : As also the evil ones, (including) every kind of builder and diver―


Verse:038
Abdul Daryabadi : And others bound in fetters.
Dr. Mohsin : And also others bound in fetters.
Pickthal : And others linked together in chains,
Yusuf Ali : As also others bound together in fetters.


Verse:039
Abdul Daryabadi : This is Our gift, SO bestow thou or withhold, without rendering an account.
Dr. Mohsin : [Allâh said to Sulaimân (Solomon)]: "This is Our gift, so spend you or withhold, no account will be asked (of you)."
Pickthal : (Saying): This is Our gift, so bestow thou, or withhold, without reckoning.
Yusuf Ali : "Such are Our Bounties: whether thou bestow them (on others) or withhold them, no account will be asked."


Verse:040
Abdul Daryabadi : And verily for him is an approach with us, and a happy end.
Dr. Mohsin : And verily, for him is a near access to Us, and a good (final) return (Paradise).
Pickthal : And lo! he hath favour with Us, and a happy journey's end.
Yusuf Ali : And he enjoyed, indeed, a Near Approach to Us, and a beautiful Place of (final) Return.


Verse:041
Abdul Daryabadi : And remember thou Our bondman Ayyub, what time he cried Unto his Lord: verily the Satan hath touched me with affliction and suffering.
Dr. Mohsin : And remember Our slave Ayyûb (Job), when he invoked his Lord (saying): "Verily! Shaitân (Satan) has touched me with distress (by ruing my health) and torment (by ruing my wealth)!
Pickthal : And make mention (O Muhammad) of Our bondman Job, when he cried unto his Lord (saying): Lo! the devil doth afflict me with distress and torment.
Yusuf Ali : Commemorate Our servant Job, Behold he cried to his Lord: "The Evil One has afflicted me with distress and suffering"!


Verse:042
Abdul Daryabadi : Stamp the ground with thy foot. yonder is water to wash in, cool, and water to drink.
Dr. Mohsin : (Allâh said to him): "Strike the ground with your foot: This is (a spring of) water to wash in, cool and a (refreshing) drink."
Pickthal : (And it was said unto him): Strike the ground with thy foot. This (spring) is a cool bath and a refreshing drink.
Yusuf Ali : (The command was given:) "Strike with thy foot: here is (water) wherein to wash, cool and refreshing and (water) to drink."


Verse:043
Abdul Daryabadi : And We bestowed on him his household and along with them the like thereof, out of mercy from us, and a remembrance Unto men of understanding.
Dr. Mohsin : And We gave him (back) his family, and along with them the like thereof, as a Mercy from Us, and a Reminder for those who understand.
Pickthal : And We bestowed on him (again) his household and therewith the like thereof, a mercy from Us, and a memorial for men of understanding.
Yusuf Ali : And We gave him (back) his people and doubled their number― as a Grace from Ourselves, and a thing for commemoration, for all who have Understanding.


Verse:044
Abdul Daryabadi : And take in thine hand a handful of twigs, and strike therewith, and break not thine oath. Verily We! We found him patient. How excellent a bondman! Verily he was oft-returning.
Dr. Mohsin : "And take in your hand a bundle of thin grass and strike therewith (your wife), and break not your oath[] . Truly! We found him patient. How excellent (a) slave! Verily, he was ever oft-returning in repentance (to Us)!
Pickthal : And (it was said unto him): Take in thine hand a branch and smite therewith, and break not thine oath. Lo! We found him steadfast, how excellent a slave! Lo! he was ever turning in repentance (to his Lord).
Yusuf Ali : "And take in thy hand a little grass and strike therewith: and break not (thy oath)." Truly We found him full of patience and constancy: how excellent in Our service! Ever did he turn (to Us)!


Verse:045
Abdul Daryabadi : And remember thou Our bond men, Ibrahim and Is-haq and Yaqub. owners of might ana insight.
Dr. Mohsin : And remember Our slaves, Ibrâhim (Abraham), Ishâq (Isaac), and Ya'qûb (Jacob), (all) owners of strength (in worshipping Us) and (also) of religious understanding.
Pickthal : And make mention of Our bondmen, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, men of parts and vision.
Yusuf Ali : And commemorate Our servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, possessors of Power and Vision.


Verse:046
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily We! We distinguished them with a distinct quality: the remembrance of the Abode.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, We did choose them by granting them (a good thing,— i.e.) the remembrance of the home [in the Hereafter and they used to make the people remember it, and also they used to invite the people to obey Allâh and to do good deeds for the Hereafter].
Pickthal : Lo! We purified them with a pure thought, remembrance of the Home (of the Hereafter).
Yusuf Ali : Verily We did chose them for a special (purpose)--- remembrance of the Hereafter.


Verse:047
Abdul Daryabadi : And verily they are with us of the elect of the excellent ones
Dr. Mohsin : And they are with Us, verily, of the chosen and the best!
Pickthal : Lo! in Our sight they are verily of the elect, the excellent.
Yusuf Ali : They were, in Our sight, truly, of the company of the Elect and the Good.


Verse:048
Abdul Daryabadi : And remember Ismail and Al-Yasa and Zul-kifl: all of the excellent ones.
Dr. Mohsin : And remember Ismâ'il (Ishmael), Al¬Yasa'â (Elisha), and Dhul-Kifl (Isaiah), all are among the best.
Pickthal : And make mention of Ishmael and Elisha and Dhu'l-Kifl. All are of the chosen.
Yusuf Ali : And commemorate Ismail, Elisha, and Dhu al Kifl: each of them was of the company of the Good.


Verse:049
Abdul Daryabadi : This is an admonition, and verily for the God-feoring is a happy retreat:
Dr. Mohsin : This is a Reminder, and verily, for the Muttaqûn (pious and righteous persons - see V.2:2) is a good final return (Paradise), -,
Pickthal : This is a reminder. And lo! for those who ward off (evil) is a happy journey's end,
Yusuf Ali : This is a Message (of admonition): and verily, for the Righteous, is a beautiful place of (final) Return)―


Verse:050
Abdul Daryabadi : Gardens Everlasting, whereof the portals remain opened for them.
Dr. Mohsin : 'Adn (Edn) Paradise (everlasting Gardens), whose doors will be opened for them.
Pickthal : Gardens of Eden, whereof the gates are opened for them,
Yusuf Ali : Gardens of Eternity, whose doors will (ever) be open to them;


Verse:051
Abdul Daryabadi : Therein they will recline; therein they will call for plenteous fruit and drink.
Dr. Mohsin : Therein they will recline; therein they will call for fruits in abundance and drinks;
Pickthal : Wherein, reclining, they call for plenteous fruit and cool drink (that is) therein.
Yusuf Ali : Therein will they recline (at ease); therein can they call (at pleasure) for fruit in abundance and (delicious) drink;


Verse:052
Abdul Daryabadi : And with them will be virgins of refraining looks and of equal age.
Dr. Mohsin : And beside them will be Qasirat-at-Tarf chaste females (wives) restraining their glances (desiring none except their husbands)], (and) of equal ages.
Pickthal : And with them are those of modest gaze, companions.
Yusuf Ali : And beside them will be chaste women restraining their glances, (companions) of equal age.


Verse:053
Abdul Daryabadi : This it is that ye are promised for the Day of Reckoning.
Dr. Mohsin : This it is what you (Al-Muttaqûn - the pious. See V.2:2) are promised for the Day of Reckoning!
Pickthal : This it is that ye are promised for the Day of Reckoning.
Yusuf Ali : Such is the promise made to you for the Day of Account!


Verse:054
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily this is Our provision: there will be no ceasing thereof.
Dr. Mohsin : (It will be said to them)! Verily, this is Our Provision which will never finish;
Pickthal : Lo! this in truth is Our provision, which will never waste away.
Yusuf Ali : Truly such will be Our Bounty (to you); it will never fail―


Verse:055
Abdul Daryabadi : This: and verily for the exorbitant there shall be an evil retreat:
Dr. Mohsin : This is so! And for the Tâghûn (transgressors, disobedient to Allâh and His Messenger - disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh, criminals), will be an evil final return (Fire),
Pickthal : This (is for the righteous). And lo! for the transgressors there with be an evil journey's end,
Yusuf Ali : Yea, such!― But― for the wrongdoers will be an evil place of (final) Return!


Verse:056
Abdul Daryabadi : Hell, wherein they roast: a wretched couch.
Dr. Mohsin : Hell! Where they will burn, and worst (indeed) is that place to rest!
Pickthal : Hell, where they will burn, an evil resting-place.
Yusuf Ali : Hell! they will burn therein an evil bed (indeed to lie on)!―


Verse:057
Abdul Daryabadi : This - let them taste it: scalding water and corruption.
Dr. Mohsin : This is so! Then let them taste it, a boiling fluid and dirty wound discharges.
Pickthal : Here is a boiling and an ice-cold draught, so let them taste it,
Yusuf Ali : Yea such!― Then shall they taste it― a boiling fluid, and a fluid dark, murky intensely cold!―


Verse:058
Abdul Daryabadi : And other torments, like thereof, conjoined.
Dr. Mohsin : And other (torments) of similar kind — all together!
Pickthal : And other (torment) of the kind in pairs (the two extremes)!
Yusuf Ali : And other Penalties of a similar kind, to match them!


Verse:059
Abdul Daryabadi : This is a crowd rushing in along with you; no welcome for them; verily they are to roast in the Fire.
Dr. Mohsin : This is a troop entering with you (in Hell), no welcome for them! Verily, they shall burn in the Fire!
Pickthal : Here is an army rushing blindly with you. (Those who are already in the Fire say): No word of welcome for them. Lo! they will roast at the Fire.
Yusuf Ali : Here is a troop rushing headlong with you! No welcome for them! Truly, they shall burn in the Fire!


Verse:060
Abdul Daryabadi : They will say nay! it is ye, for whom there is no welcome: it is ye who have brought it upon us. Evil shall be the resting-place.
Dr. Mohsin : (The followers of the misleaders will say): "Nay, you (too)! No welcome for you! It is you (misleaders) who brought this upon us (because you misled us in the world), so evil is this place to stay in!"
Pickthal : They say: Nay, but you (misleaders), for you there is no word of welcome. Ye prepared this for us (by your misleading). Now hapless is the plight.
Yusuf Ali : (The followers shall cry to the misleaders:) "Nay, ye (too)! No welcome for you! It is ye who have brought this upon us! Now evil is (this) place to stay in!"


Verse:061
Abdul Daryabadi : They Will say: our Lord! whosever hath brought this upon us, - Unto him increase doubly the torment of the Fire.
Dr. Mohsin : They will say: "Our Lord! Whoever brought this upon us, add to him a double torment in the Fire!"
Pickthal : They say: Our Lord! Whoever did prepare this for us, oh, give him double portion of the Fire!
Yusuf Ali : They will say: "Our Lord! Whoever brought this upon us add to him a double Penalty in the Fire!"


Verse:062
Abdul Daryabadi : And they will Say: what aileth us that we behold not men whom we were wont to count among the evil ones?
Dr. Mohsin : And they will say: "What is the matter with us that we see not men whom we used to count among the bad ones?"
Pickthal : And they say: What aileth us that we behold not men whom we were wont to count among the wicked?
Yusuf Ali : And they will say: "What has happened to us that we see not men whom we used to number among the bad ones?


Verse:063
Abdul Daryabadi : Took we them so unjustly for a butt of mockery, or are they deluding our eyes?
Dr. Mohsin : Did we take them as an object of mockery, or have (our) eyes failed to perceive them?"
Pickthal : Did we take them (wrongly) for a laughing-stock, or have our eyes missed them?
Yusuf Ali : "Did we treat them (as such) in ridicule, or have (our) eyes failed to perceive them?"


Verse:064
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily this is the very truth: the wrangling of the fellows of the Fire!
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, that is the very truth, the mutual dispute of the people of the Fire!
Pickthal : Lo! that is very truth: the wrangling of the dwellers in the Fire.
Yusuf Ali : Truly that is just and fitting― the mutual recriminations of the People of the Fire!


Verse:065
Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: I am but warner, and there is no god but Allah, the One, the Subduer.
Dr. Mohsin : Say (O Muhammad SAW): "I am only a warner and there is no Ilâh (God) except Allâh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh) the One, the Irresistible,
Pickthal : Say (unto them, O Muhammad): I am only a warner, and there is no God save Allah, the One, the Absolute,
Yusuf Ali : Say: "Truly am I a Warner: no god is there but the Allah, the One, Supreme and Irresistible―


Verse:066
Abdul Daryabadi : Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, the Mighty, the Forgiver.
Dr. Mohsin : "The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving."
Pickthal : Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, the Mighty, the Pardoning.
Yusuf Ali : "The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all between Exalted in Might, Able to enforce His will, forgiving again and again."


Verse:067
Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: it is a tiding mighty.
Dr. Mohsin : Say: "That (this Qur'ân) is a great news,
Pickthal : Say: It is tremendous tidings
Yusuf Ali : Say: "That is a Message supreme (above all)―


Verse:068
Abdul Daryabadi : Ye are therefrom averting.
Dr. Mohsin : "From which you turn away!
Pickthal : Whence ye turn away!
Yusuf Ali : "From which ye do turn away!


Verse:069
Abdul Daryabadi : I had no knowledge of the chiefs on high when they disputed;
Dr. Mohsin : "I had no knowledge of the chiefs (angels) on high when they were disputing and discussing (about the creation of Adam).
Pickthal : I had no knowledge of the Highest Chiefs when they disputed;
Yusuf Ali : "No knowledge have I of the Chiefs on high, when they discuss (matters) among themselves.


Verse:070
Abdul Daryabadi : Naught is revealed Unto me except that I am a warner manifest.
Dr. Mohsin : "Only this has been revealed to me, that I am a plain warner."
Pickthal : It is revealed unto me only that I may be a plain warner.
Yusuf Ali : "Only this has been revealed to me: that I am to give warning plainly and publicly."


Verse:071
Abdul Daryabadi : Recall what time thy Lord said Unto the angels: verily I am about to create a human being from clay;
Dr. Mohsin : (Remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "Truly, I am going to create man from clay"
Pickthal : When thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am about to create a mortal out of mire,
Yusuf Ali : Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man from clay:


Verse:072
Abdul Daryabadi : Then when I have formed him and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down before him prostrate.
Dr. Mohsin : So when I have fashioned him and breathed into him (his) soul created by Me, then you fall down prostrate to him."
Pickthal : And when I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My Spirit, then fall down before him prostrate,
Yusuf Ali : "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him."


Verse:073
Abdul Daryabadi : The angels prostrated themselves, all of them.
Dr. Mohsin : So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them:
Pickthal : The angels fell down prostrate, every one,
Yusuf Ali : So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together;


Verse:074
Abdul Daryabadi : Not so lblis. He grew stiffnecked and became of the infidels.
Dr. Mohsin : Except Iblîs (Satan) he was proud[] and was one of the disbelievers.
Pickthal : Saving Iblis; he was scornful and became one of the disbelievers.
Yusuf Ali : Not so Iblis: he was haughty, and became one of those who reject Faith.


Verse:075
Abdul Daryabadi : Allah said: O Iblis! what preventeth thee from prostrating thyself before that which have created with both my hands? Becomest thou stiff-necked, or art thou of the exalted ones?
Dr. Mohsin : (Allâh) said: "O Iblîs (Satan)! What prevents you from prostrating yourself to one whom I have created with Both My Hands[]. Are you too proud (to fall prostrate to Adam) or are you one of the high exalted?"
Pickthal : He said: O Iblis! What hindereth thee from falling prostrate before that which I have created with both My hands? Art thou too proud or art thou of the high exalted?
Yusuf Ali : (Allah) said: "O Iblis! what prevents thee from prostrating thyself to one whom I have created with My hands? Art thou haughty? Or art thou one of the high (and mighty) ones?"


Verse:076
Abdul Daryabadi : He said: I am better than he: me Thou hast created of fire, and him Thou hast created of clay.
Dr. Mohsin : [Iblîs (Satan)] said: "I am better than he, You created me from fire, and You created him from clay."
Pickthal : He said: I am better than him. Thou createdst me of fire, whilst him Thou didst create of clay.
Yusuf Ali : (Iblis) said: "I am better than he: Thou createdst me from fire, and him Thou createdst from clay."


Verse:077
Abdul Daryabadi : Allah said: get thee forth therefrom verify thou art driven away.
Dr. Mohsin : (Allâh) said: "Then get out from here, for verily, you are outcast.
Pickthal : He said: Go forth from hence, for lo! thou art outcast,
Yusuf Ali : (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here: for thou art rejected, accursed.


Verse:078
Abdul Daryabadi : And verily My curse shall be on thee till the Day of Requital,
Dr. Mohsin : "And verily!, My Curse is on you till the Day of Recompense."
Pickthal : And lo! My curse is on thee till the Day of Judgment.
Yusuf Ali : "And My Curse shall be on thee till the Day of Judgement."


Verse:079
Abdul Daryabadi : He said: my Lord! respite me till the Day whereon they are raised up.
Dr. Mohsin : [Iblîs (Satan)] said: "My Lord! Give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are resurrected."
Pickthal : He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the Day when they are raised.
Yusuf Ali : (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised."


Verse:080
Abdul Daryabadi : Allah said: verily, thou art of those respited.
Dr. Mohsin : (Allâh) said: "Verily! You are of those allowed respite
Pickthal : He said: Lo! thou art of those reprieved
Yusuf Ali : (Allah) said: "Respite then is granted thee―


Verse:081
Abdul Daryabadi : Until the Day of the time appointed.
Dr. Mohsin : "Till the Day of the time appointed."
Pickthal : Until the Day of the time appointed.
Yusuf Ali : "Till the Day of the Time Appointed."


Verse:082
Abdul Daryabadi : He said: by Thy majesty, then, I shall surely seduce them, all.
Dr. Mohsin : [Iblîs (Satan)] said: "By Your Might, then I will surely mislead them all,
Pickthal : He said: Then, by Thy might, I surely will beguile them every one,
Yusuf Ali : (Iblis) said: "Then by Thy power, I will put them all in the wrong―


Verse:083
Abdul Daryabadi : Save Thy bondmen among them Sincere.
Dr. Mohsin : "Except Your chosen slaves amongst them (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islâmic Monotheism)."
Pickthal : Save Thy single-minded slaves among them.
Yusuf Ali : "Except Thy Servants amongst them, sincere and purified (by Thy grace)."


Verse:084
Abdul Daryabadi : Allah said: the truth is, and it is the truth that I speak,
Dr. Mohsin : (Allâh) said: "The Truth is,— and the Truth I say, —
Pickthal : He said: The Truth is, and the Truth I speak,
Yusuf Ali : (Allah) said: "Then it is just and fitting― and I say what is just and fitting―


Verse:085
Abdul Daryabadi : That I shall fill Hell with thee and such of them as shall follow thee, all together.
Dr. Mohsin : That I will fill Hell with you [Iblîs (Satan)] and those of them (mankind) that follow you, together."
Pickthal : That I shall fill hell with thee and with such of them as follow thee, together.
Yusuf Ali : "That I will certainly fill Hell with thee and those that follow thee--every one."


Verse:086
Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: ask of you for it no hire, nor am I of the affecters.
Dr. Mohsin : Say (O Muhammad SAW): "No wage do I ask of you for this (the Qur'ân), nor am I one of the Mutakallifûn (those who pretend and fabricate things which do not exist).
Pickthal : Say (O Muhammad, unto mankind): I ask of you no fee for this, and I am no impostor.
Yusuf Ali : Say: "No reward do I ask of you for this (Qur'an), nor am I a pretender.


Verse:087
Abdul Daryabadi : It is naught but an admonition Unto the worlds.
Dr. Mohsin : "It (this Qur'ân) is only a Reminder for all the 'Alamîn (mankind and jinn).
Pickthal : Lo! it is naught else than a reminder for all peoples
Yusuf Ali : "This is no less than a message to (all) the Worlds.


Verse:088
Abdul Daryabadi : And ye shall surely come to know the truth thereof after a season.
Dr. Mohsin : "And you shall certainly know the truth of it after a while."
Pickthal : And ye will come in time to know the truth thereof.
Yusuf Ali : "And ye shall certainly know the truth of it (all) after a while."
