Dr. Mohsin : Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: "We believe," and will not be tested
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Do people think that they will be left (at ease) only on their saying, “We believe” and will not be put to any test?
Pickthal : Do men imagine that they will be left (at ease) because they say, We believe, and will not be tested with affliction?
Yusuf Ali : Do men think that they will be left alone on saying "We believe" and that they will not be tested?

Verse:003
Abdul Daryabadi : And assuredly We have tempted those who were before them. So Allah will surely know those who are true and He will surely know the liars.
Dr. Mohsin : And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allâh will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allâh knows all that before putting them to test).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Indeed We have tested those who were before them. So Allah will surely know the ones who are truthful, and He will surely know the liars.
Pickthal : Lo! We tested those who were before them. Thus Allah knoweth those who are sincere, and knoweth those who feign.
Yusuf Ali : We did test those before them, and Allah will certainly know those who are true from those who are false.

Verse:004
Abdul Daryabadi : Or bethink those who work ill deeds that they shall outstrip Us? lll do they judge!
Dr. Mohsin : Or think those who do evil deeds that they can outstrip Us (i.e. escape Our Punishment)? Evil is that which they judge!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Or do those who commit evils think that they will outstrip Us? Evil is what they predicate.
Pickthal : Or do those who do ill-deeds imagine that they can outstrip Us? Evil (for them) is that which they decide.
Yusuf Ali : Do those who practise evil think that they will get the better of us? Evil is their judgment!

Verse:006
Abdul Daryabadi : And whosoever strive, striveth only for himself: verily Allah is Independent of the worlds.
Dr. Mohsin : And whosoever strives, he strives only for himself. Verily, Allâh stands not in need of any of the 'Alamîn (mankind, jinn, and all that exists).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Whoever strives, strives for his own benefit. Surely Allah is independent of all the worlds.
Pickthal : And whosoever striveth, striveth only for himself, for lo! Allah is altogether Independent of (His) creatures.
Yusuf Ali : And if any strive (with might and main), they do so for their own souls: for Allah is free of all needs from all creation.

Verse:007
Abdul Daryabadi : And whosoever believe and work righteous works, We shall purge away from them their ill-deeds and shall recompense them the best of that which they have been working.
Dr. Mohsin : Those who believe [in the Oneness of Allâh (Monotheism) and in Messenger Muhammad SAW , and do not give up their faith because of the harm they receive from the polytheists], and do righteous good deeds, surely, We shall expiate from them their evil deeds and shall reward them according to the best of that which they used to do.[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Those who believe and do righteous deeds, We will expiate their bad deeds and will give them a better reward (than their expectation) for what they used to do.
Pickthal : And as for those who believe and do good works, We shall remit from them their evil deeds and shall repay them the best that they did.
Yusuf Ali : Those who believe and work righteous deeds― from them shall We blot out all evil (that may be) in them and We shall reward them according to the best of their deeds.

Verse:008

Dr. Mohsin : And We have enjoined on man to be good and dutiful to his parents, but if they strive to make you join with Me (in worship) anything (as a partner) of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not. Unto Me is your return, and I shall tell you what you used to do.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : We have instructed man to do good to his parents. And if they insist upon you that you should ascribe partners to Me, then do not obey them. [QETafseerComment] To Me is your return; then I shall tell you what you used to do.

Verse:010
Abdul Daryabadi : Of mankind are some who say: we believe in Allah; then if they are afflicted in the way of Allah, they take the persecution of men even as the torment of Allah; and then, if succour cometh from thy Lord they say: verily we have been with you. Is not Allah the Best Knower of that which is in the breasts of the creatures?
Dr. Mohsin : Of mankind are some who say: "We believe in Allâh," but if they are made to suffer for the sake of Allâh, they consider the trial of mankind as Allâh's punishment, and if victory comes from your Lord, (the hypocrites) will say: "Verily! We were with you (helping you)." Is not Allâh Best Aware of what is in the breast of the 'Alamîn (mankind and jinn).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Among men there are those who say, “We believe in Allah”, but when they are persecuted in (the way of) Allah, they take the persecution of men, as equal to the punishment of Allah. And should any help come from your Lord, they will certainly say, “We were with you.” [QETafseerComment] Is it not that Allah knows well what lies in the hearts of the people of all the worlds?
Pickthal : Of mankind is he who saith: We believe in Allah, but, if he be made to suffer for the sake of Allah, he mistaketh the persecution of mankind for Allah's punishment; and then, if victory cometh from thy Lord, will say: Lo! we were with you (all the while). Is not Allah best aware of what is in the bosoms of (His) creatures?
Yusuf Ali : Then there are among men such as say "We believe in Allah"; but when they suffer affliction in (the cause of) Allah, they treat men's oppression as if it were the Wrath of Allah! and if help comes (to thee) from thy Lord they are sure to say "We have (always) been with you!" Does not Allah know best all that is in the hearts of all Creation?

Abdul Daryabadi : And surely Allah shall come to know those who believe, and surely He shall come to know the hypocrites.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, Allâh knows those who believe, and verily, He knows the hypocrites [i.e. Allâh will test the people with good and hard days to discriminate the good from the wicked although Allâh knows all that before putting them to test)].
Mufti Taqi Usmani : [QETafseerComment] Allah will certainly know those who believe and He will certainly know the hypocrites.

Mufti Taqi Usmani : They shall certainly bear their own loads, and some other loads along with their own loads, [QETafseerComment] and they will certainly be questioned about what they used to forge.
Pickthal : But they verily will bear their own loads and other loads beside their own, and they verily will be questioned on the Day of Resurrection concerning that which they invented.

Mufti Taqi Usmani : So We saved him and the people of the Ark, and made it a sign for all the worlds.

Mufti Taqi Usmani : You only worship idols beside Allah, and you invent a lie. In fact those whom you worship beside Allah do not have power to give you provision. So seek provision with Allah and worship Him and be grateful to Him. To Him you are to be returned.
Pickthal : Ye serve instead of Allah only idols, and ye only invent a lie. Lo! those whom ye serve instead of Allah own no provision for you. So seek your provision from Allah, and serve Him, and give thanks unto Him, (for) unto Him ye will be brought back.

Dr. Mohsin : "And if you deny, then nations before you have denied (their Messengers). And the duty of the Messenger is only to convey (the Message) plainly."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And if you reject me, then many nations have rejected their messengers before you. The messenger has no more obligation than to convey the message clearly.”

Mufti Taqi Usmani : We are going to bring down on the people of this town a punishment from the sky, because they used to act sinfully.”
Pickthal : Lo! We are about to bring down upon the folk of this township a fury from the sky because they are evil-livers.
Yusuf Ali : "For we are going to bring down on the people of this township a Punishment from heaven, because they have been wickedly rebellious."

Verse:035
Abdul Daryabadi : And assuredly We have left thereof manifest sign for a people who reflect.
Dr. Mohsin : And indeed We have left thereof an evident Ayâh (a lesson and a warning and a sign — the place where the Dead Sea is now in Palestine)[] for a folk who understand.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And We left from it (the town) an evident sign for a people who understand.
Pickthal : And verily of that We have left a clear sign for people who have sense.
Yusuf Ali : And We have left thereof an evident Sign, for any people who (care to) understand.

Verse:036
Abdul Daryabadi : And unto Madyan We sent their brother, Shuaib. He said: my people! worship Allah, and fear the Last Day, and commit not evil on the earth as corrupters.
Dr. Mohsin : And to (the people of) Madyan (Midian), We sent their brother Shu'aib (Shuaib). He said: "O my people! Worship Allâh, and hope for (the reward of good deeds by worshipping Allâh Alone, on) the last Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection), and commit no mischief on the earth as Mufsidûn (those who commit great crimes, oppressors, tyrants, mischief-makers, corrupters).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And (We sent) to Madyan their brother Shu‘aib. So he said, “O my people, worship Allah and fear the Last Day, and do not roam about in the land as mischief makers.”
Pickthal : And unto Midian We sent Shu'eyb, their brother. He said: O my people! Serve Allah, and look forward to the Last Day, and do not evil, making mischief, in the earth.
Yusuf Ali : To the Madyan (people) (We sent) their brother Shu'ayb. Then he said: "O my people! serve Allah, and fear the Last Day: nor commit evil on the earth with intent to do mischief."

Verse:037
Abdul Daryabadi : Then they belied him; wherefore an earthquake laid hold of them, and they lay in their dwellings, crouching.
Dr. Mohsin : And they belied him (Shu'aib); so the earthquake seized them, and they lay (dead), prostrate in their dwellings.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So they gave the lie to him, then they were seized by the earthquake and they remained in their homes lying on their faces. [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : But they denied him, and the dreadful earthquake took them, and morning found them prostrate in their dwelling place.
Yusuf Ali : But they rejected him: then the mighty Blast seized them, and they lay prostrate in their homes by the morning.

Verse:038
Abdul Daryabadi : And the Aad and Thamud and of a surety their destruction is apparent unto you from their dwellings. The Satan made fairseeming their works unto them, and so kept them off from the path, while they were endued with sight.
Dr. Mohsin : And 'Ad and Thamûd (people)! And indeed (their destruction) is clearly apparent to you from their (ruined) dwellings. Shaitân (Satan) made their deeds fair-seeming to them, and turned them away from the (Right) Path, though they were intelligent.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And (We destroyed) ‘Ad and Thamud, [QETafseerComment] and it is visible to you through their dwellings. And the Satan had beautified for them their deeds, so he prevented them from the (right) way, even though they were people of insight.
Pickthal : And (the tribes of) A'ad and Thamud! (Their fate) is manifest unto you from their (ruined and deserted) dwellings. Satan made their deeds seem fair unto them and so debarred them from the Way, though they were keen observers.
Yusuf Ali : (Remember also) the `Ad and the Thamud (people): clearly will appear to you from (the traces) of their buildings (their fate): the Evil One made their deeds alluring to them, and kept them back from the Path, though they were gifted with Intelligence and Skill.

Verse:039
Abdul Daryabadi : And Qarun and Firawn and Haman! And assuredly Musa came unto them with the evidences, yet they were stiff-necked in the land. And they could not outstrip Us.
Dr. Mohsin : And (We destroyed also) Qârûn (Korah), Fir'aun (Pharaoh), and Hâmân. And indeed Mûsa (Moses) came to them with clear Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), but they were arrogant in the land, yet they could not outstrip Us (escape Our punishment).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And (We also destroyed) Qarun [QETafseerComment] and Pharaoh and Haman. Indeed Musa came to them with clear signs; so they acted arrogantly on the earth, and were not (able) to escape.
Pickthal : And Korah, Pharaoh and Haman! Moses came unto them with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty), but they were boastful in the land. And they were not winners (in the race).
Yusuf Ali : (Remember also) Qarun, Pharaoh, and Haman: there came to them Moses with Clear Signs, but they behaved with insolence on the earth; yet they could not overreach (Us) .

Verse:040
Abdul Daryabadi : Wherefore each We laid hold of for his sin. Of them were some on whom We sent a violent wind; and of them were some - who were overtaken by a shout; and of them were some - with whom We sank the earth; and of them were some - whom We drowned. Allah was not such as to wrong them, but themselves they were wont to wrong.
Dr. Mohsin : So We punished each (of them) for his sins, of them were some on whom We sent Hâsib (a violent wind with shower of stones) [as on the people of Lut (Lot)], and of them were some who were overtaken by As¬Saihah [torment - awful cry, (as Thamûd or Shu'aib's people)], and of them were some whom We caused the earth to swallow [as Qârûn (Korah)], and of them were some whom We drowned [as the people of Nûh (Noah), or Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his people]. It was not Allâh Who wronged them, but they wronged themselves.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Thus We seized each one of them for his sin. So to some of them We sent a violent wind; and some of them were seized by a Cry; and some of them We made to sink in the earth; and some of them We drowned. And Allah was not to do injustice to them, but they used to do injustice to their own selves.
Pickthal : So We took each one in his sin; of them was he on whom We sent a hurricane, and of them was he who was overtaken by the (Awful) Cry, and of them was he whom We caused the earth to swallow, and of them was he whom We drowned. It was not for Allah to wrong them, but they wronged themselves.
Yusuf Ali : Each one of them We seized for his crime: of them, against some We sent a violent tornado (with showers of stones); some were caught by a (mighty) Blast; some We caused the earth to swallow up; and some We drowned (in the waters): it was not Allah Who injured (or oppressed) them: they injured (and oppressed) their own souls.

Verse:041
Abdul Daryabadi : The likeness of those who take other patrons than Allah is as the likeness of the spider who taketh unto herself a house. And verily the frailest of all houses is the spiders house - if they but knew!
Dr. Mohsin : The likeness of those who take (false deities as) Auliyâ' (protectors helpers) other than Allâh is the likeness of a spider, who builds (for itself) a house, but verily, the frailest (weakest) of houses is the spider's house; if they but knew.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : The example of those who have adopted patrons other than Allah is like the spider that has made a house, while indeed the weakest of houses is the house of the spider. If only they know.
Pickthal : The likeness of those who choose other patrons than Allah is as the likeness of the spider when she taketh unto herself a house, and lo! the frailest of all houses is the spider's house, if they but knew.
Yusuf Ali : The parable of those who take protectors other than Allah is that of the Spider, who builds (to itself) a house; but truly the flimsiest of houses― is the Spider's house if they but knew.

Verse:042
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily Allah knoweth whatsoever thing they invoke beside Him. And He is the Mighty, the Wise.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, Allâh knows what things they invoke instead of Him. He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Surely, Allah knows whatever thing they invoke beside Allah, and He is the Mighty, the Wise.
Pickthal : Lo! Allah knoweth what thing they invoke instead of Him. He is the Mighty, the Wise.
Yusuf Ali : Verily Allah doth know of (everything) whatever that they call upon besides Him: and He is Exalted (in power), Wise.

Verse:043
Abdul Daryabadi : And these similtudes! We propound them for mankind; and none understand them save men of knowledge.
Dr. Mohsin : And these similitudes We put forward for mankind, but none will understand them except those who have knowledge (of Allâh and His Signs).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : We site these examples for people, but no one understands them except the knowledgeable ones.
Pickthal : As for these similitudes, We coin them for mankind, but none will grasp their meaning save the wise.
Yusuf Ali : And such are the Parables We set forth for mankind, but only those understand them who have Knowledge.

Verse:044
Abdul Daryabadi : Allah hath created the heavens and the earth in truth; verily there in is a sign for the believers.
Dr. Mohsin : (Allâh says to His Prophet Muhammad SAW): "Allâh (Alone) created the heavens and the earth with truth (and none shared Him in their creation)." Verily! Therein is surely a sign for those who believe.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Allah has created the heavens and the earth with truth. Surely in this there is a sign for the believers.
Pickthal : Allah created the heavens and the earth with truth. Lo! therein is indeed a portent for believers.
Yusuf Ali : Allah created the heavens and the earth in true (proportions): verily in that is a Sign for those who believe.

Verse:045
Abdul Daryabadi : Recite thou that which hath been revealed unto thee of the Book and establish thou the prayer; verily prayer preventeth man from indecency and that which is disreputable: and surely the remembrance of Allah is the greatest. And Allah knoweth that which ye perform.
Dr. Mohsin : Recite (O Muhammad SAW) what has been revealed to you of the Book (the Qur'ân), and perform As-Salât (Iqamât¬as¬Salât). Verily, As-Salât (the prayer) prevents from Al-Fahshâ' (i.e. great sins of every kind, unlawful sexual intercourse) and Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism, and every kind of evil wicked deed)[] and the remembering[] (praising) of (you by) Allâh (in front of the angels) is greater indeed [than your remembering (praising) of Allâh in prayers. And Allâh knows what you do.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Recite (O Prophet) what is revealed to you of the Book, and establish Salah . Surely Salah restrains one from shameful and evil acts. Indeed remembrance of Allah is the greatest of all things. Allah knows what you do.
Pickthal : Recite that which hath been inspired in thee of the Scripture, and establish worship. Lo! worship preserveth from lewdness and iniquity, but verily remembrance of Allah is more important. And Allah knoweth what ye do.
Yusuf Ali : Recite what is sent of the Book by inspiration to thee, and establish Regular Prayer: for Prayer restrains from shameful and unjust deeds; and remembrance of Allah is the greatest (thing in life) without doubt. And Allah knows the (deeds) that ye do.

Verse:046
Abdul Daryabadi : And dispute not with the people of the Book unless in the best manner, save with those of them who do wrong; and say: we believe in that which hath been sent down unto us and that which hath been sent down unto you: our God and your God is One; and unto Him we are submissive.
Dr. Mohsin : And argue not with the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), unless it be in (a way) that is better (with good words and in good manner, inviting them to Islâmic Monotheism with His Verses), except with such of them as do wrong, and say (to them): "We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you; our Ilâh (God) and your Ilâh (God) is One (i.e. Allâh), and to Him we have submitted (as Muslims)."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Do not debate with the people of the Book unless it is in the best manner, except with those of them who commit injustice. And say, “We believe in what is sent down to us and sent down to you, and our God and your God is One, and to Him we submit (ourselves).”
Pickthal : And argue not with the People of the Scripture unless it be in (a way) that is better, save with such of them as do wrong; and say: We believe in that which hath been revealed unto us and revealed unto you; our God and your God is One, and unto Him we surrender.
Yusuf Ali : And dispute ye not with the People of the Book, except with means better (than mere disputation) unless it be with those of them who inflict wrong (and injury): but say "We believe in the Revelation which has come down to us and in that which came down to you; Our God and your God is one; and it is to Him we bow (in Islam)."

Verse:047
Abdul Daryabadi : And likewise have We sent down unto thee the Book; so those to whom We have vouchsafed the Book believe therein, and of those also some believe therein. And none gainsay Our signs save the infidels.
Dr. Mohsin : And thus We have sent down the Book (i.e this Qur'an) to you (O Muhammad SAW), and those whom We gave the Scripture [the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) aforetime] believe therein as also do some of these (who are present with you now like 'Abdullâh bin Salâm)[] and none but the disbelievers reject Our Ayât [(proofs, signs, verses, lessons, etc.), and deny Our Oneness of Lordship and Our Oneness of worship and Our Oneness of Our Names and Qualities: i.e. Islâmic Monotheism]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Thus We have sent down the Book to you. So those to whom We have given the Book believe in it. And from these (the people of Makkah) there are ones who believe in it, and no one rejects Our verses except the infidels.
Pickthal : In like manner We have revealed unto thee the Scripture, and those unto whom We gave the Scripture aforetime will believe therein; and of these (also) there are some who believe therein. And none deny Our revelations save the disbelievers.
Yusuf Ali : And thus (it is) that We have sent down the Book to thee. So the People of the Book believe therein, as also do some of these (pagan Arabs): and none but Unbelievers reject Our Signs.

Verse:048
Abdul Daryabadi : And thou hast not been reciting any book before it, nor hast thou been writing it With thine right hand, for then might the followers of falsehood have doubted.
Dr. Mohsin : Neither did you (O Muhammad SAW) read any book before it (this Qur'ân), nor did you write any book (whatsoever) with your right hand. In that case, indeed, the followers of falsehood might have doubted.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : You (O Prophet,) have never been reciting any book before this, nor have you been writing it with your right hand; had it been so, the adherents of falsehood would have raised doubts. [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : And thou (O Muhammad) wast not a reader of any scripture before it, nor didst thou write it with thy right hand, for then might those have doubted, who follow falsehood.
Yusuf Ali : And thou wast not (able) to recite a Book before this (Book came) nor art thou (able) to transcribe it with thy right hand: in that case, indeed, would the talkers of vanities have doubted.

Verse:049
Abdul Daryabadi : Aye! it in itself manifest signs in the breasts of those who have been vouchsafed knowledge, and none gainsay Our signs save the wrong-doers.
Dr. Mohsin : Nay, but they, the clear Ayât [i.e the description and the qualities of Prophet Muhammad SAW written in the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] are preserved in the breasts of those who have been given knowledge (among the people of the Scriptures). And none but the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrongdoers) deny Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.).[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : But it (the Qur’an in itself) is (a package of) evident signs in the hearts of those who are given knowledge. And no one rejects our verses except the wrongdoers.
Pickthal : But it is clear revelations in the hearts of those who have been given knowledge, and none deny Our revelations save wrong-doers.
Yusuf Ali : Nay, here are Signs self-evident in the hearts of those endowed with knowledge: and none but the unjust reject Our Signs.

Verse:050
Abdul Daryabadi : And they say: wherefore are not signs sent down upon him from his Lord! Say thou: signs are with Allah only, and I am but a manifest warner.
Dr. Mohsin : And they say: "Why are not signs sent down to him from his Lord? Say: "The signs are only with Allâh, and I am only a plain warner."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And they say, “Why is it that no signs (miracles) have been sent down to him from his Lord?” Say, “Signs are only with Allah, and I am only a plain warner.”
Pickthal : And they say: Why are not portents sent down upon him from his Lord? Say: Portents are with Allah only, and I am but a plain warner.
Yusuf Ali : Yet they say: "Why are not Signs sent down to him from his Lord?" Say: "The Signs are indeed with Allah: and I am indeed a clear Warner."

Verse:051
Abdul Daryabadi : Sufficeth it not for them that We have sent down unto thee the Book to be recited unto them? Verily herein is a mercy and an admonition for a people who believe.
Dr. Mohsin : Is it not sufficient for them that We have sent down to you the Book (the Qur'ân) which is recited to them? Verily, herein is mercy and a reminder (or an admonition) for a people who believe.[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Is it not sufficient for them that We have sent down to you the Book that is being recited to them? Surely in it there is mercy and advice for a people who believe.
Pickthal : Is it not enough for them that We have sent down unto thee the Scripture which is read unto them? Lo! herein verily is mercy, and a reminder for folk who believe.
Yusuf Ali : And is it not enough for them that We have sent down to thee the Book which is rehearsed to them? Verily in it is Mercy and Reminder to those who believe.

Verse:052
Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: Allah sufficeth for witness between me and you: He knoweth whatsoever is in the heavens and the earth. And they who believe in falsehood and disbelieve in Allah, those: they shall be the losers.
Dr. Mohsin : Say (to them O Muhammad SAW): "Sufficient is Allâh for a witness between me and you. He knows what is in the heavens and on earth." And those who believe in Bâtil (all false deities other than Allâh), and disbelieve in Allâh and (in His Oneness), it is they who are the losers.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Say, “Allah is enough as a witness between me and you. He knows what is in the heavens and the earth. And those who believe in falsity and do not believe in Allah,__those are the losers.
Pickthal : Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Allah sufficeth for witness between me and you. He knoweth whatsoever is in the heavens and the earth. And those who believe in vanity and disbelieve in Allah, they it is who are the losers.
Yusuf Ali : Say: "Enough is Allah for a Witness between me and you: He knows what is in the heavens and on earth. And it is those who believe in vanities and reject Allah, that will perish (in the end)."

Verse:053
Abdul Daryabadi : And they ask thee to hasten on the torment. And had not there been a term appointed, the torment would surely have come unto them. And surely it shall come upon them of a sudden while they perceive not.
Dr. Mohsin : And they ask you to hasten on the torment (for them), and had it not been for a term appointed, the torment would certainly have come to them. And surely, it will come upon them suddenly while they perceive not!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They ask you to bring the punishment soon. Had there not been an appointed time, the punishment would have come to them. It will surely come to them suddenly while they will not be aware.
Pickthal : They bid thee hasten on the doom (of Allah). And if a term had not been appointed, the doom would assuredly have come unto them (ere now). And verily it will come upon them suddenly when they perceive not.
Yusuf Ali : They ask thee to hasten on the Punishment (for them): had it not been for a term (of respite) appointed the Punishment would certainly have come to them: and it will certainly reach them― of a sudden, while they perceive not!

Verse:054
Abdul Daryabadi : They ask thee to hasten on the torment; and verily the Hell is about to encompass the infidels.
Dr. Mohsin : They ask you to hasten on the torment. And verily! Hell, of a surety, will encompass the disbelievers.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They ask you to bring the punishment soon, while the Jahannam is surely going to engulf the disbelievers
Pickthal : They bid thee hasten on the doom, when lo! hell verily will encompass the disbelievers
Yusuf Ali : They ask thee to hasten on the Punishment: but of a surety, Hell will encompass the rejecters of Faith!―

Verse:055
Abdul Daryabadi : On the Day whereon the torment shall cover them from above them and from underneath their feet, and He shall say: taste that which ye have been working!
Dr. Mohsin : On the Day when the torment (Hell-fire) shall cover them from above them and from underneath their feet, and it will be said: "Taste what you used to do."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : On the Day when the punishment will envelop them from above them and from under their feet and He (Allah) will say, “Taste what you used to do.”
Pickthal : On the day when the doom will overwhelm them from above them and from underneath their feet, and He will say: Taste what ye used to do!
Yusuf Ali : On the Day that the Punishment shall cover them from above them and from below them, and (a Voice) shall say: "Taste ye (the fruits) of your deeds!"―

Verse:056
Abdul Daryabadi : My bondmen, who believe! verily My earth is wide, so Me alone worship.
Dr. Mohsin : O My slaves who believe! Certainly, spacious is My earth. Therefore worship Me (Alone)." []
Mufti Taqi Usmani : O My servants who believe, surely My earth is vast. [QETafseerComment] So, Me alone you must worship.
Pickthal : O my bondmen who believe! Lo! My earth is spacious. Therefor serve Me only.
Yusuf Ali : O My servants who believe! Truly, spacious is My Earth: therefore serve ye Me (and Me alone)!

Verse:057
Abdul Daryabadi : Every soul shall taste of death; then unto Us ye shall be returned.
Dr. Mohsin : Everyone shall taste the death. Then unto Us you shall be returned.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Every person has to taste death, then to Us you are to be returned.
Pickthal : Every soul will taste of death. Then unto Us ye will be returned.
Yusuf Ali : Every soul shall have a taste of death: in the end to Us shall ye be brought back.

Verse:058
Abdul Daryabadi : And those who believe and work righteous works--them We shall surely settle in lofty dwellins of the; they shall be of the Garden whereunder the rivers flow; they shall be abiders therein. Excellent is the hire of the Workers.
Dr. Mohsin : And those who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh Islâmic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, to them We shall surely give lofty dwellings in Paradise, underneath which rivers flow, to live therein forever. Excellent is the reward of the workers.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : As for those who believe and do righteous deeds, We shall accommodate them in mansions of the Paradise beneath which rivers flow, where they will live forever. Excellent is the reward of the workers,
Pickthal : Those who believe and do good works, them verily We shall house in lofty dwellings of the Garden underneath which rivers flow. There they will dwell secure. How sweet the guerdon of the toilers,
Yusuf Ali : But those who believe and work deeds of righteousness― to them shall We give a Home in Heaven― lofty mansions beneath which flow rivers--to dwell therein for aye; an excellent reward for those who do (good)!―

Verse:059
Abdul Daryabadi : Who persevere and in their Lord trust!
Dr. Mohsin : Those who are patient, and put their trust (only) in their Lord (Allâh).[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Who observe restraint patiently and place their trust in their Lord alone.
Pickthal : Who persevere, and put their trust in their Lord!
Yusuf Ali : Those who persevere in patience, and put their trust in their Lord and Cherisher.

Verse:060
Abdul Daryabadi : And how many a moving creature there is that beareth not its provision! Allah provideth for it and for you. And He is the Hearer, the Knower.
Dr. Mohsin : And so many a moving (living) creature carries not its own provision! Allâh provides for it and for you. And He is the All-Hearer, the All¬Knower.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : How many an animal there is that does not carry its provision. Allah gives provision to it as well as to you, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-knowing.
Pickthal : And how many an animal there is that beareth not its own provision! Allah provideth for it and for you. He is the Hearer, the Knower.
Yusuf Ali : How many are the creatures that carry not their own sustenance? It is Allah Who feeds (both) them and you: for He hears and knows (all things).

Verse:061
Abdul Daryabadi : And wert thou to ask them.: who hath created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon they would surely say: Allah. How then are they deviating?
Dr. Mohsin : And If you were to ask them: "Who has created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon?" They will surely reply: "Allâh." How then are they deviating (as polytheists and disbelievers)?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : If you ask them as to who has created the heavens and the earth and has subjugated the sun and the moon, they will certainly say, “Allah”. How then are they driven aback (by their whims?)
Pickthal : And if thou wert to ask them: Who created the heavens and the earth, and constrained the sun and the moon (to their appointed work)? they would say: Allah. How then are they turned away?
Yusuf Ali : If indeed thou ask them who has created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon (to His Law); they will certainly reply "Allah." How are they then deluded away (from the truth)?

Verse:062
Abdul Daryabadi : Allah expandeth provision for whomsoever He Will of His bondmen and stinteth it for him. Verily Allah is of everything the Knower.
Dr. Mohsin : Allâh enlarges the provision for whom He wills of His slaves, and straitens it for whom (He wills). Verily, Allâh is the All¬Knower of everything.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Allah extends provision to whom He wills from His servants, and straitens it (for whom He wills). Surely Allah knows every thing well.
Pickthal : Allah maketh the provision wide for whom He will of His bondmen, and straiteneth it for whom (He will). Lo! Allah is Aware of all things.
Yusuf Ali : Allah enlarges the sustenance (which He gives) to whichever of His servants He pleases; and He (similarly) grants by (strict) measure, (as He pleases): for Allah has full knowledge of all things.

Verse:063
Abdul Daryabadi : And wert thou to ask them: who sendeth down water from the heaven, and therewith quickeneth the earth after the death thereof? they would surely say: Allah. Say thou: all praise unto Allah! Aye! most of them reflect not.
Dr. Mohsin : And If you were to ask them: "Who sends down water (rain) from the sky, and gives life therewith to the earth after its death?" they will surely reply: "Allâh." Say: "All the praises and thanks are to Allâh!" Nay! Most of them have no sense.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And if you ask them as to who sends down water from the sky, then revives the land with it, they will certainly say, “Allah”. Say, “Praise is for Allah.” But most of them do not understand.
Pickthal : And if thou wert to ask them: Who causeth water to come down from the sky, and therewith reviveth the earth after its death? They verily would say: Allah. Say: Praise be to Allah! But most of them have no sense.
Yusuf Ali : And if indeed thou ask them who it is that sends down rain from the sky, and gives life therewith to the earth after its death, they will certainly reply "Allah!" Say "Praise be to Allah!" But most of them understand not.

Verse:064
Abdul Daryabadi : And this life of the world is but: sport and play. Verily the home of the Hereafter--that is life indeed, if they but knew!
Dr. Mohsin : And this life of the world is only an amusement and play! Verily, the home of the Hereafter, that is the life indeed (i.e. the eternal life that will never end), if they but knew.[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : This worldly life is nothing but an amusement and play, and the Last Abode is the real life indeed. Only if they know!
Pickthal : This life of the world is but a pastime and a game. Lo! the home of the Hereafter - that is Life, if they but knew.
Yusuf Ali : What is the life of this world but amusement and play? But verily the Home in the Hereafter that is life indeed if they but knew.

Verse:065
Abdul Daryabadi : So When they mount upon the ships they call on Allah making pure for Him the religion, then when He delivereth them safely on the land, lo! they associate
Dr. Mohsin : And when they embark on a ship, they invoke Allâh, making their Faith pure for Him only, but when He brings them safely to land, behold, they give a share of their worship to others.[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So when they embark on a ship, they invoke Allah, having their faith purely in Him. But when He saves them (and brings them) to the land, in no time they start committing shirk (ascribing partners to Allah),
Pickthal : And when they mount upon the ships they pray to Allah, making their faith pure for Him only, but when He bringeth them safe to land, behold! they ascribe partners (unto Him),
Yusuf Ali : Now if they embark on a boat, they call on Allah, making their devotion sincerely (and exclusively) to Him; but when He had delivered them safely to (dry) land, Behold, they give a share (of their worship to others)!―

Verse:066
Abdul Daryabadi : So that they become ingrate for that which We have vouchsafed unto them, and that they enjoy themselves; but presently they shall know.
Dr. Mohsin : So that they become ingrate for that which We have given them, and that they take their enjoyment (as a warning and a threat), but they will come to know.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Thus becoming ungrateful for what We gave to them. Let them have some enjoyment, then they will soon come to know (the ill-fate of their attitude).
Pickthal : That they may disbelieve in that which We have given them, and that they may take their ease. But they will come to know.
Yusuf Ali : Disdaining ungratefully Our gifts, and giving themselves up to (worldly) enjoyment! But soon will they know.

Verse:067
Abdul Daryabadi : Behold they not that We have appointed an inviolable sanctuary, while men are being snatched away round about them? in falsehood then believe they, and unto the favour of Allah will they be ingrate?
Dr. Mohsin : Have they not seen that We have made (Makkah) a secure sanctuary, while men are being snatched away from all around them? Then do they believe in Bâtil (falsehood - polytheism, idols and all deities other than Allâh), and deny (become ingrate for) the Graces of Allâh?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Did they not see that We have made a peaceful sanctuary (Haram ) while (other) people around them are being snatched away? [QETafseerComment] Do they still believe in falsity and reject Allah’s grace?
Pickthal : Have they not seen that We have appointed a sanctuary immune (from violence), while mankind are ravaged all around them? Do they then believe in falsehood and disbelieve in the bounty of Allah?
Yusuf Ali : Do they not then see that We have made a Sanctuary secure, and that men are being snatched away from all around them? Then, do they believe in that which is vain and reject the Grace of Allah?

Verse:068
Abdul Daryabadi : And who is a greater wrong-doer than he who fabricateth a lie against Allah or belieth the truth when it cometh unto him Will there not be in the Hell an abiding-place for the infidels?
Dr. Mohsin : And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie against Allâh or denies the truth (Muhammad SAW and his doctrine of Islâmic Monotheism and this Qur'ân), when it comes to him? Is there not a dwelling in Hell for disbelievers (in the Oneness of Allâh and in His Messenger Muhammad SAW)?[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Who is more unjust than the one who forges a lie against Allah or rejects the truth when it comes to him? Is there not in Jahannam a home for disbelievers?
Pickthal : Who doeth greater wrong than he who inventeth a lie concerning Allah, or denieth the truth when it cometh unto him? Is not there a home in hell for disbelievers?
Yusuf Ali : And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie against Allah or rejects the Truth when it reaches Him? Is there not a home in Hell for those who reject Faith?

Verse:069
Abdul Daryabadi : And those who strive hard in us, We shall surely guide them in Our paths; verily Allah is with the welldoers.
Dr. Mohsin : As for those who strive hard in Us (Our Cause), We will surely guide them to Our Paths (i.e. Allâh's religion - Islâmic Monotheism). And verily, Allâh is with the Muhsinûn (good doers)."[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : As for those who strive in Our way, We will certainly take them onto Our paths, [QETafseerComment] and indeed Allah is with those who are good in deeds.
Pickthal : As for those who strive in Us, We surely guide them to Our paths, and lo! Allah is with the good.
Yusuf Ali : And those who strive in Our (Cause)― We will certainly guide them to Our Paths: for verily Allah is with those who do right.
