Verse:002
Abdul Daryabadi : It is a matter of wonderment to the mankind that we should reveal unto a man among them saying: warn thou the man kind, and bear those who have believed the glad tidings that theirs shall be a sure footing. with their Lord! The infidels say: verily this in a sorcerer manifest.
Dr. Mohsin : Is it wonder for mankind that We have sent Our Revelation[] to a man from among themselves (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW) (saying): "Warn mankind (of the coming torment in Hell), and give good news to those who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh and in His Prophet Muhammad SAW) that they shall have with their Lord the rewards of their good deeds?" (But) the disbelievers say: "This is indeed an evident sorcerer (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW and the Qur'ân)!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Is it surprising for the people that We have sent the divine revelation to a man from among them to direct him that he should warn the people (who are heedless), and give happy news to those who believe that they will have a truly excellent footing at a place near their Lord? The disbelievers said, “Surely, he is an open sorcerer.”
Pickthal : Is it a wonder for mankind that We have inspired a man among them, saying: Warn mankind and bring unto those who believe the good tidings that they have a sure footing with their Lord? The disbelievers say: Lo! this is a mere wizard.
Yusuf Ali : It is a matter of wonderment to men that We have set Our inspiration to a man from among themselves? that he should warn mankind (of their danger), and give the good news to the Believers that they have before their Lord the lofty rank of Truth (but) say the Unbelievers: "This is indeed an evident sorcerer!"

Verse:003
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily your Lord is Allah who hath created the heavens and the earth in six days, then established Himself on the Throne disposing the affair; no in tercessor is there, except after His leave. That is Allah, your Lord; so worship Him. Would ye then not be admonished!
Dr. Mohsin : Surely, your Lord is Allâh Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days and then rose over (Istawâ) the Throne (really in a manner that suits His Majesty), disposing the affair of all things. No intercessor (can plead with Him) except after His Leave. That is Allâh, your Lord; so worship Him (Alone). Then, will you not remember?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Surely, your Lord is Allah, the One who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and then He positioned Himself on the Throne.[QETafseerComment] He governs all affairs (of His creation). There is no one who could intercede before Him, except after His permission. [QETafseerComment] That is Allah, your Lord. So, worship Him. Would you still pay no heed?
Pickthal : Lo! your Lord is Allah Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days, then He established Himself upon the Throne, directing all things. There is no intercessor (with Him) save after His permission. That is Allah, your Lord, so worship Him. Oh, will ye not remind?
Yusuf Ali : Verily your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days, then He established Himself on the Throne (of authority), regulating and governing all things. No intercessor (can plead with Him) except after His leave (hath been obtained). This is Allah your Lord; Him therefore serve ye: will ye not receive admonition?

Verse:004
Abdul Daryabadi : Unto Him is the return of you all--the promise of Allah is truth. Verily He beginneth the creation, then He shall repeat it, that he may recompense those who believed and did righteous works with equity. And those who disbelieved -- for them shall be draught of boiling water and a torment afflictive for they were wont to disbelieve.
Dr. Mohsin : To Him is the return of all of you. The Promise of Allâh is true. It is He Who begins the creation and then will repeat it, that He may reward with justice those who believed (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism) and did deeds of righteousness. But those who disbelieved will have a drink of boiling fluids and painful torment because they used to disbelieve.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Towards Him all of you have to return, this being a true promise from Allah. Surely, He originates the creation; then He will bring it again, so that He may justly reward those who believe and do good deeds. As for those who disbelieve, for them there is a drink of boiling water and a painful punishment, because they used to be infidels.
Pickthal : Unto Him is the return of all of you; it is a promise of Allah in truth. Lo! He produceth creation, then reproduceth it, that He may reward those who believe and do good works with equity; while, as for those who disbelieve, theirs will be a boiling drink and painful doom because they disbelieved.
Yusuf Ali : To Him will be your return― of all of you. The promise of Allah is true and sure. It is He Who beginneth the process of Creation, and repeateth it, that He may reward with justice those who believe and work righteousness? but those who reject Him will have draughts of boiling fluids, and a Penalty grievous: because they did reject Him.

Verse:005
Abdul Daryabadi : He it is who hath made the sun a glow and the moon a light, and hath determined mansions for her that ye may know the number of the years and the reckoning Allah hath not created all this except with a purpose; He detaileth these signs unto those who know.
Dr. Mohsin : It is He Who made the sun a shining thing and the moon as a light and measured out for it stages, that you might know the number of years and the reckoning. Allâh did not create this but in truth. He explains the Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail for people who have knowledge.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : He is the One who has made the sun a glow, and the moon a light, and determined for it stages, so that you may learn the number of the years, and the calculation (of time). Allah has not created all this but for a rightful purpose. [QETafseerComment] He elaborates the signs for a people who understand.
Pickthal : He it is Who appointed the sun a splendour and the moon a light, and measured for her stages, that ye might know the number of the years, and the reckoning. Allah created not (all) that save in truth. He detaileth the revelations for people who have knowledge.
Yusuf Ali : It is He Who made the sun to be a shining glory and the moon to be a light (of beauty), and measured out stages for it: that ye might know the number of years and the count (of time). No wise did Allah create this but in truth and righteousness. (Thus) doth He explain His Signs in detail, for those who understand.

Verse:006
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily in the alteration of he night and the day and in that which Allah hath created in the heavens and the earth are surely signs unto a people who fear.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, in the alternation of the night and the day and in all that Allâh has created in the heavens and the earth are Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) for those people who keep their duty to Allâh, and fear Him much.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Surely, in the alternation of night and day and in what Allah has created in the heavens and the earth, there are signs for a people who are God-fearing.
Pickthal : Lo! in the difference of day and night and all that Allah hath created in the heavens and the earth are portents, verily, for folk who ward off (evil).
Yusuf Ali : Verily, in the alternation of the Night and the Day, and in all that Allah hath created in the heavens and the earth, are Signs for those who fear Him.

Verse:007
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily those who hope not for meeting with us, and, well-pleased with the life of the world, and are satisfied therewith, and those who are neglectful of our signs.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, those who hope not for their meeting with Us, but are pleased and satisfied with the life of the present world, and those who are heedless of Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.),
Mufti Taqi Usmani : As for those who do not believe in meeting Us and are quite happy with the life of this world and are content with it, and those who are heedless to Our signs,
Pickthal : Lo! those who expect not the meeting with Us but desire the life of the world and feel secure therein, and those who are neglectful of Our revelations,
Yusuf Ali : Those who rest not their hope on their meeting with Us, but are pleased and satisfied with the life of the present, and those who heed not Our Signs―

Verse:008
Abdul Daryabadi : These! their abode shall be the Fire, for that which they have been earning.
Dr. Mohsin : Those, their abode will be the Fire, because of what they used to earn.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They are the ones whose abode is the Fire, because of what they used to earn for themselves.
Pickthal : Their home will be the Fire because of what they used to earn.
Yusuf Ali : Their abode is the Fire because of the (evil) they earned.

Verse:009
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily those who believe and do righteous works, their Lord will guide them because of their faith. Beneath them will flow rivers in Gardens of Delight.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, those who believe and do deeds of righteousness, their Lord will guide them through their Faith; under them will flow rivers in the Gardens of Delight (Paradise).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : As for those who believe and do good deeds, their Lord will guide them by virtue of their belief; rivers will be flowing beneath them in the Gardens of Bliss.
Pickthal : Lo! those who believe and do good works, their Lord guideth them by their faith. Rivers will flow beneath them in the Gardens of Delight,
Yusuf Ali : Those who believe, and work righteousness their Lord will guide them because of their Faith: beneath them will flow rivers in Gardens of Bliss.

Verse:010
Abdul Daryabadi : Their cry therein will be: hallowed be Thou! O Allah! and their greeting therein: peace! And the end of their Cry Will be: all praise unto Allah, the Lord of the worlds
Dr. Mohsin : Their way of request therein will be Subhânaka Allâhumma (Glory to You, O Allâh!) and Salâm (peace, safety from evil) will be their greetings therein (Paradise)! and the close of their request will be: Al-Hamdu Lillâhi Rabbil-'Alamîn [All the praises and thanks are to Allâh, the Lord of 'Alamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists)].
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Their call therein will be, “Pure are You, O Allah” and their greeting therein will be Salam . And the end of their call will be, “Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.”
Pickthal : Their prayer therein will be: Glory be to Thee, O Allah! and their greeting therein will be: Peace. And the conclusion of their prayer will be: Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds!
Yusuf Ali : (This will be) their cry therein: "Glory to Thee O Allah!" and "Peace" will be their greeting therein! And the close of their cry will be: "Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the Worlds!"

Verse:011
Abdul Daryabadi : And were Allah to hasten the ill unto mankind as their desire for hastening the good, their term would surely have been decreed unto them. So we let alone those who hope not for the meeting with Us, wandering in their exorbitance perplexed.
Dr. Mohsin : And were Allâh to hasten for mankind the evil (they invoke for themselves and for their children, while in a state of anger) as He hastens for them the good (they invoke) then they would have been ruined. So We leave those who expect not their meeting with Us, in their trespasses, wandering blindly in distraction. (Tafsir At-Tabarî).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And if Allah were to hasten in sending evil to the people, as they hasten in seeking good, their time would have been all over. [QETafseerComment] So, We leave alone those who do not believe in meeting Us to wander blindly in their rebellion.
Pickthal : If Allah were to hasten on for men the ill (that they have earned) as they would hasten on the good, their respite would already have expired. But We suffer those who look not for the meeting with Us to wander blindly on in their contumacy.
Yusuf Ali : If Allah were to hasten for men the ill (they have earned) as they would fain hasten on the good then would their respite be settled at once. But We leave those who rest not their hope of their meeting with Us, in their trespasses, wandering in distraction to and fro.

Verse:012
Abdul Daryabadi : And when harm toucheth man, he calleth us on his side, or sitting or standing; then when We have removed his harm from him, he passeth on as though he had never called Us to a harm that touched him. In this wise is made fairseeming unto the extravagant that which they have been working.
Dr. Mohsin : And when harm touches man, he invokes Us, lying down on his side, or sitting or standing. But when We have removed his harm from him, he passes on as if he had never invoked Us for a harm that touched him! Thus it is made fair-seeming to the Musrifûn[] that which they used to do.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : When man is afflicted by a hardship, he prays to Us (at all times), when reclining or sitting or standing. But when We remove his hardship, he just takes his way as though he had never prayed to Us in any hardship that afflicted him. This is how their deeds appear beautified to the transgressors.
Pickthal : And if misfortune touch a man he crieth unto Us, (while reclining) on his side, or sitting or standing, but when We have relieved him of the misfortune he goeth his way as though he had not cried unto Us because of a misfortune that afflicted him. Thus have the deeds of the transgressores been made fair-seeming unto the prodigal.
Yusuf Ali : When trouble toucheth a man, he crieth unto Us (in all postures)― lying down on his side, or sitting or standing. But when We have solved his trouble, he passeth on his way as if he had never cried to Us for a trouble that touched him! Thus do the deeds of transgressors seem fair in their eyes!

Verse:013
Abdul Daryabadi : And assuredly We have destroyed the generations before you when they did wrong, while their apostles came unto them with the evidences, and they were not such as to believe. In this wise We requite the sinning people.
Dr. Mohsin : And indeed, We destroyed generations before you, when they did wrong while their Messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they were not such as to believe! Thus do We requite the people who are Mujrimûn (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Indeed We have destroyed generations before you when they transgressed, and their Messengers had come to them with clear signs, but they were not the ones who would believe. This is how We punish the guilty people.
Pickthal : We destroyed the generations before you when they did wrong; and their messengers (from Allah) came unto them with clear proofs (of His Sovereignty) but they would not believe. Thus do We reward the guilty folk.
Yusuf Ali : Generations before you We destroyed when they did wrong: their Messengers came to them with Clear Signs, but they would not believe! Thus do We requite those who sin!

Verse:014
Abdul Daryabadi : Then We appointed you as successors in the land after them, that We might see how ye would work.
Dr. Mohsin : Then We made you successors after them, generations after generations in the land, that We might see how you would work.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then We made you (their) successors in the land after them, so that We see how you would act.
Pickthal : Then We appointed you viceroys in the earth after them, that We might see how ye behave.
Yusuf Ali : Then We made you heirs in the land after them, to see how ye would behave!

Verse:015
Abdul Daryabadi : And whenever Our manifest revelations are rehearsed unto them, those who hope not for the meeting with Us, say: bring us a Quran other than this, or change it. Say thou: it lieth not with me to change it of my own accord; I only follow that which is Revealed unto me; verily I fear, if I disobey my Lord, the torment of the Mighty Day.
Dr. Mohsin : And when Our Clear Verses are recited unto them, those who hope not for their meeting with Us, say: Bring us a Qur'ân other than this, or change it."Say (O Muhammad SAW): "It is not for me to change it on my own accord; I only follow that which is revealed unto me. Verily, I fear the torment of the Great Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection). if I were to disobey my Lord."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : When Our verses are recited to them in all their clarity, say those who do not believe in meeting Us, “Bring a Qur’an other than this, or make changes in it (to suit our fancies)”. Say, “It is not possible for me to make changes in it on my own. I follow nothing but what is revealed to me. If I disobey my Lord, I fear the punishment of a terrible day.”
Pickthal : And when Our clear revelations are recited unto them, they who look not for the meeting with Us say: Bring a Lecture other than this, or change it. Say (O Muhammad): It is not for me to change it of my own accord. I only follow that which is inspired in me. Lo! if I disobey my Lord I fear the retribution of an awful Day.
Yusuf Ali : But when Our Clear Signs are rehearsed unto them those who rest not their hope on their meeting with Us, say: "Bring us a Reading other than this or change this." Say: "It is not for me, of my own accord to change it: I follow naught but what is revealed unto me: if I were to disobey my Lord, I should myself fear the Penalty of a Great Day (to come)."

Verse:016
Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: had Allah so willed. Would not have rehearsed it unto you, nor would He have acquainted you therewith. Of a surety I have tarried among you a lifetime before it. Would ye not then reflect?
Dr. Mohsin : Say (O Muhammad SAW): "If Allâh had so willed, I should not have recited it to you nor would He have made it known to you. Verily, I have stayed amongst you a life time before this. Have you then no sense?"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Say, “Had Allah so willed, I would have not recited it to you, nor would He have let you know it. Then, I have lived among you for years before it. Have you, then, no sense?” [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : Say: If Allah had so willed I should not have recited it to you nor would He have made it known to you. I dwelt among you a whole lifetime before it (came to me). Have ye then no sense?
Yusuf Ali : Say: "If Allah had so willed, I should not have rehearsed it to you nor should He have made it known to you. A whole lifetime before this have I tarried amongst you: will ye not then understand?"

Verse:017
Abdul Daryabadi : Who then is a greater wrong doer than he who fabricateth a lie against Allah or belieth His revelations? Verily He will not let the culprits fare well.
Dr. Mohsin : So who does more wrong than he who forges a lie against Allâh or denies His Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.)? Surely, the Mujrimûn (criminals, sinners, disbelievers and polytheists) will never be successful!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, who is more unjust than the one who forges a lie against Allah or gives the lie to His signs? Indeed (such) guilty people shall not achieve success.
Pickthal : Who doeth greater wrong than he who inventeth a lie concerning Allah and denieth His revelations? Lo! the guilty never are successful.
Yusuf Ali : Who doth more wrong than such as forge a lie against Allah, or deny His Signs? But never will prosper those who sin.

Verse:018
Abdul Daryabadi : And they worship, beside Allah, that which harmeth them not, nor profiteth them, and they say: these are our intercessors with God: Say thou: apprise ye Allah of that which He knoweth not in the heavens nor in the earth? Hallowed be He and Exalted far above that which ye associate!
Dr. Mohsin : And they worship besides Allâh things that hurt them not, nor profit them, and they say: "These are our intercessors with Allâh." Say: "Do you inform Allâh of that which He knows not in the heavens and on the earth?" Glorified and Exalted is He above all that which they associate as partners (with Him)!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Beside Allah, they worship those who can neither harm nor benefit them, and they say, “These are our intercessors with Allah.” Say, “Are you informing Allah of what He does not know as existing in the heavens or on the earth?” Pure is He, and far higher than what they associate with Him.
Pickthal : They worship besides Allah that which neither hurteth them nor profiteth them, and they say: These are our intercessors with Allah. Say: Would ye inform Allah of (something) that He knoweth not in the heavens or in the earth? Praised be He and high exalted above all that ye associate (with Him)!
Yusuf Ali : They serve, besides Allah, things that hurt them not nor profit them, and they say: "These are our intercessors with Allah." Say: "Do ye indeed inform Allah of something He knows, not in the heavens or on earth?― Glory to Him! and far is He above the partners they ascribe (to Him)!"

Verse:019
Abdul Daryabadi : And mankind were not but a single ccmmunity then they differed. And had not a word from thy Lord gone forth, it would have been decreed between them in respect of that wherein they differ.
Dr. Mohsin : Mankind were but one community (i.e. on one religion - Islâmic Monotheism), then they differed (later), and had not it been for a Word that went forth before from your Lord, it would have been settled between them regarding what they differed[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : All the people were no more than a single community; later, they differed. [QETafseerComment] But for a word from your Lord that had already come to pass, a decisive judgment would have been made about their mutual differences. [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : Mankind were but one community; then they differed; and had it not been for a word that had already gone forth from thy Lord it had been judged between them in respect of that wherein they differ.
Yusuf Ali : Mankind was but one nation, but differed (later). Had it not been for a word that went forth before from thy Lord, their differences would have been settled between them.

Verse:020
Abdul Daryabadi : And they say : wherefore is not a sign sent down unto him from his Lord! Say thou: the Hidden belongeth unto Allah alone; so wait, verily I am with you among those who wait.
Dr. Mohsin : And they say: "How is it that not a sign is sent down on him from his Lord?" Say: "The unseen belongs to Allâh Alone, so wait you, verily I am with you among those who wait (for Allâh's Judgement)."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And they say, “Why is it that no sign has been sent down to him from his Lord?” Say, “The Unseen is only for Allah. So, wait. I am waiting with you.” [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : And they will say: If only a portent were sent down upon him from his Lord! Then say, (O Muhammad): The Unseen belongeth to Allah. So wait! Lo! I am waiting with you.
Yusuf Ali : They say: "Why is not a Sign sent down to him from his Lord?" Say: "The Unseen is only for Allah (to know). Then wait ye: I too will wait with you."

Verse:021
Abdul Daryabadi : And when We let mankind taste of mercy after an adversity hath touched them, forthwith they have a plot with regard to his signs. Say thou: Allah is swifter in plotting. Verily Our mesengers write down that which ye plot.
Dr. Mohsin : And when We let mankind taste mercy after some adversity has afflicted them, behold! they take to plotting against Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.)! Say: "Allâh is more Swift in planning!" Certainly, Our Messengers (angels) record all of that which you plot.[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Once We cause people to taste a blessing after a hardship having afflicted them, they at once start devising plans against Our verses. Say, Allah is swifter in implementing His plan. Indeed, Our messengers (angels) record whatever you intrigue.
Pickthal : And when We cause mankind to taste of mercy after some adversity which had afflicted them, behold! they have some plot against Our revelations. Say: Allah is more swift in plotting. Lo! Our messengers write down that which ye plot.
Yusuf Ali : When We make mankind taste of some mercy after adversity hath touched them Behold! they take to plotting against our Signs! Say: "Swifter to plan is Allah!" Verily Our messengers record all the plots that ye make!

Verse:022
Abdul Daryabadi : He it is who enableth you to travel by land and sea until when ye are in ships and they run away with them with a goodly wind and they rejoice thereat, there cometh upon them a tempestuous wind and there cometh unto them a billow from every side, and they imagine that they are encompassed therein, they cry unto Allah making there faith pure for Him: If Thou deliverest us from this. we would surely be of those who are thankful.
Dr. Mohsin : He it is Who enables you to travel through land and sea, till when you are in the ships and they sail with them with a favourable wind, and they are glad therein, then comes a stormy wind and the waves come to them from all sides, and they think that they are encircled therein, Then they invoke Allâh, making their Faith pure for Him Alone, (saying): "If You (Allâh) deliver us from this, we shall truly be of the grateful."[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : He is the One who enables you to travel on land and at sea, until when you are aboard the boats, and they sail with those on board, under a favorable wind, and they are pleased with it, there comes upon them a violent wind, and the wave comes upon them from every direction, and they think that they are surrounded from all sides, they pray to Allah, having faith in Him alone, (and say,) “If You deliver us from this, we shall be grateful indeed.”
Pickthal : He it is Who maketh you to go on the land and the sea till, when ye are in the ships and they sail with them with a fair breeze and they are glad therein, a storm-wind reacheth them and the wave cometh unto them from every side and they deem that they are overwhelmed therein; (then) they cry unto Allah, making their faith pure for Him only: If Thou deliver us from this, we truly will be of the thankful.
Yusuf Ali : He it is Who enableth you to traverse through land and sea; so that ye even board ships― they sail with them with a favourable wind and they rejoice thereat; then comes a stormy wind and the waves come to them from all sides, and they think they are being overwhelmed: they cry unto Allah, sincerely offering (their) duty unto Him, saying "If Thou dost deliver us from this, we shall truly show our gratitude!"

Verse:023
Abdul Daryabadi : Then when He delivereth them. they forthwith rebel in the earth without justice. O ye ! your rebellion is only against yourselves: a brief enjoyment of the life of the world; thereafter unto Us is Your return; then We will declare unto you that which ye have been working.
Dr. Mohsin : But when He deliveres them, behold! they rebel (disobey Allâh) in the earth wrongfully. O mankind! Your rebellion (disobedience to Allâh) is only against your ownselves, - a brief enjoyment of this worldly life, then (in the end) unto Us is your return, and We shall inform you that which you used to do.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : But when He delivers them, they at once start rebelling on the earth wrongfully. O people, your rebellion is, in fact, against your own selves. It is only worldly life that you are enjoying. Thereafter, it is to Us that you have to return; then We will tell you what you have been doing.
Pickthal : Yet when He hath delivered them, behold! they rebel in the earth wrongfully. O mankind! Your rebellion is only against yourselves. (Ye have) enjoyment of the life of the world; then unto Us is your return and We shall proclaim unto you what ye used to do.
Yusuf Ali : But when He delivereth them Behold! they transgress insolently through the earth in defiance of right! O mankind! your insolence is against your own souls― an enjoyment of the life of the Present: in the end to Us is your return, and We shall show you the truth of all that ye did.

Verse:024
Abdul Daryabadi : The similitude of the life of the world is only as the rain which We send down from heaven, wherewith maingleth the growth of the earth, of which men and cattle eat, until, when the earth putteth on her oranament and is adorned, and the inhabitants thereof imgine that they are potent over it, there cometh unto it Our command by night or by day, then We make it stubble as though it had not flourished yesterday. Thus We detail the signs unto a people who ponder.
Dr. Mohsin : Verily, the likeness of (this) worldly life is as the water (rain) which We send down from the sky, so by it arises the intermingled produce of the earth of which men and cattle eat until when the earth is clad in its adornments and is beautified, and its people think that they have all the powers of disposal over it, Our Command reaches it by night or by day and We make it like a clean-mown harvest, as if it had not flourished yesterday! Thus do We explain the Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, laws, etc.) in detail for the people who reflect.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : The example of worldly life is just like the water We sent down from the sky, then the vegetation of the earth grew with it, which is (meant to be) eaten by men and cattle, until when the earth took on its ornament and was fully adorned, and its people thought that they had control over it, Our command came to it at night or by day, and We turned it into a stubble, as if it had not been there a day earlier. This is how We elaborate the verses for a people who reflect.
Pickthal : The similitude of the life of the world is only as water which We send down from the sky, then the earth's growth of that which men and cattle eat mingleth with it till, when the earth hath taken on her ornaments and is embellished, and her people deem that they are masters of her, Our commandment cometh by night or by day and We make it as reaped corn as if it had not flourished yesterday. Thus do we expound the revelations for people who reflect.
Yusuf Ali : The likeness of the life of the present is as the rain which We send down from the skies: by its mingling arises the produce of the earth― which provides food for men and animals: (it grows) till the earth is clad with its golden ornaments and is decked out (in beauty): the people to whom it belongs think they have all powers of disposal over it: there reaches it Our command by night or by day, and We make it like a harvest clean-mown, as if it had not flourished only the day before! Thus do We explain the Signs in detail for those who reflect.

Verse:025
Abdul Daryabadi : And Allah calleth unto the abode of peace and guideth whomso ever He will to the right path.
Dr. Mohsin : Allâh calls to the Home of peace (i.e. Paradise, by accepting Allâh's religion of Islâmic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds and abstaining from polytheism and evil deeds) and guides whom He wills to a Straight Path.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Allah invites (people) to the Abode of Peace and brings whom He wills to a straight path.
Pickthal : And Allah summoneth to the abode of peace, and leadeth whom He will to a straight path.
Yusuf Ali : But Allah doth call to the Home of Peace: He doth guide whom He pleaseth to a Way that is straight.

Verse:026
Abdul Daryabadi : Unto those who have done good is the good (reward) and an increase: neither darkness nor abjection will cover their faces. These are the fellows of the Garden: therein they will be abiders.
Dr. Mohsin : For those who have done good is the best (reward, i.e. Paradise) and even more (i.e. having the honour of glancing at the Countenance of Allâh swt) Neither darkness nor dust nor any humiliating disgrace shall cover their faces. They are the dwellers of Paradise, they will abide therein forever.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : For those who do good there is the best, and something more. Neither gloom shall cover their faces, nor disgrace. Those are the people of Paradise. Therein they shall live forever.
Pickthal : For those who do good is the best (reward) and more (thereto). Neither dust nor ignominy cometh near their faces. Such are rightful owners of the Garden; they will abide therein.
Yusuf Ali : To those who do right is a goodly (reward)― yea, more (than in measure)! No darkness nor shame shall cover their faces! They are Companions of the Garden; they will abide therein (for aye)!

Verse:027
Abdul Daryabadi : And those who have earned misdeeds -the requital of a misdeed is the like thereof and abjection will cover them; no protector they shall have from Allah, though their faces were over cast with pieces of night pitch-dark. These are the fellows of the Fire: therein they will be abiders.
Dr. Mohsin : And those who have earned evil deeds, the recompense of an evil deed is the like thereof, and humiliating disgrace will cover them (their faces). No defender will they have from Allâh. Their faces will be covered, as it were with pieces from the darkness of night. They are dwellers of the Fire, they will abide therein forever.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : As for those who commit evils, the recompense of each evil shall be similar to that evil, and disgrace shall cover them. For them, there is none to save from Allah. Their faces will seem to be covered with layers of a dark night. Those are the people of the Fire. Therein they shall live forever.
Pickthal : And those who earn ill-deeds, (for them) requital of each ill-deed by the like thereof; and ignominy overtaketh them - They have no protector from Allah - as if their faces had been covered with a cloak of darkest night. Such are rightful owners of the Fire; they will abide therein.
Yusuf Ali : But those who have earned evil will have a reward of like evil: ignominy will cover their (faces): no defender will they have from (the wrath of) Allah: their faces will be covered, as it were, with pieces from the depth of the darkness of Night: they are Companions of the Fire: they will abide therein (for aye)!

Verse:028
Abdul Daryabadi : Remember the Day whereon We shall gather them together, then We shall say un to those who associated: keep your place, ye and your associate gods. Then We shall cause split between them: and their associate-gods will say: it was not us that ye were worshipping.
Dr. Mohsin : And the Day whereon We shall gather them all together, then We shall say to those who did set partners in worship with Us: "Stop at your place! You and your partners (whom you had worshipped in the worldly life)." then We shall separate them, and their (Allâh's so-called) partners shall say: "It was not us that you used to worship."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And (be mindful of) the Day when We shall gather them together, then We shall say to those who associated partners with Allah, “Wait in your place, you and your associate-gods.” Then We will cause a split between them, and their associate-gods will say, “It was not us that you worshipped.
Pickthal : On the day when We gather them all together, then We say unto those who ascribed partners (unto Us): Stand back, ye and your (pretended) partners (of Allah)! And We separate them, the one from the other, and their (pretended) partners say: It was not us ye worshipped.
Yusuf Ali : One Day shall We gather them all together. Then shall We say to those who joined gods (with Us): "To your place! ye and those ye joined as `partners.'" We shall separate them, and their "partners" shall say: "It was not us that ye worshipped!"

Verse:029
Abdul Daryabadi : And God sufficieth as witness between you and us, of your worship, we have been ever unaware.
Dr. Mohsin : "So sufficient is Allâh for a witness between us and you, that We indeed knew nothing of your worship of us."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, Allah is enough as witness between us and between you. We were totally unaware of your worship.”
Pickthal : Allah sufficeth as a witness between us and you, that we were unaware of your worship.
Yusuf Ali : "Enough is Allah for a witness between us and you: we certainly knew nothing of your worship of us!

Verse:030
Abdul Daryabadi : Therein every soul shall prove that which it sent before, and they shall be brcught back to Allah, their rightful Owner, and there shall stray from them that which they were wont to fabriCate.
Dr. Mohsin : There! Every person will know (exactly) what he had earned before, and they will be brought back to Allâh, their rightful Maula (Lord), and their invented false deities will vanish from them.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Thereupon, everyone shall assess what one had sent ahead, and they will be sent back to Allah, their true Lord, and whatever they used to fabricate will vanish from them.
Pickthal : There doth every soul experience that which it did aforetime, and they are returned unto Allah, their rightful Lord, and that which they used to invent hath failed them.
Yusuf Ali : There will every soul prove (the fruits of) the deeds it sent before: they will be brought back to Allah their rightful Lord, and their invented falsehoods will leave them in the lurch.

Verse:031
Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: who provideth for you from the heaven and the earth, or who owneth the hearing and the sight, and who bringeth forth the living from the lifeless and bringeth forth the lifeless from the living, and who disposeth the affair! They will then surely say: Allah. Say thou: will ye not then fear Him?
Dr. Mohsin : Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Who provides for you from the sky and the earth? Or who owns hearing and sight? And who brings out the living from the dead and brings out the dead from the living? And who disposes the affairs?" They will say: "Allâh." Say: "Will you not then be afraid of Allâh's Punishment (for setting up rivals in worship with Allâh)?"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Say, “Who gives you sustenance from the heavens and the earth? Or, who controls the (powers of) hearing and seeing? And who brings forth the living from the dead, and brings forth the dead from the living? And who manages everything?” They will say, “Allah.” Then, (you) say, “Would you not, then, fear Allah (by desisting from holding others as gods)?”
Pickthal : Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Who provideth for you from the sky and the earth, or Who owneth hearing and sight; and Who bringeth forth the living from the dead and bringeth forth the dead from the living; and Who directeth the course? They will say: Allah. Then say: Will ye not then keep your duty (unto Him)?
Yusuf Ali : Say: "Who is it that sustains you (in life) from the sky and from the earth? Or who is it that has power over hearing and sight? And who is it that brings out the living from the dead And the dead from the living? And who is it that rules and regulates all affairs?" They will soon say "Allah." Say "Will ye not then show piety (to Him)?"

Verse:032
Abdul Daryabadi : Such is Allah, your rightful Lord. What then is there after the truth but error? Whither away then are ye drifting!
Dr. Mohsin : Such is Allâh, your Lord in truth. So after the truth, what else can there be, save error? How then are you turned away?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, that is Allah, your Lord in truth. And what is there after truth but error? To where, then, are you being diverted (by your whims)?
Pickthal : Such then is Allah, your rightful Lord. After the Truth what is there saving error? How then are ye turned away!
Yusuf Ali : Such is Allah your real Cherisher and Sustainer: apart from Truth, what (remains) but error? How then are ye turned away?

Verse:033
Abdul Daryabadi : In this wise is the word of thy Lord justified on those who transgress: that they shall not come to believe.
Dr. Mohsin : Thus is the Word of your Lord justified against those who rebel (disobey Allâh) that they will not believe (in the Oneness of Allâh and in Muhammad SAW as the Messenger of Allâh)
Mufti Taqi Usmani : This is how the Word of your Lord has come true about the sinners that they will not believe.
Pickthal : Thus is the Word of thy Lord justified concerning those who do wrong: that they believe not.
Yusuf Ali : Thus is the Word of thy Lord proved true against those who rebel: verily they will not believe.

Verse:034
Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: is there any of your associate-gods who originateth the creation and then repeateth it? Say thou: Allah originateth the creation and then shall repeat it. Whither away then are ye deviating?
Dr. Mohsin : Say: "Is there of your (Allâh's so-called) partners one that originates the creation and then repeats it?" Say: "Allâh originates the creation and then He repeats it. Then how are you deluded away (from the truth)?"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Say, “Is there any one from your ‘associate-gods’ who originates the creation, then brings it again? Say, “It is Allah who originates the creation then brings it again.” To where then, are you being turned away (by your desires)?”
Pickthal : Say: Is there of your partners (whom ye ascribe unto Allah) one that produceth Creation and then reproduceth it? Say: Allah produceth Creation, then reproduceth it. How then, are ye misled!
Yusuf Ali : Say: "Of your `partners', can any originate creation and repeat it?" Say: "It is Allah Who originates Creation and repeats it: then how are ye deluded away (from the truth)?"

Verse:035
Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: is there any of your associate-gods who guideth you to the truth! Say thou: Allah guideth unto the truth. Is He, then, who guideth to the truth more worthy to be followed, or one who findeth not the guidance unless he is guided. What aileth ye then? How ill ye judge!
Dr. Mohsin : Say: "Is there of your (Allâh's so-called) partners one that guides to the truth?" Say: "It is Allâh Who guides to the truth. Is then He, Who guides to the truth, more worthy to be followed, or he who finds not guidance (himself) unless he is guided? Then, what is the matter with you? How judge you?"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Say, “Is there any one from your associate-gods who guides to the truth?” Say, “Allah guides to the truth. Is, then, He who guides to the truth more worthy of being obeyed, or he who has no guidance at all unless he is guided (by someone else)? [QETafseerComment] So, what has happened to you? How do you judge things?
Pickthal : Say: Is there of your partners (whom ye ascribe unto Allah) one that leadeth to the Truth? Say: Allah leadeth to the Truth. Is He Who leadeth to the Truth more deserving that He should be followed, or he who findeth not the way unless he (himself) be guided. What aileth you? How judge ye?
Yusuf Ali : Say: "Of your `partners' is there any that can give any guidance towards Truth?" Say: "It is Allah Who gives guidance towards Truth. Is then He Who gives guidance to Truth more worthy to be followed or he who finds not guidance (Himself) unless he is guided? What then is the matter with you? How judge ye?"

Verse:036
Abdul Daryabadi : And most of them follow naught but an opinion; verily opinion availeth not against the truth; verily Allah is the Knower of that which they do.
Dr. Mohsin : And most of them follow nothing but conjecture. Certainly, conjecture can be of no avail against the truth. Surely, Allâh is All-Aware of what they do.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Most of them follow nothing but conjectures. Surely, conjectures are of no avail in the matter of truth at all. Certainly, Allah is fully aware of what they do.
Pickthal : Most of them follow not but conjecture. Assuredly conjecture can by no means take the place of truth. Lo! Allah is Aware of what they do.
Yusuf Ali : But most of them follow nothing but fancy: truly fancy can be of no avail against Truth. Verily Allah is well aware of all that they do.

Verse:037
Abdul Daryabadi : And this Quran is not such as could be fabricated as against Allah. But it is a confirmation of that a which is before it, and and a d etailing of the Decree, whereof there is no doubt, from the Lord of the worlds.
Dr. Mohsin : And this Qur'ân is not such as could ever be produced by other than Allâh (Lord of the heavens and the earth), but it is a confirmation of (the revelation)[] which was before it [i.e. the Taurât (Torah), and the Injeel (Gospel)], and a full explanation of the Book (i.e. laws decreed for mankind) - wherein there is no doubt from the the Lord of the 'Alamîn (mankind, jinn, and all that exists).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And this Qur’an is not such as could have been made up by someone without (having been revealed by) Allah, but it is a confirmation of that (discourse) which had been (revealed) before it, and an elaboration of what is prescribed. [QETafseerComment] There is no doubt in it. It is from the Lord of all the worlds.
Pickthal : And this Qur'an is not such as could ever be invented despite of Allah; but it is a confirmation of that which was before it and an exposition of that which is decreed for mankind - Therein is no doubt - from the Lord of the Worlds.
Yusuf Ali : This Qur'an is not such as can be produced by other than Allah; on the contrary it is a confirmation of (revelations) that went before it, and a fuller explanation of the Book― wherein there is no doubt from the Lord of the Worlds.

Verse:038
Abdul Daryabadi : Say they: he hath fabricated it! Say thou: then bring ye a Surah like thereunto, and call whomsoever ye can beside Allah, if ye say sooth.
Dr. Mohsin : Or do they say: "He (Muhammad SAW) has forged it?" Say: "Bring then a Sûrah (chapter) like unto it, and call upon whomsoever you can, besides Allâh, if you are truthful!"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Or, do they say that he has made it up? Say, “Then, bring a Surah like this, and call whomsoever you can beside Allah, if you are true.”
Pickthal : Or say they: He hath invented it? Say: Then bring a surah like unto it, and call (for help) on all ye can besides Allah, if ye are truthful.
Yusuf Ali : Or do they say "He forged it"? Say: "Bring then a Surah like unto it, and call (to your aid) anyone you can, besides Allah, if it be ye speak the truth!"

Verse:039
Abdul Daryabadi : Aye! they have belied that of which the knowledge they comprehended not and of which the fulfilment hath not come to them. Likewise belied those who were before them; behold then in what wise hath been the end of the wrongdoers.
Dr. Mohsin : Nay, they have belied; the knowledge whereof they could not comprehend and what has not yet been fulfilled (i.e. their punishment). Thus those before them did belie. Then see what was the end of the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers)!
Mufti Taqi Usmani : But they have rejected a thing they could not comprehend with knowledge, while its ultimate end has not appeared to them as yet. [QETafseerComment] Similarly those who passed before them had rejected the truth. So, look how was the fate of the unjust.
Pickthal : Nay, but they denied that, the knowledge whereof they could not compass, and whereof the interpretation (in events) hath not yet come unto them. Even so did those before them deny. Then see what was the consequence for the wrong-doers!
Yusuf Ali : Nay, they charge with falsehood that whose knowledge they cannot compass, even before the elucidation thereof hath reached them: thus did those before them make charges of falsehood: but see what was the end of those who did wrong!

Verse:040
Abdul Daryabadi : And of them are some who will believe therein, and of them are some who will not believe therein; and thy Lord is the Best Knower of the corrupters.
Dr. Mohsin : And of them there are some who believe therein, and of them there are some who believe not therein, and your Lord is All-Aware of the Mufsidûn (evil-doers, liars).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And among them there are those who believe in it, and among them there are others who do not believe in it. And your Lord has the best knowledge about the mischief-makers.
Pickthal : And of them is he who believeth therein, and of them is he who believeth not therein, and thy Lord is Best Aware of the corrupters.
Yusuf Ali : Of them there are some who believe therein, and some who do not: and thy Lord knoweth best those who are out for mischief.

Verse:041
Abdul Daryabadi : And if they belie thee, say thou: unto me my work, and unto you your work: ye are quit of that which I work and am quit of that which ye work.
Dr. Mohsin : And if they belie you, say: "For me are my deeds and for you are your deeds! You are innocent of what I do, and I am innocent of what you do!"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And if they give the lie to you, say, “For me, my deed, and for you, your deed. You are not accountable for what I do, and I am not accountable for what you do.”
Pickthal : And if they deny thee, say: Unto me my work, and unto you your work. Ye are innocent of what I do, and I am innocent of what ye do.
Yusuf Ali : If they charge thee with falsehood, say: "My work to me, and yours to you! Ye are free from responsibility for what I do, and I for what ye do!"

Verse:042
Abdul Daryabadi : And of them are some who hearken unto thee, so canst thou make the deaf hear, even though they apprehend not?
Dr. Mohsin : And among them are some who listen to you, but can you make the deaf to hear,— even though they apprehend not?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And among them there are those who listen to you. Would you, then, make the deaf hear, even though they lack understanding?
Pickthal : And of them are some who listen unto thee. But canst thou make the deaf to hear even though they apprehend not?
Yusuf Ali : Among them are some who (pretend to) listen to thee: but canst thou make the deaf to hear even though they are without understanding?

Verse:043
Abdul Daryabadi : And of them are some who look at thee, so canst thou guide the blind, even though they see not?
Dr. Mohsin : And among them are some who look at you, but can you guide the blind,— even though they see not?
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And among them there are those who look at you. Would you, then, guide the blind even when they have no insight?
Pickthal : And of them is he who looketh toward thee. But canst thou guide the blind even though they see not?
Yusuf Ali : And among them are some who look at thee: but canst thou guide the blind― even though they will not see?

Verse:044
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily Allah wrongeth not mankind in aught but mankind wrong themselves.
Dr. Mohsin : Truly! Allâh wrongs not mankind in aught; but mankind wrong themselves.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Surely, Allah does not wrong people at all, but the people do wrong their own selves.
Pickthal : Lo! Allah wrongeth not mankind in aught; but mankind wrong themselves.
Yusuf Ali : Verily Allah will not deal unjustly with man in aught: it is man that wrongs his own soul.

Verse:045
Abdul Daryabadi : And of the Day whereon He shall gather them, as though they had tarried not save an hour of he day they shall mutually recognize. Lost surely are those who belie the meeting with Allah and they were not such as to be guided.
Dr. Mohsin : And on the Day when He shall gather (resurrect) them together, (it will be) as if they had not stayed (in the life of this world and graves) but an hour of a day. They will recognise each other. Ruined indeed will be those who denied the meeting with Allâh, and were not guided.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : The Day when He will gather them (in the next life,) they will feel as if they had not stayed (in the world) any longer than a fraction of a day. They will recognize each other. Losers, indeed, are those who deny that they will ever face Allah; they are not on the right path.
Pickthal : And on the day when He shall gather them together, (when it will seem) as though they had tarried but an hour of the day, recognising one another, those will verily have perished who denied the meeting with Allah and were not guided.
Yusuf Ali : One day He will gather them together: (it will be) as if they had tarried but an hour of a day: they will recognise each other: assuredly those will be lost who denied the meeting with Allah and refused to receive true guidance.

Verse:046
Abdul Daryabadi : And whether We shew thee soome of that which We have promised them, or We cause thee to die, Unto us is their return, and Allah is witness of that which they do.
Dr. Mohsin : Whether We show you (in your lifetime, O Muhammad SAW) some of what We promise them (the torment), - or We cause you to die, - still unto Us is their return, and moreover Allâh is Witness over what they used to do.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : No matter whether We show you (during your life) some of what We warn them of, or We take you back to Us (before it), in any case, they have to return to Us. Then, Allah is witness to what they do.
Pickthal : Whether We let thee (O Muhammad) behold something of that which We promise them or (whether We) cause thee to die, still unto Us is their return, and Allah, moreover, is Witness over what they do.
Yusuf Ali : Whether We show thee (realized in thy lifetime) some part of what We promise them or We take thy soul (to Our Mercy) (before that)― in any case, to Us is their return: ultimately Allah is witness to all that they do.

Verse:047
Abdul Daryabadi : And for each community there hath been sent an apostle; and when their apostle hath arrived, the matter between them is decreed in equity, and they are not wronged.
Dr. Mohsin : And for every Ummah (a community or a nation), there is a Messenger; when their Messenger comes, the matter will be judged between them with justice, and they will not be wronged.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : For every people there is a messenger. So, when their messenger comes, the matter is decided between them with justice, and they are not wronged.
Pickthal : And for every nation there is a messenger. And when their messenger cometh (on the Day of Judgment) it will be judged between them fairly, and they will not be wronged.
Yusuf Ali : To every people (was sent) an Messenger: when their Messenger comes (before them), the matter will be judged between them with justice and they will not be wronged.

Verse:048
Abdul Daryabadi : And they say: when cometh this promise, if ye say sooth?
Dr. Mohsin : And they say: "When will be this promise (the torment or the Day of Resurrection), - if you speak the truth?"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They say, “When will this promise (of punishment to the disbelievers) be fulfilled if you are true?”
Pickthal : And they say: When will this promise be fulfilled, if ye are truthful?
Yusuf Ali : They say: "When will this promise come to pass― if ye speak the truth?"

Verse:049
Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: I own not any power of hurt or benefit unto myself, save that which Allah may will. For each community is a term; when their term hath arrived, not an hour can they stay behind nor can they advance.
Dr. Mohsin : Say (O Muhammad SAW): "I have no power over any harm or profit to myself except what Allâh may will. For every Ummah (a community or a nation), there is a term appointed; when their term comes, neither can they delay it nor can they advance it an hour (or a moment)." (Tafsir Al-Qurtubî).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Say, “I have no power to bring a harm or a benefit to myself, except what Allah wills. For every people there is an appointed time. When their time comes, they are not able to put it off for a moment, nor are they able to go ahead of it.”
Pickthal : Say: I have no power to hurt or benefit myself, save that which Allah willeth. For every nation there is an appointed time. When their time cometh, then they cannot put it off an hour, nor hasten (it).
Yusuf Ali : Say: "I have no power over any harm or profit to myself except as Allah willeth. To every People is a term appointed: when their term is reached, not an hour can they cause delay, nor (an hour) can they advance (it in anticipation).

Verse:050
Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: bethink ye, if His torment come on you by night or by day which Portion thereof would the culprlts hasten on?
Dr. Mohsin : Say: "Tell me, - if His torment should come to you by night or by day, - which portion thereof would the Mujrimûn (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals) hasten on ?"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Say, “Just tell me, if His punishment befalls you at night or by day, what (desirable thing) will it have that the sinners are asking it so hurriedly?
Pickthal : Say: Have ye thought: When His doom cometh unto you as a raid by night, or in the (busy) day; what is there of it that the guilty ones desire to hasten?
Yusuf Ali : Say: "Do ye see― if his punishment should come to you by night or by day, what portion of it would the Sinners wish to hasten?

Verse:051
Abdul Daryabadi : Is It, then, when it hath befallen, that ye will believe therein Now?- whereas ye have surely been hastening it On.
Dr. Mohsin : Is it then, that when it has actually befallen, you will believe in it? What! Now (you believe)? And you used (aforetime) to hasten it on!"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Is it only when it befalls you that you will believe in it? (It will be said to you at that time, “Have you believed) now, while you used to demand (in mockery) that it should come sooner?”
Pickthal : Is it (only) then, when it hath befallen you, that ye will believe? What! (Believe) now, when (until now) ye have been hastening it on (through disbelief)?
Yusuf Ali : "Would ye then believe in it at last, when it actually cometh to pass? (It will then be said): `Ah! now? And ye wanted (aforetime) to hasten it on!"

Verse:052
Abdul Daryabadi : Thereafter, it will be said unto those who wronged themselves: taste the torment everlasting: ye are requited not save for that which ye have been earning.
Dr. Mohsin : Then it will be said to them who wronged themselves: "Taste you the everlasting torment! Are you recompensed (aught) save what you used to earn?"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then it will be said to the unjust, “Taste the punishment lasting for ever. You shall not be punished except for what you have been earning.”
Pickthal : Then will it be said unto those who dealt unjustly Taste the torment of eternity. Are ye requited aught save what ye used to earn?
Yusuf Ali : "At length will be said to the wrongdoers: "Taste ye the enduring punishment! Ye get but the recompense of what ye earned!' "

Verse:053
Abdul Daryabadi : And they ask thee to tell them if it be-true. Say thou: yeal by my Lord, It, Is the veary truth, and ye shall not be able to escape.
Dr. Mohsin : And they ask you (O Muhammad SAW) to inform them (saying): "Is it true (i.e. the torment and the establishment of the Hour; - the Day of Resurrection)?" Say: "Yes! By my Lord! It is the very truth! and you cannot escape it!"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They ask you to tell them whether it is true. Say, “Yes, by my Lord, it is true. And you cannot frustrate (Allah’s plan).”
Pickthal : And they ask thee to inform them (saying): Is it true? Say: Yea, by my Lord, verily it is true, and ye cannot escape.
Yusuf Ali : They seek to be informed by thee: "Is that true?" Say: "Aye! by my Lord! It is the very truth! and ye cannot frustrate it!"

Verse:054
Abdul Daryabadi : And if every one that hath wronged had all that is in the earth, surely he would ransom himself therewith. And they shall conceal remorse when they behold the torment, and the matter will be decreed between them in equity, and they shall not be wronged.
Dr. Mohsin : And if every person who had wronged (by disbelieving in Allâh and by worshipping others besides Allâh), possessed all that is on earth, and sought to ransom himself therewith (it will not be accepted), and they would feel in their hearts regret when they see the torment, and they will be judged with justice, and no wrong will be done unto them.[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : If anyone who did wrong possesses all that is on the earth, he would (agree to) ransom himself with it. And they will conceal their remorse when they will see the punishment. And the matter will be decided between them with justice and they will not be wronged.
Pickthal : And if each soul that doeth wrong had all that is in the earth it would seek to ransom itself therewith; and they will feel remorse within them, when they see the doom. But it hath been judged between them fairly and they are not wronged.
Yusuf Ali : Every soul that hath sinned, if it possessed all that is on earth, would fain give it in ransom: they would declare (their) repentance when they see the Penalty: but the judgment between them will be with justice, and no wrong will be done unto them.

Verse:055
Abdul Daryabadi : Lo! verily Allahs is whatsoever is In the heavens and the earth, Lo! verily Allahs promise is true; but most of them know not.
Dr. Mohsin : No doubt, surely, all that is in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allâh. No doubt, surely, Allâh's Promise is true. But most of them know not.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Look! To Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. Look! Allah’s promise is certainly true, but most of them do not know.
Pickthal : Lo! verily all that is in the heavens and the earth is Allah's. Lo! verily Allah's promise is true. But most of them know not.
Yusuf Ali : Is it not (the case) that to Allah belongeth whatever is in the heavens and on earth? Is it not (the case ) that Allah's promise is assuredly true? Yet most of them understand not.

Verse:056
Abdul Daryabadi : He giveth life and causeth to die, and unto Him ye shall be returned.
Dr. Mohsin : It is He Who gives life, and causes death, and to Him you (all) shall return.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : He gives life and brings death, and to Him you shall be returned.
Pickthal : He quickeneth and giveth death, and unto Him ye will be returned.
Yusuf Ali : Is it He Who giveth life and who taketh it and to Him shall ye all be brought back.

Verse:057
Abdul Daryabadi : O Mankind! now there hath come unto you an exhortation from your Lord and a healing for that which is in Your breasts, and a guidance and a mercy for the believers.
Dr. Mohsin : O mankind! There has come to you a good advice from your Lord (i.e. the Qur'an, enjoining all that is good and forbidding all that is evil), and a healing for that (disease of ignorance, doubt, hypocrisy and differences,) Which is in your breasts, - a guidance and a mercy (explaining lawful and unlawful things) for the believers.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : O men, there has come to you an advice from your Lord, and a cure for the ailments of your hearts, and guidance and mercy for the believers.
Pickthal : O mankind! There hath come unto you an exhortation from your Lord, a balm for that which is in the breasts, a guidance and a mercy for believers.
Yusuf Ali : O mankind! There hath come to you a admonition from your Lord and a healing for the (diseases) in your hearts and for those who believe, a Guidance and a Mercy.

Verse:058
Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: in the grace of Allah and in His mercy--therein let them therefore rejoice: far better it is than that which they amass.
Dr. Mohsin : Say: "In the Bounty of Allâh, and in His Mercy (i.e. Islâm and the Qur'ân); -therein let them rejoice." That is better than what (the wealth) they amass
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Say, “With the grace of Allah and with His mercy (this book has been revealed). So they should rejoice in it. It is much better than that (wealth) which they accumulate.
Pickthal : Say: In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy: therein let them rejoice. It is better than what they hoard.
Yusuf Ali : Say: "In the Bounty of Allah and in His Mercy― in that let them rejoice": that is better than the (wealth) they hoard.

Verse:059
Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: bethink ye of that which Allah hath sent down unto you of provision, and ye have then made thereof allowable and forbidden? Say thou: is it that Allah hath given you leave, or fabricate ye a lie against Allah?
Dr. Mohsin : Say (O Muhammad SAW to these polytheists): "Tell me, what provision Allâh has sent down to you! And you have made of it lawful and unlawful." Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Has Allâh permitted you (to do so), or do you invent a lie against Allâh?"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Say, “Have you ever considered, whatever provision Allah has sent down for your benefit, you have made up unlawful and lawful from it?” [QETafseerComment] Say, “Has Allah permitted you or are you fabricating a lie against Allah?”
Pickthal : Say: Have ye considered what provision Allah hath sent down for you, how ye have made of it lawful and unlawful say Hath Allah permitted you, or do ye invent a lie concerning Allah?
Yusuf Ali : Say: "See ye what things Allah hath sent down to you for sustenance? Yet ye hold forbidden some things thereof and (some things) lawful." Say: "Hath Allah indeed permitted you, or do ye invent (things) to attribute to Allah?"

Verse:060
Abdul Daryabadi : And what imagine those who fabricate a lie against Allah of the Day of Resurrection? Verily Allah is the owner of grace unto mankind, but most of them return not thanks.
Dr. Mohsin : And what think those who invent lie against Allâh, on the Day of Resurrection? [i.e. Do they think that they will be forgiven and excused! Nay, they will have an eternal punishment in the Fire of Hell]. Truly, Allâh is full of Bounty to mankind, but most of them are ungrateful
Mufti Taqi Usmani : What is the assumption of those who fabricate a lie against Allah (about) the Day of Judgment? Indeed Allah is gracious to people, but most of them are not grateful.
Pickthal : And what think those who invent a lie concerning Allah (will be their plight) upon the Day of Resurrection? Lo! Allah truly is Bountiful toward mankind, but most of them give not thanks.
Yusuf Ali : And what think those who invent lies against Allah, on the Day of Judgment? Verily Allah is full of Bounty to mankind but most of them are ungrateful.

Verse:061
Abdul Daryabadi : Thou art not engaged in any business, nor dost thou recite any part of the Quran, nor ye work any work, but We are witnesses over you when ye are engaged therein. And there escapeth not thy Lord the weight of an ant in the earth or the heavens, nor less than that nor greater, but it is in a Book luminous.
Dr. Mohsin : Neither you (O Muhammad SAW) do any deed nor recite any portion of the Qur’ân, - nor you (mankind) do any deed (good or evil), but We are Witness thereof, when you are doing it. And nothing is hidden from your Lord (so much as) the weight of an atom (or small ant) on the earth or in the heaven. Not what is less than that or what is greater than that but is (written) in a Clear Record. (Tafsir At-Tabarî).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : In whatever condition you are, and whatever portion of the Qur’an you recite therein, and whatever work you all do, We are present before you when you are engaged in it. Hidden from your Lord is nothing even to the measure of a particle on the earth or in the heavens. And there is nothing smaller or greater that is not in the clear Book.
Pickthal : And thou (Muhammad) art not occupied with any business and thou recitest not a Lecture from this (Scripture), and ye (mankind) perform no act, but We are Witness of you when ye are engaged therein. And not an atom's weight in the earth or in the sky escapeth your Lord, nor what is less than that or greater than that, but it is (written) in a clear Book.
Yusuf Ali : In whatever business thou mayest be, and whatever portion thou mayest be reciting from the Qur'an― and whatever deed ye (mankind) may be doing― We are Witnesses thereof when ye are deeply engrossed therein. Nor is hidden from thy Lord (so much as) the weight of an atom on the earth or in heaven. And not the least and not the greatest of these things but are recorded in a clear Record.

Abdul Daryabadi : Lo! verily the friends of Allah! no fear shall come upon them nor shall they grieve.
Dr. Mohsin : No doubt! Verily, the Auliyâ' of Allâh [i.e. those who believe in the Oneness of Allâh and fear Allâh much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which he has forbidden), and love Allâh much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)], no fear shall come upon them nor shall they grieve[], -
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Listen, the friends of Allah shall have no fear, nor shall they grieve

Mufti Taqi Usmani : For them there is the good news in the worldly life and in the Hereafter: there is no change in the words of Allah. That is the great achievement.

Mufti Taqi Usmani : O Prophet,) what they say should not make you grieve. Surely, all power belongs to Allah. He is All-Hearing, All Knowing.

Abdul Daryabadi : Lo! verily Allahs is whosoever is in the heavens and whosoever is on the earth. And what is it that they who call unto associate-gods beside Allah follow They follow but an opinion, and they are but conjecturing.
Dr. Mohsin : No doubt! Verily, to Allâh belongs whosoever is in the heavens and whosoever is in the earth. And those who worship and invoke others besides Allâh, in fact they follow not the (Allâh's so-called) partners, they follow only a conjecture and they only invent lies.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Listen, to Allah belong all those in the heavens and all those on the earth. And those who invoke associate-gods besides Allah do not follow a reality. They follow nothing but whims and do nothing but make conjectures.
Pickthal : Beware ! To Allah belongeth whosoever is in the heavens and whosoever is in the earth Those who follow aught instead of Allah follow not (His) partners. They follow only a conjecture, and they do but guess.
Yusuf Ali : Behold! verily to Allah belong all creatures, in the heavens and on earth. What do they follow who worship as His "partners" other than Allah? They follow nothing but fancy, and they do nothing but lie.

Mufti Taqi Usmani : He is the One who made for you the night, so that you may have rest in it, and (made) the day to see. Indeed, there are signs therein for a people who listen.

Abdul Daryabadi : They say: God hath taken a son.Hallowed be He-He, the selfesufficient! His is whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. No warranty is there with you for this. Ascribe ye falsely unto Allah that which ye know not?
Dr. Mohsin : They (Jews, Christians and pagans) say: "Allâh has begotten a son (children)." Glory is to Him! He is Rich (Free of all needs). His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. No warrant you have for this. Do you say against Allâh what you know not.[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They say, “Allah has got a son.” Pure is He. He is Self-Sufficient. To Him belongs what is in the heavens and what is in the earth. You have no proof for it. Do you allege about Allah what you do not know?

Abdul Daryabadi : A brief enjoyment in the world; then unto Us is their return; then We will make them taste a severe torment, in that they have been disbelieving.
Dr. Mohsin : (A brief) enjoyment in this world! - and then unto Us will be their return, then We shall make them taste the severest torment because they used to disbelieve [in Allâh, belie His Messengers, deny and challenge His Ayât (proofs, signs, verses, etc.)].
Mufti Taqi Usmani : It will be a little enjoyment in this world; thereafter to Us they are bound to return; then We shall make them taste the severe punishment, because they used to disbelieve.
Pickthal : This world's portion (will be theirs), then unto Us is their return. Then We make them taste a dreadful doom because they used to disbelieve.

Verse:071
Abdul Daryabadi : And rehearse thou unto them the story of Nuh, when he said unto his people: O my people! if my standing forth and my admonishment with the commandments of Allah be hard upon you, then on Allah I rely; so devise your affair, ye and your associate-gods and let not your affair be dubious unto you, then have it decreed against me, and respite me not.
Dr. Mohsin : And recite to them the news of Nûh (Noah). When he said to his people: "O my people, if my stay (with you), and my reminding (you) of the Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allâh is hard on you, then I put my trust in Allâh. So devise your plot, you and your partners, and let not your plot be in doubt for you. Then pass your sentence on me and give me no respite.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Recite to them the story of (the Prophet) Nuh (Noah), [QETafseerComment] when he said to his people, “O my people, if it is hard on you that I stay (with you) and give (you) advice through the signs of Allah, then, in Allah I place my trust. So, be firm in your plan (against me) with (the help of) all your partners, and your plan should not be a cause of concern for you; then carry it out against me and give me no respite. [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : Recite unto them the story of Noah, when he told his people: O my people! If my sojourn here and my reminding you by Allah's revelations are an offence unto you, in Allah have I put my trust, so decide upon your course of action you and your partners. Let not your course of action be in doubt for you. Then have at me, give me no respite.
Yusuf Ali : Relate to them the story of Noah. Behold! he said to his People: "O my People! if it be hard on your (mind) that I should stay (with you) and commemorate the Signs of Allah― yet I put my trust in Allah. Get ye then an agreement about your plan and among your Partners so your plan be not to you dark and dubious. Then pass your sentence on me, and give me no respite.

Verse:072
Abdul Daryabadi : If then ye turn away, I have asked of you no hire, my hire is only with Allah, and I am commanded to be of those who submit.
Dr. Mohsin : "But if you turn away [from accepting my doctrine of Islâmic Monotheism, i.e. to worship none but Allâh], then no reward have I asked of you, my reward is only from Allâh, and I have been commanded to be of the Muslims (those who submit to Allâh's Will)."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Still, if you turn away, then, I did not demand any reward from you. My reward is with none except Allah, and I have been commanded to be among those who submit.”
Pickthal : But if ye are averse I have asked of you no wage. My wage is the concern of Allah only, and I am commanded to be of those who surrender (unto Him).

Verse:073
Abdul Daryabadi : So they belied him; then We delivered him and those with him in the ark, and We made them successors, while We drowned those who belied Our signs. Behold then what like hath been the end of those who were warned.
Dr. Mohsin : They denied him, but We delivered him, and those with him in the ship, and We made them generations replacing one after another, while We drowned those who belied Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). Then see what was the end of those who were warned.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then they rejected him, and We saved him and those with him in the Ark and made them the successors, and drowned those who gave the lie to Our signs. So look how was the fate of those who were warned.
Pickthal : But they denied him, so We saved him and those with him in the ship, and made them viceroys (in the earth), while We drowned those who denied Our revelations. See then the nature of the consequence for those who had been warned.
Yusuf Ali : They rejected him but We delivered him, and those with him in the Ark, and We made them inherit (the earth), while We overwhelmed in the Flood those who rejected Our Signs. Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not)!

Verse:074
Abdul Daryabadi : Then, We raised after him other apostles to their people, and they brought them evidences, but they were not such as to believe that which they had belied afore. Thus We seal the hearts of the transgressors.
Dr. Mohsin : Then after him We sent Messengers to their people, They brought them clear proofs, but they would not believe what they had already rejected beforehand. Thus We seal the hearts of the transgressors (those who disbelieve in the Oneness of Allâh and disobey Him).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then, after him, We sent messengers to their peoples, and they came to them with clear signs, but they were not to believe in what they had rejected earlier. This is how We seal the hearts of the transgressors.
Pickthal : Then, after him, We sent messengers unto their folk, and they brought them clear proofs. But they were not ready to believe in that which they before denied. Thus print We on the hearts of the transgressors.
Yusuf Ali : Then after him We sent (many) messengers to their Peoples: they brought them Clear Signs but they would not believe what they had already rejected beforehand. Thus do We seal the hearts of the transgressors.

Verse:075
Abdul Daryabadi : Then, after them, We raised Musa and Harun unto Firawn and his chiefs with Our signs, but they grew stiff-necked and they were a people guilty.
Dr. Mohsin : Then after them We sent Mûsa (Moses) and Hârûn (Aaron) to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs with Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). But they behaved arrogantly and were Mujrimûn (disbelievers, sinners, polytheists, criminals, etc.) folk.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then, after them, We sent Musa [QETafseerComment] and Harun with Our signs to Pharaoh and his group, but they showed arrogance. And they were surely a guilty people.
Pickthal : Then, after them, We sent Moses and Aaron unto Pharaoh and his chiefs with Our revelations, but they were arrogant and were a guilty folk.
Yusuf Ali : Then after them sent We Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh and his chiefs with Our Signs. But they were arrogant: they were a people in sin.

Verse:076
Abdul Daryabadi : Then when there came unto them the truth from Us, they said: verily this is magic manifest.
Dr. Mohsin : So when came to them the truth from Us, they said: "This is indeed clear magic."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, when Truth came to them from Us, they said, “It is certainly a clear magic.”
Pickthal : And when the Truth from Our presence came unto them, they said: Lo! this is mere magic.
Yusuf Ali : When the Truth did come to them from Us, they said: "This is indeed evident sorcery!"

Verse:077
Abdul Daryabadi : Musa said: say ye this of the truth after it hath come unto you? Is this magic? and the magicians fare not well.
Dr. Mohsin : Mûsa (Moses) said: "Say you (this) about the truth when it has come to you? Is this magic? But the magicians will never be successful."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Musa said, “Do you say (this) about the Truth when it came to you? Is this magic, while the magicians do not achieve success?”
Pickthal : Moses said: Speak ye (so) of the Truth when it hath come unto you? Is this magic? Now magicians thrive not.
Yusuf Ali : Said Moses: "Say ye (this) about the Truth when it hath (actually) reached you? In sorcery (like) this? But sorcerers will not prosper."

Verse:078
Abdul Daryabadi : They said: art thou come unto us to turn us aside from that faith whereon We found our fathers, and that the greatness in the land shall be unto you twain! And for the sake of you twain we are not going to be believers.
Dr. Mohsin : They said: "Have you come to us to turn us away from that (Faith) we found our fathers following, - and that you two may have greatness in the land? We are not going to believe you two!"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : They said, “Have you come to us to turn us away from the way on which we have found our fathers, and so that you both have supremacy on earth? We are not going to believe in you.”
Pickthal : They said: Hast thou come unto us to pervert us from that (faith) in which we found our fathers, and that you two may own the place of greatness in the land? We will not believe in you both.
Yusuf Ali : They said: "Hast thou come to us to turn us a way from the ways We found our fathers following in order that thou and thy brother may have greatness in the land? But not we shall believe in you!"

Verse:079
Abdul Daryabadi : And Firawn said: bring unto me every magician knowing.
Dr. Mohsin : And Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Bring me every well-versed sorcerer."

Abdul Daryabadi : Then when the magicians were come, Musa said unto them: cast down that which ye are going to cast down.
Dr. Mohsin : And when the sorcerers came, Mûsa (Moses) said to them: "Cast down what you want to cast!"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, when the magicians came, Musa said to them, “Cast what you have to cast.”
Pickthal : And when the wizards came, Moses said unto them: Cast your cast!
Yusuf Ali : When the sorcerers came Moses said to them: "Throw ye what ye (wish) to throw!"

Verse:081
Abdul Daryabadi : Then when they had cast down, Musa said: that which ye have brought is magic, verily Allah will soon make it vain; verily Allah setteth not right the work of the corrupters.
Dr. Mohsin : Then when they had cast down, Mûsa (Moses) said: "What you have brought is sorcery, Allâh will surely make it of no effect. Verily, Allâh does not set right the work of Al-Mufsidûn (the evil-doers, corrupters).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, when they had cast, Musa said, “All that you have brought is magic. Allah will certainly bring it to naught. Be assured that Allah does not set right the work of the mischief-makers.”
Pickthal : And when they had cast, Moses said: That which ye have brought is magic. Lo! Allah will make it vain. Lo! Allah upholdeth not the work of mischief-makers.
Yusuf Ali : When they had their throw Moses said: "What ye have brought is sorcery: Allah will surely make it of no effect: for Allah prospereth not the work of those who make mischief.

Verse:082
Abdul Daryabadi : And Allah justifieth the truth according to His words, even though the culprits may detest.
Dr. Mohsin : "And Allâh will establish and make apparent the truth by His Words, however much the Mujrimûn (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners) may hate it."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And Allah establishes the truth through His words, even though the guilty ones may dislike it.

Abdul Daryabadi : Then none believed in Musa save a posterity of his people, through fear of Firawn and their chiefs, lest he should persecute them; and verily Firawn was lofty in the land, and verily he was of the extravagant.
Dr. Mohsin : But none believed in Mûsa (Moses) except the offspring of his people, because of the fear of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, lest they should persecute them; and verily, Fir'aun (Pharaoh) was an arrogant tyrant on the earth, he was indeed one of the Musrifûn (polytheists, sinners and transgressors, those who give up the truth and follow the evil, and commit all kinds of great sins).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then, except some youths of his people, no one believed in Musa for the fear of Pharaoh and his group, lest he should persecute them. Pharaoh was high-handed in the land and he was of those who crossed all limits.
Pickthal : But none believed in Moses, save some scions of his people, (and they were) in fear of Pharaoh and their chiefs, that he would persecute them. Lo! Pharaoh was verily a tyrant in the land, and lo! he verily was of the wanton.
Yusuf Ali : But none believed in Moses except some children of his People, because of the fear of Pharaoh and his chiefs, lest they should persecute them; and certainly Pharaoh was mighty on the earth and one who transgressed all bounds.

Abdul Daryabadi : And Musa said: my people! if ye have been believing in Allah, then on Him rely, if ye are muslims.

Mufti Taqi Usmani : And We revealed to Musa and his brother: “Have houses for your people in Egypt, and make your houses worship oriented, [QETafseerComment] and establish Salah, and give good tidings to the believers.”
Pickthal : And We inspired Moses and his brother, (saying): Appoint houses for your people in Egypt and make your houses oratories, and establish worship. And give good news to the believers.
Yusuf Ali : We inspired Moses and his brother with this message: "Provide dwellings for your People in Egypt, make your dwellings into places of worship, and establish regular prayers: and give Glad Tidings to those who believe!"

Verse:088
Abdul Daryabadi : And Musa said: our Lord! verily Thou! Thou hast vouchsafed unto Firawn and his chiefs adornment and riches in the life of the world, Our Lord, that they may lead men astray from Thine way. Our Lord! wipe out their riches, and harden their hearts, so that they may not believe until they behold the torment afflictive.
Dr. Mohsin : And Mûsa (Moses) said: "Our Lord! You have indeed bestowed on Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs splendour and wealth in the life of this world, our Lord! that they may lead men astray from Your Path. Our Lord! Destroy their wealth, and harden their hearts, so that they will not believe until they see the painful torment."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Musa said, “Our Lord, You have given Pharaoh and his group glamour and riches in the worldly life, so that, our Lord, they mislead (people) from Your path. Our Lord, obliterate their riches and harden their hearts, so that they may not come to believe until they witness the painful punishment.”
Pickthal : And Moses said: Our Lord! Lo! Thou hast given Pharaoh and his chiefs splendour and riches in the life of the world, Our Lord! that they may lead men astray from Thy way. Our Lord! Destroy their riches and harden their hearts so that they believe not till they see the painful doom.
Yusuf Ali : Moses prayed: "Our Lord! Thou hast indeed bestowed on Pharaoh and his Chiefs splendour and wealth in the life of the Present, and so, our Lord they mislead (men) from Thy Path. Verse:089
Abdul Daryabadi : Allah said: surely the petition of you twain is accepted, so keep straight on, and follow not the path of those who know not.
Dr. Mohsin : Allâh said: "Verily, the invocation of you both is accepted. So you both keep to the Straight Way (i.e. keep on doing good deeds and preaching Allâh's Message with patience), and follow not the path of those who know not (the truth i.e. to believe in the Oneness of Allâh, and also to believe in the Reward of Allâh: Paradise)."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Allah said, “The prayer of the two of you has been granted; so stand firm, and never follow the way of the ignorant.”
Pickthal : He said: Your prayer is heard. Do ye twain keep to the straight path, and follow not the road of those who have no knowledge.
Yusuf Ali : Allah said: "Accepted is your prayer (O Moses and Aaron)! So stand ye straight, and follow not the path of those who know not."

Verse:090
Abdul Daryabadi : And We led the Children of Israil across the sea; then Firawn and his hosts pursued them in rebellion and enmity, until, when the drowning over-took him, he said: I believe that verily He! there is no god but he, in whom the Children of Israil believe, and am of the Muslims.
Dr. Mohsin : And We took the Children of Israel across the sea, and Fir'aun (Pharaoh) with his hosts followed them in oppression and enmity, till when drowning overtook him, he said: "I believe that none has the right to be worshipped but He (Allah)," in Whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am one of the Muslims (those who submit to Allâh's Will)."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And We let the children of Isra’il cross the sea. So, Pharaoh and his troops chased them in transgression and hostility, until when he was about to drown, he said, “I believe that there is no god but the One in whom the children of Isra’il believe, and I am among those who submit to Allah.”
Pickthal : And We brought the Children of Israel across the sea, and Pharaoh with his hosts pursued them in rebellion and transgression, till, when the (fate of) drowning overtook him, he exclaimed: I believe that there is no God save Him in Whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am of those who surrender (unto Him).
Yusuf Ali : We took the Children of Israel across the sea: Pharaoh and his hosts followed them in insolence and spite. At length, when overwhelmed with the flood, he said: "I believe that there is no god except Him Whom the Children of Israel believe in: I am of those who submit (to Allah in Islam)."

Verse:091
Abdul Daryabadi : Now indeed! whereas thou hast rebelled afore, and wast of the corrupters.
Dr. Mohsin : Now (you believe) while you refused to believe before and you were one of the Mufsidûn (evil-doers, corrupters).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Allah said,) “Is it now (that you have come to believe) while you were rebellious all along, and you were among the mischief-makers?
Pickthal : What! Now! When hitherto thou hast rebelled and been of the wrong-doers?
Yusuf Ali : (It was said to him): "Ah now!― but a little while before, wast thou in rebellion!― and thou didst mischief (and violence)!

Verse:092
Abdul Daryabadi : So this day We deliver thee in thy body that thou mayest be a sign unto those after thee, and verily many of mankind are of our signs neglectful.
Dr. Mohsin : So this day We shall deliver your (dead) body (out from the sea) that you may be a sign to those who come after you! And verily, many among mankind are heedless of Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs , revelations, etc.).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, today, We shall save your body, so that you may become a sign for those after you. [QETafseerComment] And many of the people are heedless of Our signs.”
Pickthal : But this day We save thee in thy body that thou mayst be a portent for those after thee. Lo! most of mankind are heedless of Our portents.
Yusuf Ali : "This day shall We save thee in thy body, that thou mayest be a Sign to those who come after thee! But verily, many among mankind are heedless of Our Signs!"

Verse:093
Abdul Daryabadi : And assuredly We settled the Children of Israil into a secure settlement, and We provided them with good things; nor they differed until there had come unto them the knowledge. Verily thine Lord shall judge between them on the Day of Resurrection as to that wherein they have been differing.
Dr. Mohsin : And indeed We settled the Children of Israel in an honourable dwelling place (Shâm and Misr), and provided them with good things, and they differed not until the knowledge came to them. Verily, Allâh will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection in that in which they used to differ.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And surely We gave the children of Isra’il a proper place to live, and provided them with good things. Then they did not disagree between themselves but after knowledge had come to them. [QETafseerComment] Surely, Allah will decide between them on the Day of Judgment about the matters in which they used to dispute each other.
Pickthal : And We verily did allot unto the Children of Israel a fixed abode, and did provide them with good things; and they differed not until the knowledge came unto them. Lo! thy Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that wherein they used to differ.
Yusuf Ali : We settled the Children of Israel in a beautiful dwelling-place, and provided for them sustenance of the best: it was after knowledge had been granted to them, that they fell into schisms. Verily Allah will judge between them as to the schisms amongst them on the Day of Judgment.

Verse:094
Abdul Daryabadi : And if thou be in doubt concerning that which We have sent down unto thee, then ask those who have read the Books before thee. Assuredly hath the truth come unto thee from thy Lord, so be not then of the doubters.
Dr. Mohsin : So if you (O Muhammad SAW) are in doubt concerning that which We have revealed unto you, [i.e. that your name is written in the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] then ask those who are reading the Book [the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] before you. Verily, the truth has come to you from your Lord. So be not of those who doubt (it)[]
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, (O prophet,) even if you are in doubt about what We have sent down to you, ask those who read the Book (revealed) before you. [QETafseerComment] Surely, truth has come to you from your Lord, so never be among those who are suspicious.
Pickthal : And if thou (Muhammad) art in doubt concerning that which We reveal unto thee, then question those who read the Scripture (that was) before thee. Verily the Truth from thy Lord hath come unto thee. So be not thou of the waverers.
Yusuf Ali : If thou wert in doubt as to what We have revealed unto thee, then ask those who have been reading the Book from before thee: the Truth hath indeed come to thee from thy Lord: so be in nowise of those in doubt.

Verse:095
Abdul Daryabadi : And be not thou of those who belie Allahs signs, lest thou be of the losers.
Dr. Mohsin : And be not one of those who belie the Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allâh, for then you shall be one of the losers.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And never be among those who have rejected Allah’s signs, lest you should be among the losers.
Pickthal : And be not thou of those who deny the revelations of Allah, for then wert thou of the losers.
Yusuf Ali : Nor be of those who reject the Signs of Allah, or thou shalt be of those who perish.

Verse:096
Abdul Daryabadi : Verily those on whom the word of thy Lord hath been justified shall not believe.
Dr. Mohsin : Truly! Those, against whom the Word (Wrath) of your Lord has been justified, will not believe.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Surely, those against whom the Word of your Lord stands settled will not believe,
Pickthal : Lo! those for whom the word of thy Lord (concerning sinners) hath effect will not believe,
Yusuf Ali : Those against whom the Word of thy Lord hath been verified would not believe―

Verse:097
Abdul Daryabadi : Even though every sign should come unto them, until they hehold an afflictive torment.
Dr. Mohsin : Even if every sign should come to them, - until they see the painful torment.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Even though every sign comes to them, unless they witness the painful punishment.
Pickthal : Though every token come unto them, till they see the painful doom.
Yusuf Ali : Even if every Sign was brought unto them until they see (for themselves) the Grievous Penalty.

Verse:098
Abdul Daryabadi : Why then was there not a township which believed, so that its faith might have profited it, except the people of Yunus! When they believed, We removed from them the torment of humiliation in the life of the world, and We let them enjoy for a season.
Dr. Mohsin : Was there any town (community) that believed (after seeing the punishment), and its Faith (at that moment) saved it (from the punishment)? (The answer is none,) - except the people of Yûnus (Jonah); when they believed, We removed from them the torment of disgrace in the life of the (present) world, and permitted them to enjoy for a while.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, how is it that there never was a town, which could have believed and its belief would have been of benefit to it, except the people of Yunus? When they came to believe, We removed from them the punishment of humiliation in the worldly life and let them enjoy themselves for some time. [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : If only there had been a community (of all those that were destroyed of old) that believed and profited by its belief as did the folk of Jonah! When they believed We drew off from them the torment of disgrace in the life of the world and gave them comfort for a while.
Yusuf Ali : Why was there not a single township (among those We warned), which believed― so its Faith should have profited it, except the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the Penalty of Ignominy in the life of the Present and permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while.

Verse:099
Abdul Daryabadi : And had thy Lord willed, those who are on the earth would have believed, all of them, together; canst thou then compel mankind until they become believers?
Dr. Mohsin : And had your Lord willed, those on earth would have believed, all of them together. So, will you (O Muhammad SAW) then compel mankind, until they become believers.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Had your Lord willed, all those on earth would have believed altogether. Would you, then, compel people, so that they become believers? [QETafseerComment]
Pickthal : And if thy Lord willed, all who are in the earth would have believed together. Wouldst thou (Muhammad) compel men until they are believers?
Yusuf Ali : If it had been the Lord's Will they would all have believed all who are on earth! Wilt thou then compel mankind against their will to believe!

Verse:100
Abdul Daryabadi : It is not for any soul that it should believe save with Allahs will, and He layeth the abomination upon those who reflect not.
Dr. Mohsin : It is not for any person to believe, except by the Leave of Allâh, and He will put the wrath on those who are heedless.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : It is not (possible) for any one that he believes except with the will of Allah. And He makes filth settle on those who do not understand.
Pickthal : It is not for any soul to believe save by the permission of Allah. He hath set uncleanness upon those who have no sense.
Yusuf Ali : No soul can believe except by the Will of Allah and He will place Doubt (or obscurity) on those who will not understand.

Verse:101
Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: behold that which is in the heavens and the earth; and signs and warnings avail not those who will not believe.
Dr. Mohsin : Say: "Behold all that is in the heavens and the earth," but neither Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) nor warners benefit those who believe not.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Say, “Look at what is there in the heavens and the earth.” But, signs and warnings do not suffice a people who do not believe.
Pickthal : Say: Behold what is in the heavens and the earth! But revelations and warnings avail not folk who will not believe.
Yusuf Ali : Say: "Behold all that is in the heavens and on earth"; but neither Signs nor Warners profit those who believe not.

Verse:102
Abdul Daryabadi : Wait they then aught but the days of those who have passed away before them. Say thou: wait then, verily I am with you among those who wait.
Dr. Mohsin : Then do they wait for (anything) save for (a destruction) like the days of the men who passed away before them? Say: "Wait then, I am (too) with you among those who wait."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : So, are they waiting for nothing short of something like the days of those who have passed before them? Say, “So wait. I am with you, among those who are waiting.”
Pickthal : What expect they save the like of the days of those who passed away before them? Say: Expect then! I am with you among the expectant.
Yusuf Ali : Do they then expect (anything) but (what happened in) the days of the men who passed away before them? Say: "Wait ye then: for I too will wait with you."

Verse:103
Abdul Daryabadi : Thereafter We delivered Our apostles and those who believed. Even so, as incumbent upon us, We deliver the believers.
Dr. Mohsin : Then (in the end) We save Our Messengers and those who believe! Thus it is incumbent upon Us to save the believers.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Then We (used to) save Our messengers and those who believed. Similarly, it being undertaken by Us, We shall save the believers.
Pickthal : Then shall We save Our messengers and the believers, in like manner (as of old). It is incumbent upon Us to save believers.
Yusuf Ali : In the end We deliver Our messengers and those who believe: thus is it fitting on Our part that We should deliver those who believe!

Verse:104
Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: ye men! if ye are in doubt concerning my religion-- then worship not those ye worship beside Allah, but I worship Allah who causeth you to die; and I am commanded that I should be of the believers.
Dr. Mohsin : Say (O Muhammad SAW): "O you mankind! If you are in doubt as to my religion (Islâm), then (know that) I will never worship those whom you worship, besides Allâh. But I worship Allâh Who causes you to die, I am commanded to be one of the believers.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Say, “O people, if you are in doubt about my Faith, then, I do not worship those whom you worship beside Allah. Rather, I worship Allah who brings death to you. And I have been ordained to be among the believers,
Pickthal : Say (O Muhammad): O mankind! If ye are in doubt of my religion, then (know that) I worship not those whom ye worship instead of Allah, but I worship Allah Who causeth you to die, and I have been commanded to be of the believers.
Yusuf Ali : Say: "O ye men! if ye are in doubt as to my religion, (behold!) I worship not what ye worship other than Allah But I worship Allah― Who will take your souls (at death): I am commanded to be (in the ranks) of the Believers.

Verse:105
Abdul Daryabadi : And that: keep thy countenance straight toward the religion, Upright; and by no means be of the associators.
Dr. Mohsin : "And (it is revealed to me): Direct your face (O Muhammad SAW) entirely towards the religion Hanif (Islâmic Monotheism, i.e. to worship none but Allâh Alone), and never be one of the Mushrikûn (those who ascribe partners to Allâh, polytheists, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh, and those who worship others along with Allâh).
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And that I should make myself firm on Faith, being upright, and never should be among the Mushriks (who ascribe partners to Allah).”
Pickthal : And, (O Muhammad) set thy purpose resolutely for religion, as a man by nature upright, and be not of those who ascribe partners (to Allah).
Yusuf Ali : "And further (thus): `Set thy face towards Religion with true piety, and never in anywise be of the Unbelievers;

Verse:106
Abdul Daryabadi : And invoke not beside Allah that which can neither profit thee nor hurt thee; then if thou dost so, thou art forthwith of the wrong-doers.
Dr. Mohsin : "And invoke not besides Allâh, any that will neither profit you, nor hurt you, but if (in case) you did so, you shall certainly be one of the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers).[]"
Mufti Taqi Usmani : And do not invoke, other than Allah, what neither benefits you nor harms you, for, if you do so, then you will surely be one of the unjust.
Pickthal : And cry not, beside Allah, unto that which cannot profit thee nor hurt thee, for if thou didst so then wert thou of the wrong-doers.
Yusuf Ali : "Nor call on any, other than Allah such will neither profit thee nor hurt thee: if thou dost behold! thou shalt certainly be of those who do wrong."

Verse:107
Abdul Daryabadi : And if Allah toucheth thee with hurt there is no remover thereof but he, and if He intendeth any good there is no averter of His grace. He letteth it befall on whomsoever of His bondmen He will; and He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
Dr. Mohsin : And if Allâh touches you with hurt, there is none who can remove it but He; and if He intends any good for you, there is none who can repel His Favour which He causes it to reach whomsoever of His slaves He wills. And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : If Allah brings some harm to you, there is none to remove it except He. And if He intends to bring some good to you, there is none to turn His grace back. He brings it to whomever He wills from among His servants. He is the Most-Forgiving, the Very Merciful.
Pickthal : If Allah afflicteth thee with some hurt, there is none who can remove it save Him; and if He desireth good for thee, there is none who can repel His bounty. He striketh with it whom He will of his bondmen. He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
Yusuf Ali : If Allah do touch thee with hurt, there is none can remove it but He: if He do design some benefit for thee, there is none can keep back His favour: He causeth it to reach whomsoever of His servants He pleaseth. And He is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Verse:108
Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: O mankind! the truth hath surely come unto you from your Lord: whosoever then is guided, is guided only for himself, and whosoever strayeth, strayeth only against himself; and am not over you a trustee.
Dr. Mohsin : Say: "O you mankind! Now truth (i.e. the Qur'ân and Prophet Muhammad SAW), has come to you from your Lord. So whosoever receives guidance, he does so for the good of his own self, and whosoever goes astray, he does so to his own loss, and I am not (set) over you as a Wakîl (disposer of affairs to oblige you for guidance)."
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Say, “O people, the truth has come to you from your Lord. So, whoever accepts guidance accepts it to his own benefit, and whoever goes astray does so to his own detriment. And I am not responsible for you.”
Pickthal : Say: O mankind! Now hath the Truth from your Lord come unto you. So whosoever is guided, is guided only for (the good of) his soul, and whosoever erreth erreth only against it. And I am not a warder over you.
Yusuf Ali : Say: "O ye men! now Truth hath reached you from your Lord! Those who receive guidance, do so for the good of their own souls; those who stray, do so to their own loss: and I am not (set) over you to arrange your affairs."

Verse:109
Abdul Daryabadi : And follow thou whatsoever is revealed unto thee, and endure until Allah judgeth, and He is the Best of judges.
Dr. Mohsin : And (O Muhammad SAW), follow the revelation sent unto you, and be patient till Allâh gives judgement. And He is the Best of judges.
Mufti Taqi Usmani : Follow what is being revealed to you, and be patient until Allah gives His judgment, and He is the best of all judges.
Pickthal : And (O Muhammad) follow that which is inspired in thee, and forbear until Allah give judgment. And He is the Best of Judges.
Yusuf Ali : Follow thou the inspiration sent unto thee, and be patient and constant, till Allah doth decide: for He is the Best to decide.
